NBA Jam TE does not work
I only have 95 out of the NBA Live series, and it works just fine. I got all the way into a game with no problems.
World Series 95 goes to black screen when starting a game.
No trouble pulling off special moves in MK3. Don't have a copy of Ultimate right now. I even tried shooting ice with Sub-Zero. No problem at all.
Virtua Racing only works on original systems and the GEN-X clone. This is no exception.
WWF Royal Rumble - X,Y,Z do not work

Not yet, but it should be identical to the Firecore with the exception of looking like Sonic's head.

It is about the same size and weight.
Sound is the same, battery life is AMAZING. They weren't kidding about that 11 hours. If any of you looked at the webcam the night before the Georgia Genesis Cup we had it on display, just running on its internal battery all night long. When I got back to the store in the morning it was still running with no trouble at all.
How are the buttons, are they cheap and plasticy, or better yet, stiff & loose? Is there no 'in between' with the rubber pads? (Like Gamecube buttons)
Or are they good like a traditional controller? (Playstation/Xbox/SNES)
How's the D pad? Cheap knock-off or legitimately good?
Ah, well Im happy I got the retrogen, since genmobile had some of the same issues (sad that nba jam te and world series 95 doesnt work on either of them, 2 good games! but luckily I have the previous world series from 94 and NBA JAM and Hangtime)
I think regular NBA Jam is better anyway since you can break the glass.
It does, but only on the Gen-X and GN Twin. All the rest will not play Virtua Racing(FC3 Plus, RetroGEN, FireCore(and its older, less compatible European and Asian counterparts), GENCore, GENMobile). I do, however, believe that some Genesis 3 pirate clones actually do work with (almost) everything the Genesis 3 and most clones don't(Virtua Racing, Power Base Converter, not sure about the 32X).Quote:

To my knowledge though, not even the Genesis 3 or Majesco made Genesis 2's even count towards the Mega Drive's final sales number (29 million)

First time poster, here. I was about to pick up a retrogen today, but decided to wait to see if maybe the genmobile was a better choice. So my thinking is this:
Retrogen pro:
bigger screen
Genmobile pro:
built-in Sega games
longer battery life
And that's all that's been confirmed? Potential cons:
1) According to Beastech they both have crappy sound?
2) Which has the better D-pad?
3) most-likely the same incompatibility issues with certain games? (virtua racing, NBA Jam TE, Super Street Fighter 2 don't seem to work)
4) do both lack the mode button? Has anyone tried games that need mode like Golden Axe 2, Exile, Ms Pacman or Aliens 3?
5) has anyone tried later JPN Mega Drive games that had region lock-out like Sonic 3, Pulse Man, Yu Yu Hakusho (4-way fighter)?
I guess I'm most concerned about the D-pad, and the ability to play Japanese MD games as I still have quite a few. Thanks for any help and comments.
uploading the video FINALLY. I had tested a lot more games but damn Windows Movie Maker keeps screwing up when I try to do any editing. So I finally gave up and just stuck together the rest so I'd have something to show you guys. When its done I'll give you the word.

The GEN Mobile has the best D-pad hands down between the 2 portables.

I was kinda chopping at the bit to get a retrogen just because it's already available, but I guess the genmobile is the one to wait for.
The screen looks really glossy in the video Beastech, is glare and reflection an issue when playing?
Glare/reflection is a non-issue.
The screen is very bright, and that is partly why it came out so blurry in the video. The other is the fact that if I pull the system too far back so that it isn't as blurry you can't see whats going on at all. The screen is great though. Smaller, but it is on the level of the mega drive portable and if you look at video reviews of that floating around you will notice all of them say that the screen is awesome. The ONLY thing that the Retrogen really has over the GEN Mobile is screen size.
You can read text, and everything is very clear on the GEN Mobile.
Awesome vid. Love the color in blue. D-pad looks awesome. But two things (one, technically) really makes it worth the while for me: Genesis Logo + Built-in Genny titles (The fact that it's licensed, that's what). How awesome is that. I love my Retrogen, but this is indeed one sexy beast (I mean the GenMobile ;)). I must have one!:D
That's a mighty nice portable, I must say.
The more I see these new clones, the more I set my absolute hatred for AtGames aside. I'm starting to think: f*** the sound problems, I just have to get this.
Sorry if I missed this somewhere, but can anyone confirm if either (or both) the retrogen or genmobile can play region locked Mega Drive games like Sonic 3, Pulseman, Yu Yu Hakusho, World of Illusion, etc.?
Is the Genesis logo on the GenMobile just a sticker?
It's the number one reason to acquire these units, in fact. They have a region switch (although a vast number of titles won't be region locked, so they will play no matter where you have that switch locked on to).Quote:

sadly I noticed on my retrogen, that there is 1 very miniscule dead pixel (well its black) or a super tiny piece of dirt on the screen.
But when i am actually playing the games and stuff its not noticeable, just when the screen is still and I actually look for it.

To Beast, or anyone with the Gen Mobile......i have 3 questions...
1. Due to the ipod and psp, I have a paranoia of scratches on my systems.....How scratch resistant is the Gen Mobiles screen? If you so much as look at a PSP or ipod wrong, it will scratch.....Is this pretty resilient to scratches if you keep it in a cloth case?
2. Does the genesis logo sticker look cheap and does it seem like it will peel off over time?
3. How do Phantasy Star 3 and 4 play as far as reading text, glitches, and sound?
So... It just occurred to me. The screen size on the GenMobile may just've been a gimmick from Sega of America (a demand of some kind) so that the Genesis logo could be placed on the top. It's far fetched, I know, but I still have trouble figuring out why the Retrogen is not Licensed, when in fact the two are nearly the same, technologically.
So far, I'm liking the screen size of the Retrogen more, but it seems that overall, there is a greater number of features to go with the Gen Mobile (Screen size aside):
1. Genesis Logo (Sticker).
2. Officially Licensed by Sega.
3. D-Pad is far more functional than that of the retrogen.
4. With a larger C Button, you can jump a little higher (ok, just kidding).
5. The Speaker is placed above the D-Pad (not below, like the Retrogen); which makes it far more functional, since I seem to be continuously blocking it on the Retrogen with my thumb. It's a small problem, but certainly solved with the Gen Mobile.
6. 20 built-in Official Genesis titles.
7. It comes in two colors; which means that there are currently at least two variations of the same product (BLUE seems pretty awesome).

Unfortunately no, it still hasn't shipped from the vendor yet. Shouldn't be too much longer though, I'll give them a call tomorrow.
