Obviously not a lot of info atm, but it looks like they finally realize what needs to be done. I'm not getting my hopes up because SEGA always ends up disappointing me.

Oh yes! I do dare to hope. :D
If it is a true 2D Sonic game I may finally have a good reason to buy a current gen console.
They'll probably make it a 2.5d polygonal mess. If they used hand drawn 2d hd sprites then it would be soooooooo awesome.
plz don't take the easy way out sega
they will prolly use 3d models to make the 2d sprites.
i wonder if Sonic 2 HD had/has anything todo with this. their "does this thing even run?" PC test demo looked absolutely awesome
well, I mean, almost every review outlet has basically said "JUST FUCKING MAKE IT LIKE THE OLD SONIC, DUMBASS!" so maybe Sega finally got the idea?
How can they screw this up? What don't get they get about "make it like the old ones."?!
If they seriously don't make a game like that, I will swear off Sega products! Except their arcade products! Because they rock!
They'd probably go the cell-shaded way, because that's a fad at the moment.
Sonic Cycle strikes again. I'm not getting my hopes up. I'll praise it when it's actually out and if it's worthy of being praised.
Cautiously pessimistic.
I guess they realized they had to announce something for the occasion if not Shenmue 3. :P
If this attempt to make a decent Sonic game sucks I'll finally know what it's like to be a Cubs fan, or the father of a meth-addict. The disappointment and shame I'll feel will be never ending.

But still, let's hope it gets broken this time. This announcement sounds like a step in the right direction.
I believe it when I see it, it pretty much sounded the same when they announced "Sonic Heroes" and "Sonic Unleashed". So I'll remain sceptical.
The cynical skeptic in me predicts:
4 new hedgehogs will be introduced
47 Sonic buddies will appear
Knuckles will again have a shitty rap song for a theme.
"Eggman" will still be used.
Well, Eggman is his name. It always was. Sega of America just decided to rename him to "Dr. Robotnik" because you can squeeze some Anti-Russian ressentiments into everything if you got nothing better to do.
Anti-Russian anything is always good. Look at Strider.

It's SEGA's response to this.

the rivalries are returning for the next decade of Nintendo vs SEGA wars.
Oooh...
Official teaser site
What I would love to see is something similar to what they do in 2.5d shmups......I love it when they mix 2d gameplay with incredible 3d backgrounds....I long for the day that Sega gets back to being a powerhouse....
I know it will take old school gamers like us who will actually decide if this new game lives up to the hype.
^I'm w/ gamegenie. It's so obvious.
...But I'll take the obvious over the non-existent any day. Otherwise, we wouldn't have Vectorman in the first place. ;)
I have not gotten my hopes up for a "new" Sonic game since the massive disappointment that was Sonic Heroes, and I'm sure as hell not gonna start again now. I'll be excited for this game once it has come out and proven to me that it doesn't suck. Won't get fooled again, etc.

Sonic the Pinata is back to be whacked for yet another time.
I'm surprised though that Sega is taking its fans seriously. People have been requesting this for a while. Hopefully they are finally doing some research on what their customers really want to play.
It even brings back the Sega Scream in the teaser trailer.
Come on..., you know you want to see what it's like...
^I sure do. :D
Sega Scream, where? (I only heard the classic "Sega" intro sound, not SoA's blast processing powered scream)
And anyone notice this:Is it me, or are they implying/refrencing Sega's mysterious 2010 console rumor?Quote:
It'll be out in 2010. No word on platforms, but the "HD" bit certainly narrows it down. What do you think, Sega fans? Do you dare to hope?
Yeah! With "Sonic the Hedgehog HD" as the exclusive, flagship, pack-in, launch title!
I would buy a new SEGA console, even if it had failure written all over it, hell especially if it had failure written all over it. If I was SEGA I would wait a few more years before I tried to jump back in the console business. Wait for an opportunity to open up. That new Mario game looks badass tho, I'm tempted to get a Wii for that and also Mariocart.
If it was up to me I would make the new Sonic game all beautiful hand drawn 2d. Background layers, characters sprites, everything. Just give it a shit ton of levels and alternate paths etc, and absolutely zero voice acting. None. Just Hire some really brilliant artists and give the characters tons of frames of animation. I would lose Sonic's newer look and go for the fat bellied old Sonic look. And give it some serious speed and challenge, maybe even make it too hard for all these newer 3-D loving gamers to handle. Blast Processing HD. And if the new mario has 80 levels, well by god Sonic will have 90 goddamn levels! Ha!
Sonic needs voice acting, otherwise he wouldn't be able to say "I'm outta here".
The plot better be Robotnic is being an ass so Sonic needs to teach him a lesson. Anything more than that is uneeded. Tails, Knuckles and maybe one other character is permissible, but having a thousand support characters is not needed.
Many will dissagree, but I'll always be partial to "I'm waiting...." (tapps foot), I think I'd like Jaleel White doing Sonic's voice in a game. Heh... So long as "Eggman" was nowher to be found. (interesting to note that both 1993 Sonic cartoons aired thir first episodes prior to Sonic CD's Japanese release, but all in the same month)
