You're going to have to back that up with your own ogg - the ogg I posted sounds like stereo on my computer, and sounds better than any Genesis/CD I've ever heard.

I voted for model 2, only because model one can sometimes eject disc that is still spinning and could scratch the game up. Model 2 should only be paired with Genny MD2
While I'm far from an expert on the console (I only got my first Mega-CD today, would you believe!), I prefer the Model 1 Mega-CD in pretty much all respects. Today is actually the first time I've ever seen a Model 1 in the flesh. My mate Dave used to have the Model 2 Mega Drive and Mega-CD. It was cool and all, but the whole thing seemed kinda flimsy. A Model 2 MD and MCD is awfully long and thin. You could probably snap it over your knee like a plank of wood. I've noticed that some people here have said the Model 2 was the more reliable machine, I wouldn't know. It's been years since I played a Model 2, so I'll take your word for it, and see how my Model 1 goes.
I do think the Model 1 put together with it's Mega Drive looks quite a bit better than the Model 2.

It's not like the Model 1 is 'beautiful' or anything, but put together it has a sort of "80's coolness" about it, if you know what I mean? I prefer the front-loading tray and the cool blinking 'READY' and 'ACCESS' lights, too. How do the saves work on Mega-CD? Is it battery-backed RAM? If so, I may change the battery before I start on any RPGs or whatever.
But yeah - Model 1 gets my vote.
Model 1 all the way. The system rocks! I've had no problems with mine at all. Well, other than when it gets dirty from dust, which doesn't happen often.
It's too bad the Model 1 is so unreliable. Mine just went on me today.
I voted for the Model 1, simply because out of the 3 SCDs I own (one Model 1 and two Model 2s,), my Model 1 has outlasted both of my Model 2s, kinda odd considering that the Model 1 SCDs are supposed to be weaker...
I think the main weakness in the M1's is th etray loading mechanism, the rest of the drive (laser assembly especially -which seems to be the killer for M2's) could be more reliable. (ribbon cables on the M1 aslo seem to give people trouble, that's mine's main problem, shouldn't be too hard to replace though -if cleaning/polishing contacts doesn't work)
Otherwise there's the fuse which is fairly easy to replace, but I think that's common to both models.
My first Sega CD unit was a model 2 with a model 1 Genesis attached to it so I'll have vote for the "model 2 Sega CD." Although I would like to get a model 1 CD unit to match my model 1 genesis.
Battery fo'sho. =D
I don't believe they had the technology (that was cheap enough) to save games semi-permanently any other way (unless you wanted to use floppies A LA Famicom Disk System).
Also, where is that battery located on the Model 1? I'd like to replace mine with a removable button cell socket (it is a button cell right?). I heard that for the longest time no one knew where the battery was located. Was this found out?
