I just finished Castlevania: Symphony of the Night again a few minutes ago ("bad ending" but I'm not done), and wow, I did not remember the music that plays as the credits roll: (very) soft pop with intermittent vocal duets. What in the hell. Utterly inappropriate.
Let me know your experiences with game music that doesn't quite seem to fit the game.
As I recall, if you put the original PSX disc in your CD player, Alucard's voice warns you not to flip the disc over (or something like that), but laments that you're not going to listen, are you?
His reverse-psychology instructions lead you to a hidden track: that song.
And I agree, it's a lame song.
PSX and Saturn Dooms have highly inapproporiate music.... bah, every FPS these days have no meaningful music, only some ambient crap instead of fast catchy highly melodic stuff that I love :)
What's funny is I've seen more people rant about how great the PSX Doom music is than complain about it. Personally, I like the PSX Doom music. I like that ambient crap. :DQuote:

I kinda dig the music of PSX Doom, standing on its own it's a pretty solid musical effort that exudes a lot of mood. The original music is still better though. But the biggest problem of PSX Doom's music is that's we're talking about frickin' DOOM. You don't change the music to that, that's sacrilege!
Shining Force II is guilty of this.

If every Game Over screen had such enthusiasm for losing, I would so not care about dying in video games whatsoever. :D
Most of the ambient stuff for PS1 and Saturn Doom sounded alright, but it didn't fit with the action too well. You're running around, gunning down demons by the dozen, and you're hearing very echo-laden instrument noises. Seemed like it belonged more in a Metroid-ish exploration game than an action-heavy FPS. Maybe they were going for a "music that's the opposite of what's happening" feel (like the well done Gears of War commercial with "Mad World")?
The title song was quite cool though.

Doom's ambient soundtrack was interesting, and would have worked if the game had played like Quake (which also had an ambient soundtrack), but not for high intensity running and gunning.

HALO's song or cult song that I call it, jeez the title screen makes it seem so interesting yet the games lack of story doesnt back it up. Just like HALO 3 which i still need to play through but my point is the Title screen has the music playing and the dark blue ground with the winding lifeless road as the covenant ships fly out in the distance...Then you start the game and in you are in a nice green tropical jungle..

It's a terrible game, with a dire soundtrack to match.

Lol, that wheel of fortune game brings back memories from when I would play the Wheel of Fortune 2 game for PC that I have.
I used to hate the intro song in soul blade for the ps1. But as the years went on it grew on me. But when i first heard it i was thinking what the hell is this, this isn't fighting game music.

Well if you think about it, there's no good reason for the phrase "Game Over" to have negative connotations. The phrase just took on a negative connotation because it was used as a synonym for "you lose" before games had actual ends to them (which was the only choice besides a death screen, and even in those you still die, lol). In Daytona USA, they are just telling you your race is over and chose to say "Game Over" instead of "You Lose" or "The End" (depending on how you placed). Game Over literally just means that particular game is terminated, it has no inherent implication of losing or failing in the syntax.Quote:

R-Type Complete takes a game with great music and replaces it with lame music and crappy(?) cinemas. I haven't played it since I first tried it years ago because of how much the music turned me off.
