I loved Super Ghouls'N'Ghosts but it drove me nuts. It is one game I wish was just a bit easier.
I second the notion that The Adventures of Batman and Robin is extremely tough. The enemies are always on you like white on rice. The health power-ups only restore a sliver of heath per item. Without full charge on your weapon, the enemies take several hits to take down with a half a dozen on-screen at any given time. With max continues I'm only able to get to the first boss so far before I'm wiped out. Another one I find to be pretty tough is Contra Hard Corps with it's one hit you're dead with bullets flying everywhere gameplay. I'll have to get the Japanese version with it's health bar. I still love both games btw but their difficulty had to be mentioned. :)
Maybe it's just because it sucked, but I found Blaster Master 2 to be extremely difficult.
No mention of the horrendous Shaq-Fu?
When I was younger, I found Tailspin for Genesis literally impossible. I don't think I ever made it past the first stage.
Super Street Fighter II Turbo US arcade version.
Holy fuckballs is the only way to describe it.
Action 52.
Actually I beat Fantasia about two weeks ago. The last level really sucks -- very difficult with a lot of stupid enemies. It's the worst level of the game. And it's real ugly.
Then once the game is beaten, there is nothing but a silhouette of Mickey shaking hands with the conductor! What a disappointment!
I have enjoyed the game, but it requires accepting the horrible controls, cheap hits, and frequent deaths... Any "enjoyment" is bittersweet at best!
Lol, I think you're right -- Blaster Master 2 is difficult because it is so awful to play.
For me, it is the overhead segments that really deter me from playing this game. They are the most awful parts of the game. Without them, I would probably just play through the damn game and be done with it.
To be honest I'm of the mind these days that Hard Corps isn't actually that hard a game, as soon as I started taking it seriously and learnt how to use the skid, different weapons for the right situation and the mode change I found that I was breezing through much of the game. That Batman and Robin game though, that still gives me some difficulty :(
I think I'm really going to have to check out Blaster Master 2 properly soon, I always heard it was bad but after getting hold of a bunch of old magazines I've found it seemed to get pretty good reviews, nothing amazing but around 80%, the other game with a similar problem is Sword of Vermilion, which many mags actually really like.
Hmm, well my disdain for Blaster Master 2 is related to my love for the original Blaster Master (on NES), which I grew up with. (And which took me so many years to get through!)
Blaster Master 2 is a horrible sequel... But if some one were not familiar with the original game, he or she might not dislike BM2 with the same intensity.
BM2 might seem less awful to some one who is unfamiliar with the epic original game.
EDIT
...oops only Sega material :D...I wrote Silver Surfer...but that's OT
