Genesis and SNES, which had better version of a game?

Okay, hopefully I don't get many fanboys and just loyal wanting the best version of a game to get. I know even though this is a SEGA forum which I can understand it somewhat, but this discussion is about which version of the same game was better on each system and why. The reason I ask this is cause I am still collecting for each system and wonder which version might be the better buy?

Some examples:

Genesis__SNES
NBA Jam = NBA Jam
Zombie Ate My Neighbors < ZAMN
TMNT Hyperstone Heist < TMNT IV: Turtles in Time
Aladdin > Aladdin
Robocop Vs. Terminator > Robocop vs. Terminator (blood and faster, and hard)
Sparkster < Sparkster (find that SNES version is more fun to play but not tied in with Rocket Knights Adventure)

A few I'm wondering about:
NBA Jam T.E.
Adventures of batman and robin
Battletoads and Double Dragon

Again, this isn't a bash on the system, just who had the better game. Thanks all and look forward to your participation.

I disagree with Zombies Ate My Neighbors. I definitely prefer the Genesis version.

Some of those, like Aladdin and Sparkster, shouldn't really count, because they're really just two different games that happen to have the same title.

"Turtles in Time" would have been my suggestion.

I prefer NBA Jam on the SNES. The Genesis version has slightly static sounding commentary, and the commentary is a major part of NBA Jam's appeal. I just noticed that I can't find a SNES version that has music playing during the matchup. I guess the Genesis version might have one advantage over the SNES game.

I find Earthworm Jim 2 better on SNES, the main reason being the weapon select. (as far as I know, you can't switch weapons in the Genesis version for whatever reason, they put a combo in for the Manta Shield, but no weapon cycling???) Then there's the lack of dithering and false transparency effects the Genesis version uses frequently, granted the Playstation/PC versions are free of this as well. (the saturn version has the transparency issues too, and they completely changed the backgrounds for some reason)

Other than that, I think there may be some other features that may not be in any other versions, little things but still notable, like the accordion at the begining, all other version's I've seen just have a single not being played, but the SNES has a simple tune being played instead. Also, not sure on all the others, but there's an easter egg with the cows at the intermission (the "well done" announcing one), in the SNES version, pressing different buttons (a,b,x, or y) plays the voice clip at different speeds/pitches.

One thing the Genesis (and most other versions I think) do have over the SNES version is the number of voice samples/sfx (there's no "killer!" in the SNES version for example), but this is common to many SNES games given the greater amount of sample data needed (for music and all sfx, which the Genesis can suplement with PSG and FM), the music is great in both the SNES and Genesis, and I like some of the arranged CDDA tracks as well. (I don't think I like it in one of the ports though, possibly the PSX one)

Some others:

Battletoads Double Dragon - Genesis
In the SNES version, the enemies are extremely aggressive. The game's hard enough as it is.

Earthworm Jim - Genesis
The SNES version is missing a level. Supposedly this was because the code takes up more "space" on SNES, and so it had to have one fewer level in order to fit on the same size cart. Note, however, that the Sega CD version is superior to both.

Desert Strike - Genesis
The SNES one is pretty sluggish.

Flashback - Genesis
The cutscenes are a lot choppier in the SNES version, and I prefer the sound of the Genesis version.

Liberty or Death - SNES
The Genesis version looks and especially sounds pretty bad. Not sure what happened here.

Soldiers of Fortune - Genesis
The SNES version runs at the typical 256x224, whereas the Genesis runs at 320x224 (also typical). The original Amiga version is 320x256, except it's a bit letterboxed, so the effective vertical resolution is probably 224 or close to it. What this means is that while the Genesis version pretty well matches the original, the SNES version suffers from screen cropping, which is significant in a top-down shooter. I also prefer the Genesis version's soundtrack, and the SNES version has some nasty slowdown in later levels. The SNES version does, however, have clearer-sounding voice samples.

The Genesis version also has better music and sound, since the game was created for the Genesis and ported to the SNES. ;)

I don't like this guy's opinion of the two, but you can see the comparisons and note how much clearer the sound of the Genesis version is.

Scratch what I said about the Backgrounds in EWJ2, not sure about all versions still, but the SNES version is quite different from the Genesis in this respect. (particularly on the first level where the Genesis, completely differnet BG art, plus the Genny only has a static BG -plus the scrulling foeground layers, while the SNES has at least 2 scrolling background layers, in addition to the foreground) Anyway, I like the artwork in both, though not so much in the Saturn, it doen't seem right for some reason...

And I definitely like the PSX/Saturn soundtrack. (not sure why I remeber otherwise)

But if Earthworm Jim 2 was ported both to the Saturn and the Playstation, isn't the Saturn-version better since it can handle 2D-graphics better then the Playstation and becuse it also has a better sound chip?

However, the first game I come to think about that you can compare the diffrent versions, that's Mortal Kombat which I definatly prefer on the Mega Drive since it has blood. Everybody knows that the Snes-version was consoured and that destroys the charm that Mortal Kombat has imo. But I think that the Mega CD got the best port even if it has loading times.

I'd like to see people compare 'Mega Lo Mania' between the SNES and Mega Drive.

I myself have no specific opinion, the Mega Drive had much clearer (Less muffled) voice samples and wasn't restricted by the lack of mouse support, but the SNES had mouse support and arguably better graphics and sound.

Aladdin: The Mega Drive version has the better graphics but the Super Nintendo game is the much better game. It plays much better and has the better stages. I really got no idea why everyone thinks the MD version would be better.

Rock 'n Roll Racing: The Mega Drive port of the Super Nintendo original suffers from incredibly bad sound. Not only is it worse than the Super Nintendo version, but particularly bad in comparision to almost all other Mega Drive games. Don't believe me? - just compare this terrible mess to the music in Moonwalker.

Arcus Odyssey: Pretty much identical, except for the better sound on Mega Drive / Genesis. SNES version doesn't sound terribly bad or anything (quite the opposite, really), but it's just not as good as the YM2612 version.

It's true that Saturn had the better 2D capabilities and the better sound chip, but that doesn't mean that porting the same 16-bit game to both consoles would automatically make the Saturn version better. In fact there even are 2D games that are better on PlayStation (e.g. Castlevania: SotN).

There are few games that use the Saturn's 2D capabilities at all, and even fewer that use the Yamaha sound chip (Panzer Dragoon Zwei, Story of Thor 2 / Legend of Oasis, Shin Shinobi Den / X / Legions).

How about the "Strike"-series? Like Jungle Strike, Desert Strike etc. I've never played any of them on the Snes, only on the Mega Drive and I can enjoy the games but I'm not sure if they're better then the Snes-versions.
