I didn't really take it as an insult, I do sound a bit like I'm mumbling, lol.

Thinking about it a bit more, I think it's more to do with the directionality of the mike then mumbling. I noticed you move around a lot while doing your review, and maybe the mike isn't picking up your voice as well when your head turns slightly. That makes it seem like mumbling when it isn't.
I guess I'm safe. I've got the original Konami release.
Well, I guess the GENMobile made me change my mind. It sounds wrong like the RetroGEN, but the built-in games are TONS better, even though the screen is smaller(not like I care anyways; if the screen is small and sharp, that's good enough for me). I just might skip on the RetroGEN and get the GENMobile.
QUESTION to Beastech and Nathanallan (and maybe TMEE):
My own camera's USB cable (which I never use anymore) seems to also work. And so does the charger for my Motorola Razor. However, I know that these phone chargers aren't exactly interchangeable. And, plugging the Retrogen to the Razor's charging cable yields an automatic green (charged) light--which scares me as it may mean too much power (which would be weird, considering the sheer size of the Retrogen versus most cell phones out there...
What are the specs on these cell-phone charging cables? Is it alright to use any of them without eventually damaging the hardware?
I wonder what's going to be better the Gencore or the Firecore.
Probably wouldn't make a difference. At least, I don't think it will. If the GENCore doesn't improve upon the FireCore, I'll just take whichever I'll come across first. However, I don't think the games built into the GENCore are the same as those on the FireCore. Can someone remind me what the list of built-in games on the GENCore is?
As a side note, did anyone notice "Sega MegaDrive" written on the game selection screen on the GENMobile?
question to Beastech Is the Firecore Cartridge coming out for the sega genesis firecore system or the retrogen handheld or both. will you able to download the roms or homebrew games on the firecore cartridge:p
johj1987: From what I have seen, the cart will work on both systems, but it remains to be seen exactly what it's going to do. The official word is that you will be able to buy custom built games and download them to the carts, but there is no word as to if you can simply load roms and run it like a flash cart.
The USB port is putting out 5vdc at very low milliamps, and the charger that turned it green is theoretically putting out more power. In short, it probably won't hurt it, but I wouldn't use it since it was designed for the USB coming from a PC. Just a volts/amps difference (not by very much at all), sounds like, but better safe than sorry.
The LED changes color because the power getting through a LOW battery is LESS when it gets to the LED, and MORE when the battery is charged (more returning, and going through the LED).
More comparison and research is needed to figure out what chargers will and won't work. Something I will concentrate on when I get my GenMobile and RetroGen.
^Thanks for the answer. I'll wait then. Better safe than sorry. (Main reason for this question: I'm headding over to Tampa tomorrow and don't want to have to carry my laptop with me. Looks like I'll have to anyways).
not a double reply, more info. That's how a color changing LED works. Red for less power being returned from a charging battery, more from a battery that is no longer taking more of a charge and returning more power back to the source (usb port).
Firecore SD cart will work in all AtGames models that have a cartridge port.
Retrogen
Firecore
GEN Mobile
GEN Core
I used a motorola charger to charge my Retrogen with no trouble, but that doesn't mean that it won't hurt it in the long run.
Err - for those on the board who aren't electrical engineers - power supplies don't PUSH current into a device. A 5V 500 mA supply can be replaced by a 5V 10,000A with no danger to the device. The device PULLS what current it needs from the supply, up to a maximum. If more current can be SOURCED by the supply, it won't be used. If it pulls 300 mA from a 500 mA supply, it will pull 300 mA from a 10,000A supply. The problem is when the supply cannot supply ENOUGH current, not too much. Say that 300 mA device is hooked to a supply that can only source 200 mA. Because the supply cannot source enough current, the regulator in the supply won't be able to hold the output voltage constant. Instead of 5V at 200 mA, it may do something like drop to 3V at 270 mA. The device the supply is hooked to may or may not be able to run on the lowered voltage/current.
By the way, the majority of USB ports today are all 3.3V instead of 5V.
True. I'm not an engineer but batteries and power is a pet subject of mine.
From what QuickSciFi has said, it's getting past the regulation of the device. Better to not chance it with a low-end device (I have to admit the handhelds aren't the best). The regulation may not work very well, pass more power than is necessary.
Thanks for the tip on the 3.3v on USB, I'll remember that.
Yeah USB devices can run from 3.3V to 5.25V and 500ma IIRC. Some devices only use low power mode or 3.3V to 4.xx and 100a while others can draw 5V (up to 5.25 is the spec) and 500ma. Might be 1A can't remember either. But either way I think all devices on USB that can run at 3.3V have to be built to handle 5V anyway and therefore most if not all USB chargers output 5V. I don't think anything would ever get damaged from 5V. Basically if it plugs in a USB port... plug it in and don't worry!
I'm guessing the GenMobiles and Gencores are in....right?
Nope, got an update from Hyperkin last night. They will be coming out of customs are arriving at Hyperkin on either 10/19 or 10/20. Then they will be shipped out to me that same day. I was just about to update the online store!
Yes, they will be the exact same on the inside.
I'm interested in getting the GenMobile or Retrogen, but I live in the UK and wondered if one was better than the other taking into account the PAL system for TV Out and different voltage if one or both need charging by mains.
Which would be best for me?
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that most modern European TVs will support both NTSC and PAL video signals, so you shouldn't have to worry about that.
Little question about charging the RetroGEN and GENMobile: I have a power supply that came with my Energizer rechargeable AAA batteries so the USB charger the batteries came with can be plugged into the wall. Would it be safe to use those kinds of power supplies to charge the GENMobile and RetroGEN?
Atgames systems are rated at 5V DC 1A.....So anything between that range will be ok....

Check out my blogspot. I wrote an article on it.

Also, I brought it to work today. It's in my car. Going to go out there and play a little Sonic Spinball when I get bored of arguing with the peanut gallery.
So is the genmobile supposed to be better than the retrogen? I'm actually in the market for a PSP GO. I'm going to a Sony store to check it out and if I dont like the feel of it, I am going to "fall back" on either the retrogen or the gen mobile.....

The last five minutes are so are all about the GEN Mobile. Check it out!

The PSP GO is the biggest video game fuck up of the past decade.
'Why' would anybody want to pay $250 for "Digital Distribution Only" with no access to the established library of a 5 year old platform?
It isn't backward compatible with it's own AV cables, power chargers, memory card standard, or UMD library. It only uses a proprietary USB cable for no explained reason. It doesn't even have 802.11g support, it's only 802.11b!

Knuckle Duster, you sir will be quoted. I agree.
I can see the advantage of removing UMD compatibility, reliability problems are big (even for working units there are disc reading/scipping problems), not to mention cost of the drive. The thig I don't like with the Go is the redesigned layout and slideing mechanism (seems uncomfortable, not to mention making it more vulnerable to breaking)
So I'd say, if you're interested in PSP downloadables, go for an older model with broken UMD drive for cheap. (plus there's the use for emulation)
Hey, has anyone tested how the Retrogen handels Sonic 2's interlaced split-screen mode, particularly the LCD screen? (did the original Nomad have any problem with this?)
1) That guy even seems more clueless than the innex/retrogen gujy (How long does it take to charge? "i dunno")
2) Also I JUST noticed this about the genmobile, why on earth is the C and Z buttons bigger then the rest? theres no reason for that! also I thought on the retrogen the start button is pretty close to the main buttons, well the genmobile it looks even closer (as well as the rest button to the dpad) I dunno have the C and Z buttons bigger than the rest would kinda annoy me.
I'm happy I got the retrogen.
