Freeze at what point? A guide I've read claims that you should be able to view the whole introduction and at least make it to the character selection screen when running SoR 2 in JP mode.
BK2 will freeze at the title screen, or I can get a bit into Level 1 before it freezes.
And yes BK2 will show up as "Streets of Rage 2", but that is really the only change.
There were a lot more changes than just that. Can't really be bothered to list them all, Google it.
Huh? How would the SOR3 cart help you to run BNIII? Perhaps I've misunderstood you. Anyway, both games are region-coded to an extent. I have Bare Knuckle III for my modified Mega Drive..

That's obviously a photo of my modified Super Famicom, but the Mega Drive is sneaking into frame, and it's actually the best picture I have of the switches on my MD. They are both simple toggle switches. The one of the left is the language/region switch (Japanese - English), the other is the 50/60Hz switch. So anyways, configuring my MD in all three ways, these were my findings in trying to boot Bare Knuckle III.
- NTSC-J Obviously works fine. The intended region.
- NTSC-U Does not work, and brings up a "DEVELOPED ONLY FOR USE WITH NTSC MEGA DRIVE AND PAL AND FRENCH SECAM MEGA DRIVE SYSTEMS." screen, in the Bare Knuckle III font.
- PAL Works, but as it's an NTSC game (therefore with no PAL optimisation), it runs 17% slower. Not recommended at all, but it works at least.
So it does work on PAL machines, but you will at least need to widen the cartridge slot. It's physical shape won't allow it to fit into a Genesis or PAL Mega Drive. Here's a pic of the cart slot on mine..

Mercifully, the dust flaps extend underneath the tabs, so your console will still be OK without a cart in it.
What mods do you have on your MD? Again - how would the SOR3 cart help you at all?
SOR2 in Jap mode = fully working game.
BKII in English mode (60hz) = very picky, it will give a "THIS GAME IS NOT MADE FOR THIS REGION" blabla thing if you switch too early,
I however switched during the Japanese intro text and then the game froze till i pressed start.
that got me the SOR2 screen, after that i played all the way through level 1 without it freezing on me,
then i walked a bit into the bridge level (level 2) and it just kept going.
so other then BKII being picky of the region it works perfectly fine ingame.
BKIII and SOR3 are completely different games though, (data wise i mean)
Sega of America just changed way too much, if they had just stuck to translating and a new title screen then it could have been switchable,
but now its just censored and changed to hell.
I missed this, sorry. I have SOR1 on a 6-in-1 cart, and when I boot the game with my console set to Japanese, it becomes Bare Knuckle, like you said. I don't actually have SOR2 for my current MD (had it back in the day), and wondered if the same would be true. There are a couple changes to SOR2, you know. Very minor, but Skate is called Sammy, Max's surname changes from Thunder to Hatchet, and when you meet Mr. X at the end, he's smoking a cigar.

Another weird change was that in Bare Knuckle II, when Blaze does her flying jump kick, you can see her panties. These are covered up in the American version. Bizarrely, the cheeky up-skirt panty-view is intact on the PAL version (not the cigar, though). Play through your SOR2 cart with everything set to Japanese to see if the panties and the cigar are present, and not just a title screen change. I guess check Skate and Max's names to see if they have reverted back to BKII status.
I now understand your question regarding your SOR3 cart. I reckon too much was changed for the BKIII data to still be present and complete.
Not that bizar if you reckon that in Europe people usually aren't offended much by (partial) nudity/sexuality as was always the case with you Americans ;). Violence on the other hand....
Same with movies: in Hollywoods ones female characters after a hot portion of you-know-what tend to go and sit-up in bed covering up their boobs.
They lay in bed either covering up their breasts with a sheet or still wearing their bra.
Neither of which actually makes sense. No woman is going to leave their bra on while having sex and I know damn well no woman wants to leave a bra on overnight. But I've always chalked this movie cliche to be less of "OMG Americans are prudes!" and more of so-and-so actress just doesn't wanna show the goods.
Bizarrely...Keira Knightly will show the goods (what little there is) but not her ass. (???)
Charlize Theron has bared all, and I decided that was beyond jawusum.
Charlize Theron =
This was courtesy of the BBFC of that era being utterly dumb. Apparently there had been a few crimes involving nunchucks, so the BBFC (or rather James Ferman) decided that they were evil and banned all sight of them until they realised their stupidity in the late '90s (and Andreas Whittam Smith replaced Ferman at the BBFC). This was typical of the BBFC under Ferman, a situation not helped by his opinion that the cuts actually improved films.
So headbutts were evil too?
Ah, now headbutts are different. The BBFC reckoned that they are easily imitable, so children must be protected from them at all costs. Of course this was complete balls as it is easier to punch someone, and punching someone doesn't hurt yourself nearly as much. Come to think of it, they only seemed to be bothered about children hurting themselves, not others.
Anyway in recent years they have become much more sensible, but they can still be woefully inconsistant.
