I like the original sprite on the loading screen. Also the dust trail is a nice concept but it actually doesnt make it seem he is running fast. Oh well Still looks awesome.

Used as a crutch so people don't have to form their own opinions about upcoming videogames, you mean? raaargh nothing new can be good ever raargh *angrily huffs snack flavouring over keyboard*
Sonic fans create the best boycott of all time
These are the people who think they represent Sonic fans. These are the people who think Sega should listen to them as they presumably know what's best for the franchise.Quote:
...The petitioners are upset about Sonic the Hedgehog 4, knowing full well from the leaked footage that it will "simply not be anywhere near as good as the original Sonic games." They're not going to stand for this and have threatened to hurt Sega where it hurts the most: sales. "We will not buy it," the petition explains. "We will in fact buy Sonic 1 on release in protest of Sonic 4."
I almost want this game to be dreadful just for the schadenfreude at this point.
I don't think the dust trail is a problem, in fact, I didn't even notice it. The only complaint I really have is that Sonic animates a little too slow. His actual speed is fine, but he has that "ice skating" effect and he spins too slow when he jumps as well. It's a minor problem, but I'd like to see it fixed.
Oh you're too funny. There IS a Sonic curse these days. Sega has never been the same since they got bought by Sammy. Sure Sonic Unleashed wasn't a total mess, there's no doubt that Sonic Team has had it.
Also, I'd still buy this game upon release. Despite the creeping thought of this really being Sonic Advance 4 re-labeled as Sonic the Hedgehog 4, it's amazing Sega actually acknowledges their Genesis Sonic fans enough to make a brand new game centered on the old stuff (outside of the usual compilation packs. Blegh).
i hope it doesn't turn out like sonic advance 2 which was just way too fast the speed needs to be like sonic 2 which was perfect imo
Sonic Advance 2 wasn't fast...the levels were just too open ended, and the screen was too damn small.
The only fast Sonic games to my knowledge are Sonic CD, Sonic 2, Sonic Unleashed, and the two Sonic Adventures (when playing as Sonic, or even Tails in SA1)
Note that I didn't play Rush...
it was ages ago when i last played sonic advance 2 i traded it in a while after i got it but i just found it really fast
Well, I guess that means it should have been faster right?
Sonic 2 is certainly faster...Sonic CD is the fastest 2D Sonic I can think of.
They're the real speed oriented Sonic's.
Go watch some speed run videos.
Have fun!
Good times...
They should make the bosses like the ones in the SMS/GG games. Some of those bosses were pretty cool and involved more strategy than the Genesis versions.
Having different boss music for each one would also be pretty cool.
Best idea all day.
Sonic4 website has been updated.
If you look in the background you can see his running animation and its looking much much better guys!
The latest issue of NP has a small feature on it. The screen shots look like they were using the earlier sonic games for a model and trying to go back to sonic's roots. I don't know if they succeeded, but it looks like they're at least trying to do right by the series.
Holy hell guys, check out the official site. They have a track from the game up, and it's really good in my opinion. It's like a mix of old and new, and I love it. Also, they used the drum sound from the original games.

Sounds like a campy EA Sports synth soundtrack thrown over the old sonic snare drum.
It works, but why is is named 'Act 1', I certainly hope that they're not going to change up music too much in the same zone.
You can't say they're not trying. Sonic 4 may or may not be a success, but at least the developers deserve points for the effort.
The background music for the site almost sounds like a remake of the Sonic 2 multiplayer screen.
Two things:
1. 'Love the music track.
2. 'Love the screenshots.
Awesome link.
Yeah it does sound like they fucked the freaking cake with it. LOLQuote:
Apparently they tried to mimic the ‘the longer you hold down the jump button, the longer you accent’ mechanic of the classic games, but as a result, they fucked the freaking cake with it.
The article is convincing and I bet I'd feel the same way over everything that the guy complained about. I sure hope that the version he played is NOT nearly finished, as he believed.
I'm not a massive fan of the stage 1 act 1 song, it sounds like sega gave the sound guys then end theme to sonic 2 (sweet sweet sweet) and told to 'to make something like this', they've lifted riffs straight from it. It's unoriginal and uninspired (at least the inspiration didn't come from the right place).
BUT. I am not judging the book by the cover, I'm not deducting points YET. I'll wait till I've played through the game.
Is the Sonic cycle holding true still? I'm too scared to look.
Did you know they brought back a original level designer and sound/music producer from the old sonic games JD? I quite like it, But I think it will only get better.
I'm pretty sure il download it the day it gets released either way.....
Hey, whatever happens, I'm buying it the day it's released. :)
I knew about the level designer but not about the music. For me the music from the Sonic games (and Mega Drive in general) is the most important feature (more important than graphics, about the same importance as gameplay), so it'll be what I'm naturally most critical of, don't get me wrong... I'm not blasting it. :)
Streets of Rage is a prime example of how important those 16-bit bleeps are, I think I'll be buried in my coffin with #1 & #2 I like them so much, but #3... I cannot play it, this is solely due to the music... (the difficulty I can forgive).
But yes, personal gripes aside (I'm not one of those 'OMGzz it's not teh fat sonic from teh sonic 2 so I'm not buying its!'). I totally support sega with Sonic 4, it'll be a day 0 buy! (unless they screw it up 100% the day before release by adding some gimmick where you have to shake a wii remote/sixaxis to make sonic run :p)
Really? I thought I read he had nothing to do with the dreamcast sonic adventures? And when I say brought back I mean "put him on the project"
I can't be bothered to search to much as I'm on a phone but I just found this in my history......
So, is it just Dimps? Just Sonic Team? The answer is a bit of both: Yes, Dimps is working on the game. But there's actually more to it than just that: at the same time, we also have members of Sonic Team, including the original senior level designer from Sonic 3 & Knuckles on the SEGA Genesis working alongside them. It is most definitely a partnership, and the result of this teamwork is something many of us are excited for. - SEGA of America Community Manager RubyEclipse
I still want a disk.
Music sounds boring as hell. The arrangement is not very interesting, and the overly simplified production doesn't help either (Is that the same damn synth patch for every sound? Come on man, Sonic 1 on Genesis had a richer instrument palette than that).
Well, maybe I'm just getting a bit excited. I was glad to finally hear a song from Sonic 4. Now that I have heard it a couple more times,I can see what you guys mean by "dull". It was cool at first.
i didn't like the music.
Why couldn't they just get some J-Pop song and synthesis it. That's the reason why I liked the original Sonic trilogy music.
I still agree with KK-OBake here, folks. It's the old mixed in with the new. I'm just really happy that they didn't go with lyrics in mid-gameplay (I may be wrong about this on other levels, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed).
Also, I love the level design, but the truth is I've played Super Mario Bros Wii and I think we're going to get the same controls ("gameplay deficiency"). I'm not thrilled about that either, especially since most reviewers keep saying that. It all comes down to the jumping mechanics. Gosh, I hope they get it right. Jumping and Spin Dash are minor details they can still tweak prior to release day. I really hope they do.
I hope they ditch the spin dash and go the Super Peel Out route.
It's part of what makes Sonic CD speed runs so great and feasible.
Sonic 2, etc. spin dash speed runs are so hard since you need to always nail a "fast as humanly possible in .4 seconds spin dash" it's almost impossible to do four of those in a row, and get the fastest result possible.
Sonic CD, Super Peel Out, that problem is non existent!
Plus the Super Peel Out is just so much cooler IMHO, except for the lame name it has.
Peel?
Green Hills from Sonic 1 blow this Sonic 4 song away.
that shit sound like Game Gear music

Sonic 1

That's not real Sonic 4 music. That was done by whoever uploaded the Youtube vid.
Then why is it playing on the official site?
Ooops, I misconstrued the video below it that said something like "Sonic 4 music (by me!!!!!!)". It's where the video info used to be before Youtube changed everything up a week or two ago.
Here we go, much better

I think the Redifer was correct, in English the subject of the sentence is [the person] comes before the verb, and then the object of the sentence [the video] comes last. This is backed up as the sentence uses active voice (it's the subject that is doing the thing).
So you use the pronoun who when referring to the subject, and whom when you refer to the object.
example:
"JDB1983 corrected the grammar of whom?"
"Who corrected MrMatthew's grammar?"
