very good. Too bad SEGA can't produce something like that and have it in the game. :(

Original that tries, yet fails miserably to sound like a Genesis
Alternate version already posted above:
http://www.speedyshare.com/files/215...opersonic4.mp3
Superior version made by some fan that actually sounds like it came from a Genesis.
Sega's fans are doing a better job making Sonic games/music than Sega is. This is really sad.
That being said, I haven't lost all hope in this title yet. I'll at least be downloading the demo.
The BG music for the site doesn't play on my PC...
The same goes for Sonic Robo Blast 2. Sega can't make a good 3D Sonic game since Sonic Adventure 2 and the fans are making a good 3D Sonic game based off of the Doom engine! I bet Sonic Mega Mix will be better than Sonic 4 when it comes out (Sonic 4, that is.)
I, too, will try the demo (is it out yet? I've been too busy playing Metal Slug X to get on Xbox Live). Hopefully this well help Sega "reinvent" Sonic and make him awesome again. The fans can do it; so Sega, a million dollar company, should have no problem with it.
Sega needs to use their money to make better things, like a time machine so they can go back in time and make better games and bring them back to the future!
Lol. I think I posted the same comment on a similar thread, but somehow I keep coming back to this thread expecting news. Oh, foolish me... :(
Finished now
^Sounds good man. You made it yourself Gecko??? Certainly sounds like some awesome Genesis music. Certain parts of it remind me vaguely of Chemical Plant Zone...
I feel like people have already said just about everything that we can at this point. I wish the game would be released on disc for PS2 etc. cuz I'm certainly not going to buy a Wii or PS3 to play this game. I'll just pay my cousin to download it on his Wii but already I'm pissed to have to play it on the hated Wii. lol
I already said it before but I agree with the recent comment that Sonic Megamix will probably destroy Sonic 4. I think Megamix is the best Sonic game post-S3&K, and it's so awesome that I can't imagine Sonic 4 topping it. I think Megamix is about as good as it gets. Of course I would like to be proven wrong by Sonic 4 being amazing.
Sounds really good, Gecko!

This sounds infinitely better than the actual one. Very nice work. :ok:
whens it out
I really like the more Genesis-sounding renditions popping up now (especially GeckoYamori's :D), but I don't get the hate for the official track. I mean, I didn't really care for the synthesizer choice at first, especially since it doesn't sound Genesis-like at all. But, I see that's not what they're going for; they don't want to be seen as taking the lazy way out, they're trying to make this a real, brand-new Sonic game coming out in 2010 using 2010 tech. So, for that, I think it's forgivable.
Plus, the composition itself is really, really catchy. So happy and relaxing, so irresistible! In fact, I've had the Sonic 4 site open on another tab with the song looping for like the past 10 minutes... er...
I think I might have a problem, someone call a doctor :daze:
I can barely hear a melody in the official track. In Gecko's you can hear everything perfectly.
My problem with the original version is how homogenous it is. Every second of the track sounds like it's using the same instruments as every other second of the track, and in the same ways. Gecko's version is a HUGE improvement in that aspect, and a lot more enjoyable to listen to as a result.
Other than that, it's not bad. They did a good job getting the number of melody lines right, and the stereo arrangement of the different parts. I still think that one minor chord is kind of lame though.
I don't know why everybody is moaning about the music, you have to remember this isn't supposed to be a megadrive game! its a sequel with throwbacks. It is supposed to update the classics and not look or sound exactly the same. That is also why i hate when people complain about run animations and how sonic looks in this one.
They're not just complaining that it doesn't sound MD/Genesis-y enough, but that it's a bit off or bland sounding compared to what it could be; roundwars makes a good point about the instruments.
Hell, had they gone for something reminiscent of some of the Sonic CD tracks (either US or JP/EU, or both), that wouldn't have any tie to the Genesis sound hardware (except the past levels), but a lot of that music has the right feel to it too. (though Sonic CD in general has a bit of a different feel)
You're right about it being a throwback Sequel, but in that sense it should have some ties to the older games, perhaps even some remixes of older music (which has been done in some newer sonic games, like Sonic Adventure and some of the GBA/DS titles).
Going a pure retro styled game would be like Mega Man 9, this Sonic Game seems more in like with Konami's rebirth releases. (one can only hope that it matches those likewise compared to the contemporary classics)
My problem with the original is that it tries to sound "simple" but for all the wrong reasons. Production-wise, there's seemingly the same synth patch applied to almost everything in the track. But most of all the arrangement which is too simplistic, with the monotonous octave bass playing through the entire track, constant full note chords, and the simple drum pattern remaining mostly the same. All of this contributes to it feeling dull and uninteresting. In my arrangement the chords play more complex patterns, bass was re-written from scratch and the same with the drums. It has a totally different rhythm as well, which is switched up halfway through the track for variety's sake.
I'm not going to say too much about it, but this music was not much better the Splash Hill Zone Act 1. I'd rather they had just put all the original music into Sonic 4 from the original Sonic games.
Anyway, did you just happen to stumble upon this or was there something about it on the Sonic 4 website or do you have secret informants? ;)
Some guy at the Sonic Retro forums leaked it. I zipped up all 16 tracks and the two tracks Sega already released if anyone's interested, here.
Yeah, the seem a little sonicy, but seem to have a lot more in common with some SNES and Amiga mixes... The use of pan pipes, some analog synth sounds: a lot of Mega Man X-ish stuff. Mad Gear act 1 reminds me a bit of the Stinko Man music. :p (lots of analog synthy stuff)
They don't even fit in line with the Sonic CD mixes (either region) or some remixes used in Sonic Adventure, let alone some GBA/DS games. The tracks are closer in some cases than others though.
Mad Gear Act 3 definitely put me in the mind of Mega Man X.
Bo smusic 1 reminds me a bit of Banjo Kazooie
ew, all those tracks remind me of Sonic CD Japan tracks. Boring and unappealing to the cool, Sonic CD USA tracks.
Too bad game companies don't do dual game BGMs for regions.
Lost Labyrinth Act 2 sounds the most Mega Man X-ish to me, MG act 3 is up there though.
I think the Casino Acts sound the most Genesis-like, especially Act 3. (act 1 the least)
I think a problem with a lot of the songs is the use of that techno-ish synth as the main instrument (and in a couple case, analog synth sounding), it doesn't sound like the kind of synth 4-op FM does, or the professional synth hardware used in some of Sega's CD tracks for that matter. A lot of it sounds way to general midi-ish, not even adliby or MT-32-like synth. (the latter I might have been able to forgive for not sounding characteristically Sega ;p)
A lot of games got the characteristic SMPS percussion sounds somewhat close though.
It's not that it doesn't sound geneis-y enough, but that it sounds to generic midi-ish (like a lot of fan General MIDI mixes), so not like the hardware generated Sonic CD past music, not like the CD music from either region, not like the Sonic Adventure remixes, not like some of the more recent handheld releases, it almost sounds like it was done using some default midi player on the wii from the dev kit. (and maybe it is)
What GeckoYamori posted doesn't just sound cool because of the Genesis sound it has, but it's livelier in general and seems to have more energy, character, and felling to it.
I mean, Sega could have emulated the Genesis hardware fairly well if they wanted to, and if fan programmers can get good music done on the original hardware quickly, I don't see why Sega staff couldn't, or at least use custom samples to give a broader instrument set. (the VC sound emulation of the Genesis is pretty good, better than Gens in some ways) For streaming audio none of this matters though, they could record any source they wanted.
Now, they probably won't be using streaming audio tracks for the music, so from that respect, it's obviously more limited than what Sega has put on discs (though as MP3s, they shouldn't take up THAT much space --as 128 kb/s MP3s the entire red book Sonic CD soundtrack is 40 MB)
I totally disagree, most of the JP CD tracks are a LOT better than that, and, of course, the past tracks are identical in all regions (and not CD audio, but hardware generated). I do prefer a lot of the US tracks including the intro/credits themes, but do prefer a few JP tracks and find a lot of them pretty close. (like act 1's music, pretty much a wash for me) Stardust Speedway are some of the best of the US tracks.
...they aren't reminding me of JP Sonic CD tracks. Not at all.
: o
I have also listened all musics and songs I really like:
Final Stage
Boss Battle 2
Mad gear act 3
Splash hill 1 (On sonic 4 page)
Lost Labyrinth act 2.
Else looks kinda meh and unmelodyfied. Come on, they can do better!
Special Stage was shit and I don't really like the Casino ones.
I think I just fell in love  I love it. No, I REALLY DO LOVE IT! It's perfect. IMO the new Sonic songs should had stayed in 16 bit, even if it's 2010. Somehow the MD music sounds a lot better. Yeah I'm a 8 bit and 16 bit music whore. What can I do, it just sounds so much better than nowadays music. MD has this charm... gives the retro feeling, no wonder I love Sonic 3 and Knux music so much. Please, make more!
The music seems too... autotuned, or whatever the name for it is. But I'm glad we're getting a remake of Casino Night- that was my favorite stage.
Monotone?
I love the Ending theme Bigthecat has added in the music list.
Honestly Sonic 4 needs Tails.
They have said Tails prob appears in ep 2-3, not sure but in one of the interviews, they menthoned about Tails
Alison J Campbell: Is there any gimmicks to it (or stupid extra characters), or is it genuinely going old school?
It's proper old-school, with the one addition of a homing attack when you jump, so you can hop across lines of flying enemies to reach otherwise inaccessible platforms. Characater-wise, it's just Sonic and Eggman (yes, he's called Eggman again... grrr), although Iizuka-san of Sonic Team did mention in an interview that fans would be pleased with the line-up for Episode 2. Hopefully he only means Tails and maybe Knuckles. At least Episode 1 is just Sonic on his own.
In an interview with Game Informer, Sega's Takashi Iizuka is reported to have been asked if Tails and Knuckles will appear in Sonic The Hedgehog 4 to which he replied "Fans will be very pleased with the cast in Episode 2."
As for Episode 1, we're told that if you collect all the emeralds you'll get a cliffhanger ending for Episode 2.
That's all for now. You can read what else ONM forum members would like to see in Sonic The Hedgehog 4 by picking up a copy of issue 54 of Official Nintendo Magazine which goes on sale on Friday.

Looks like I have a lot of work to do.
