I don't even own a Wii, but The Conduit is out, and just wanting general impressions etc from anyone who's played it. Some IGN reviewer said that in all ways but one it's nothing special, but that it can be so highly optimized that it can control better than any other console FPS (or something like that): true, false, maybe? Is it fun? Repetitive?
Let's have it (please!). :D
The only "real" Wii game I've played was Zelda and it pissed me off so much that it ended my Wii playing days.
I want to want this game, but it just doesn't seem to offer anything that makes it any different from all the other FPSs released over the past two generations.
It obviously has a huge multiplayer focus, which is great (the Wii could certainly use its own "Halo") and it even supports WiiSpeak. But friend codes are going to kill this thing. What good does it do a game that offers 12-party multiplayer if you're required to actually KNOW that many people with a copy of the game to get a good match going?
Regardless of the hype this game has received, I just don't see it selling enough copies to really offer a legitimate online experience.
I have the Conduit... Played it for the first time this morning! It really kicks ass! This is how FPS were meant to be played!! Graphics are like really good regular XBOX! Which is amazing for the Wii. You walk up to the walls, nice detailed graphic. Plays smooth. Online multiplayer is fast and no lag! When I get to the house I'll post my Friend Code for anyone who wants to play! And you can play with anyone randomly online. You don't have to know a friend code. Just like Mario Kart Wii.. If you want to play with your FRIENDS you have to know the Code. Otherwise you can play with strangers around the world all night long! Only thing lacking is, I wish you could add people that you play against as friends.
You can completely customize the controls, but for a Southpaw (Lefty) like myself, it doesn't help. The guy you play on screen is always right handed, but at least it's not as bad as Red Steel where you 2 different weapons in each hand, cause then it really made things confusing. I want to shoot with my dominate hand, but when Red Steel put the Sword in the other hand, it was all backwards! Conduit doesn't has that problem. Nunchuck swing throws a grenade. So nothing that makes it weird for Lefty's like myself...
I wish this game was coming out for PC. :(
I wouldn't bother with this game its a crappy Halo clone with motion controls thats it.
Why is HALO the "standard" now??? HALO is a crappy Quake 2 clone with shitty music! Quake 2 is a crappy Quake 1 clone with shitty enemys. Quake 1 is a crappy Doom clone with shitty 3d models. Doom is a crappy Wolf 3d clone with shitty controls... and on and on... hehe...Quote:

I know there is alot of hype for Conduit.. But it really is good. Quake 1 homebrew for the Wii is just amazing... Alot better than using a mouse. After you get use to moving around, the accuracy of aiming is amazing... And Conduit just takes that to the next level. The story is actually pretty impressive and the multiplayer is a ton of fun, lots of options. And maybe I hate HALO cause I suck at it... but who cares! But don't dog other games just because your a HALO LOVER!

You know what I really like about Conduit?? It's not all this weird worlds and big terrain... Yeah there are aliens... But you fight in city streets and airport terminals... It's like Max Payne meets Quake 3.... So it's a Max Payne/Quake 3 Clone... HEHE...
I agree, Halo shouldn't a standard for anything other than how NOT to make an FPS. That game is so overrated it makes my head spin but in the defence of FPS....there are a few that rise to the top in terms of gameplay and storyline.

Those games not only set the standard for FPS but put some new twists into the formula to make them memorable.
Every since the release of Halo 3, people should stop comparing games to the Halo series (Halo 3 was such a let down and the other two are just sooo old now). But "HALO is a crappy Quake 2 clone with shitty music!"? Come now, Halo series had great music.
Also, people who still play Quake 1/2 and Doom 1/2 regularly need to taken out back and shot/put out of there misery. It's the only humane thing to do ;)
Conduit looks cool. To bad I don't have a Wii.

I'll only defend the original Halo, which was an amazing game. Part 2 was horrible, and the third failed to deliver on everything but multi-player. The original game had a great story, awesome visuals, and an AMAZING soundtrack (I own it). I think most people tend to compare FPS games to it because it was the first high profile game in the genre in recent memory that wasn't all about multi-player. With all the Quakes and such that were out at the time, finding an FPS that was an entirely single-player affair wasn't an easy thing.Quote:

Metacritic has The Conduit at 79, which is a pretty good sign. Looks like it's definitely a multiplayer-focused game, though, which is strange considering how apparently nobody wants to play games online on a Nintendo console.

I didn't have an Xbox (or own Goldeney for that matter), but spent tons of time playing both at freinds houses, in particular we played through the entire co-op mode of Halo on the second highes difficulty.

If that were true i'd have already bought House of the Dead: Overkill and Madworld.
Unlike most people on this forum, I'm a big fan of the Wii. Some of my favorite games of this generation are on the system: Super Mario Galaxy, Metroid Prime 3, Boom Blox Bash Party, Geometry Wars Galaxy, etc.. But The Conduit just doesn't do it for me. I hope I'm wrong, but the game just looks so... generic. I'm impressed with the visuals, the online focus, and the level of customizable controls, but I can't get over the tired setting.
One thing that some might find a little funny is that I wish the game were MORE like Halo. Yeah, the original Halo was became incredibly repetitive after the first few stages, and the game was basically worthless besides multiplayer. But do you remember those first few stages? Being in an alien environment (the Halo) was just incredible for its time. Though the game was actually pretty linear, it didn't feel that way. The Conduit features environments we've all seen so many times that exploration doesn't seem that tempting. An airport? Library? Meh.
I will rent it though. From what I've read, the game has a distinct Goldeneye/Perfect Dark feel, and if that's true, I can't see completely passing on it.

I'm not exactly a huge FPS fan. Even though I hate dual analog control (ala Halo, CoD etc), I love the Wii's controller and how it handles. I'll give some thought on the Conduit, because it seems pretty good from what I've heard.
Friend codes don't really bother me.

Damn . . . you have to admit, this game looks amazing. It's one of the few Wii games where you can look at it and think "Yep . . . that's a definite improvement over the GameCube."
Wal-Mart was having a sale on new releases a few weeks back. My wife offered to buy me this game . . . or claimed that she did; I couldn't tell. I wish she would have come right out and asked me if I wanted The Conduit for $25.

I spent my entire 1hr playtime wishing I could just play it using the classic controller. Then I went back to Ghostbusters on the 360. :cool:
I'm pretty sure that all controls are modifiable, including the melee attack.
EDIT: Just cruised over to blockbuster, and they do NOT have The Conduit. Really disappointing. Maybe in a week?
Does it support the GameCube controller? (or even classic controller?)
