Picked up a few games from eBay in a mixed auction and quite a few of the MD games simply refuse to load past the original Sega Enterprises screen at turn on. Screen goes black and nothing else happens.
Have done the usual, cleaned all the pins and given each cart a shake but nothing is loose. Rather than bin them I was hoping there might be something else I could do?
If you've got a Game Genie or any other cartridge slot expander, try running the game through that, it may just be your machine being picky.
Try pushing the game all the way down into the cartridge slot, and then pull it back up ever so slightly (a bit like what people do with NES games... you know, wiggle it). It's worked for me in the past when a game just didn't want to run. Just be sure the system is off each time you adjust it in the slot.
No amount of wriggling is making them work :( I tried them with a Game Genie but its the same problem. The Sega Enterprises screen comes up then it goes black.
Clean the cartridge contacts with a Q-tip and some rubbing alcohol. Apply the rubbing alcohol to the Q-tip and swab both sides. Clean until the Q-tips come out without dirt.
That should do the trick.
My local game store uses Windex which fixed my Earthworm Jim cartridge (yet, I'm not sure it was Windex exactly.)Quote:

If all else fails you can use a really fine grit piece of sandpaper to clean the contacts. I've revived about 4 games using this method but the contacts had really bad signs of oxidization.

I have seen some really beat-up genesis carts in my day: Not one of them has ever failed. These cartridges in question on this thread must really have been purposedly mistreated, otherwise they would not cause this much trouble. I think just about the only thing past getting hammered down to pieces, complete water immersion seems to be the real cause.

Open the carts and tell us the condition from the inside.
Here is a quick answer to your possible problem...It seems that some carts, specially Genesis/Megadrive cartridges, experience and develop bit-rot, which is why the system refuses to read the rom after the TMSS....I have 2 carts like that (to make matters worst for me, both are the MJ Moonwalker game)....Unfortunately, there is no known way to fix this issue.....
