Get to it and sell it to Sega!
That music is the most bland, boring crap I've ever heard. Doesn't resemble the 16 bit music at all.
I quite like some of the tracks, apart from poor percussive instruments and percussion tracks themselves.... GeckoYamori has made one really incredibly awesome arrangement :

leak im still not sure about it yet.
^Music to my ears. But I see something here that is lacking in most Sonic titles past the 16-bit era: SONIC NEEDS MORE SPINNING ACTION!!!
He looks way to exposed when he flies off a ramp. I like my sonic to spin ominously. ;)

Sega acknowledges GeckoYamori for his awesome remix!
"@David, because geckoyamori merely changed the instruments to 16-bit. I highly doubt they can actually compose anything worth listening to. Regardless, the game is meant to combine both classic and modern aspects, which the music does quite remarkably."
What a dumbass.
Agreed. I'd throw in Knuckles too. After all, wasn't Sonic 3 & Knuckles the last 'title' they're trying to follow? I don't think hardcore fans ever had any real hatred for the original side-characters (Tails and Knuckles, I mean). It's the post-Sonic Adventure characters that just started blowing things out of proportion. Heck, I even accepted the E-100.
Yeah, it would make more sense if Knuckles was in Sonic 4. Or at least, was re-introduced in a later episode. Leaving him out entirely wouldn't make for a very good sequel now would it? I just hope Sega actually you know, PLAYS Sonic 3 & Knuckles and goes through the manuals for both Sonic 3 and Sonic & Knuckles to bring themselves up to speed on the story (or what little story there was to begin with) and try to make a logical advancement of the plot that was set previously.
Personally, I didn't care for any of the characters introduced in Sonic Adventure 1. The ONLY new character I liked out of that entire game was Chaos. He was pretty cool. Big the Cat? E-100? Blah...
Honestly if I was blind test and someone played Sonic the Hedgehog 2 - Emerald Hill Zone track and then played Sonic 4 Beta - Slash Hill Zone, I would believe two unrelated games were playing, and not the latter being the advanced sequel.
I really hope that the awful sound tracks we've heard so far of Sonic 4 end up only being Beta work and it all gets scrapped.
Still not a fan of how they've drawn sonic.... but then SEGA never listen to the fans so why I voice these concerns I don't know lol

More videos of the game!
Gives me a cheer! Mostly the boss battle and the ending there.
Wow the game looks great if you ask me cant wait to get it.
I can't wait it either.
So why is this called Sonic 4 when everything about this game screams Sonic 1? The enemies are the same, the boss fights are the same, it's the same game, only slightly re-imagined (except the music, which is raped). In fact the enemies and Sonic himself look FAR better in the real Sonic 1 simply due to the way everything moves (polygons used instead of hand drawn sprites, etc).
I like it, But his main running animation needs to come sooner than it does. Also why does he jump for so long? Does he have a magic tail aswell now?
I will buy it though, This hopefully will be the best sonic since the MD years
Looks awesome! I can't wait to play it. True that sprites are infintely superior to polygons, and Sonic's head seems way too big, but whatever, I'm gonna let that slide in favour of this being the first good console Sonic game in over 15 years.
Do you think SEGA will surprise us with this ??? unknown console release?? Why keep it a secret if it's just for the DS or IPOD???
LOL @ how the blog responses all want the official soundtrack swapped out for the fan remixes.
There trying to show gamers that sonic is back on track. Lets all just hope they fix the running and jumping :? other than that i think the level design is ok/good. I really liked the water level (cant remember the name) background. made me realize that the later levels are going to be very good.
I will be buying on the day of release, Im just really hoping they dont mess it up.
I think the problem with Sonic's head is that his face doesn't face (no pun intended) slightly towards the camera like the 2D sprites do.
I've pondered that idea too. ;)
and it's not at all technically impossible if they add-chips to the cartridge like they did back with Virtua Racing, should be really cheap to produce these days.
just think how much a Sonic 4 - Genesis cart release would re-raise the value of Genesis hardware.
The genesis hardware would be so bottlenecked for anything like that, it almost boggles the mind...
It would be easier to release it on a dedicated plug-n-play console than on a genesis cart... (which is essentially what said cart would be, but having to conform to the genesis's limitations)
I'm stoked to play this!
I'm not.
The videos look terrible TBH
If this is the final, or late beta of the game, I don't expect it to get a good review.
Why couldn't they keep the same physics from the older games?
This seems so slow, homing jump seems to induce noobyness, jump is sooooo floaty, the boss fight was terrible.
Not to mention the monotone music...
The graphics on it were so bleh.
It looks like the Duke Nukem HRP, or worse, jDoom's JDRP rather than a game that came out on an Xbox 360.
Did you see the boss?
The shitty explosions on it?
The screen moving slower than slow Sonic?
The terrible extra life jingle?
These videos are depressing.
: (
Why do people think that sonic 4 is to slow, if you look at the old games im pretty sure its much faster. I guess you would like it like modern sonic where half the game plays like a gloryfied quicktime event or a rubbsih minigame because it moves to fast to do good gameplay with it. Im sorry but ive had just about enough of people who are meant to be videogame fans moaning for no real reason, (Sonic fans the mostly) i say thats depressing! sorry for the rant but its really starting to do my head in.
This may sound strange but.... I think it's because the frame rate is higher that it makes it seem like he's going slower... make sense??
The video is the deal breaker for me:
http://gamerlimit.com/2010/03/sonic-...vel-ever-made/
Sega is dead to me.
Well...They were for a decade, but now I hate them. :ok:
Eh, that mine cart level doesn't look so bad to me. Looks like it's just designed to force you to build speed and plan your jumps accordingly. It will probably frustrate noobs, but an experienced player shouldn't have too much trouble learning the tricks. I bet it will play great with the Wiimote.
My question is whether the player is controlling the tilting screen or whether it is automatic.
That Mine cart video above gives me the feeling that it's going to be released on the iPhone, or some other accelerometer based system. 3DS perhaps?
Usually higher framerate has the opposite effect.. compare the sonic CD cutscenes to the PC ones and those to the Saturn/Gems Collection versions.
Sonic legs cycle though many more frames per stride than normal, and it takes many more frames per stride than the 2D games, same for rolling in the air (that animation was far faster on the 3D games as well), not to mention the lack of the spinning legs animation... (or similarly adapted to better fit a 3D model)
