So basically it's coming down to Shadow, Amy, or Big The Cat.
I'd figure Amy would be playable, based on the Sonic Advance games, I'd rather her than Shadow.
Obviously Big The Cat is the best out of the three, and hasn't been featured in...way too long, considering he's voiced by Duke Nukem himself.
I wouldn't mind shadow too much, as long as the dialogue was minimized, actually Amy could be worse with heavy speech... (I'd prefer both as non-playable if included though, just as side characters)
What's weird though is the characters not on the list, that makes me wonder. Other than Tails and Knuckles (which would seem to be implied as default, even thouch sonic is also on the list), then there's Espio (both an old, and recent character), Rouge, as already mentioned, with most others missing not that surprising, but still soewhat. (Mighty was dropped after Chaotix, Sonic the Fighters specific characters no surprisin either, I'd have though Blaze might be on there though give the general popularity in soem of the games -I mean considdering thy put Shade in there, and of course Cream is missing as well)
I'm thinking this whole thing will end up as more of a joke than anything, with the actual cast having little to do with that list.
I mean, why the hell was Chip even on there, including him would make no sense given the plot of Sonic Unleashed.

No. And that's why Mario has still managed to stay on top. No gimmicks, just straight-up Mario gameplay. You don't play as Peach in the main games. You don't fight some water monster in Mario. Mario doesn't have twenty people following him around. Just good old Mario vs. Bowser action.Quote:

Nah, there are plenty of "off" mario games. The RPGs and such are rather different and much more plot involved, but still great games fr the most part. The thing is that they continued to pump out good 3D and 2D (or 2D playfield) games alongside eachother.
You can argue about the ever increasing Sonic cast, but Mario's been doing that for longer, Daisy in SML, all the unintended characters from the western SM2, many of which recur.
One major difference is the lack of voices, Nintendo has been very good about that, and with Zelda too, with little snippets of voice samples or more often just giberish sounds and such in many cases.
That's probably a big part of it, immagine if all the newer sonic games had no actual voice acting, just text and gibberish/psudo vocal sounds at most. (I think the GBA sonic games are more like that)
I presonally disliked Super Paper Mario in spite of it's somewhat "traditional" blend of gameplay. Part of it would avviously be me not being as fond of 2D platformers, but I do like them. SPM just felt anoying to me, I much prefer the 3D and fully 2D mario games, as well as the RPGs. (especially the original Paper Mario, the other 2 console RPGs are good too, but the handheld ones not quite so much IMO -but they're OK)
Paper mario does show off how great the N64 controller is for button mashing. I can't manage action commands like that on any other controller. (especially not PSX ones, but even GC was less responsive compared to the N64's nice, big, soft/short throw A/B buttons) I could manage every single action command successfully without resorting to mashing thebuttons in an unnatural position using my index finger. (tapping with my thumb alone, no wrist action)

Anyway, Sega does seem to have handeled it differently, both have milked the franchises though, and there is a good bit of poularity among younger kids from what I see, even with the stigma from "hardcore" gamers and reviewers.
TBH I hate the direction Mario games have taken.
I hated Sunshine (despite being able to slide fast, and jump really high, really easily, that was fun) and I hate Galaxy even more.
But, despite knowing I'm the minority there, I hate all the Mario Advance games.
Despite two of them being my most favorite Mario games of all time (Super Mario World 1 & 2)
They added the voices to them...and they made Luigi always have a different sprite and crappy USMario2 jump...terrible.
Why do I have to hear "Gotcha!" and "Lucky!" every couple seconds while playing????
IMHO voice acting is great for story and cut scenes.
I wouldn't have it any other way.
But putting "Yum!!" and "whoamg I'm trying to shit in the air!" voice effects to games is just fail.
Like in A Link to the Past for the GBA, they gave Link's obnoxious scream to his sword slash, so now you hear him screaming, constantly, when...a sword swipe sound effect makes things much classier, and pleasing.
Sonic Unleashed is guilty of this too, hit a boost, and you'll ofter here "Wahoo!" and it gets old hearing that, and the other voice effects in levels.
I enjoyed "Yes!" in Sonic CD for extra lives, but it doesn't work in Sonic Unleashed, or Mario, or Zelda.
I hope they actually take advantage of the the higher resolution to get more details into the sprites, rather than just trace-outline-and-gradiant-fill like so many other HD remakes have done. The samples here look like clipart to me.

I hated Mario Advance for the very same reason. Sonic Heroes was also very guilty of this, moreso because you have three characters. I actually like Sonic Heroes overall, but it would be a better game if they'd just shut the fuck up. It also bothered me in Sonic Rush, when doing sequences of tricks, he has to go "yes!", "alright!", etc. for every single one. His voice drowns out the rest of the game audio and makes it harder to enjoy the (excellent) music. I don't mind voice acting in cutscenes (even if it isn't good, I can tolerate it), and minimal stuff like Sonic CD's "yes!" for an extra life is just fine. I think Sonic Adventure 2 had an acceptable level of voice acting; you occasionally hear the character's voice when something happens (e.g. Knuckles "I can't" when you try to dig too hard of a surface), but you're not barraged with it.Quote:

That had crossed my mind. The thing is, even if Shadow has gameplay that is identical to Sonic's, he's one of the last characters I would want in the game. He was bearable in SA2, but SA2 is the game that sticks out in my mind as being where Sonic started to go downhill. Plus, like FFVII fanboys/girls, fans of the newer Sonics tend to be annoying.Quote:

I like shadow's character except for the excessive angstly stuff at some points. SA2 was probably the best example of his character well used. I actually though Shadow the Hedghog was an OK game though, I kind of hate myself for saying it, but at some points it kind of felt like playing MDK2. These two on the other hand are responsible for quite some crap,
Shadow because he's the obvious evil dark version of Sonic but with EMOTIONAL BAGGAGE!
and Evil Ryu because he spawned a shitload of crappy Mugen characters by kids who palette swapped their favorite character and called him Evilsomethingsomething.
(and yes i understand the concept of Satsui Ryu, its just that those emo kids ran with it a little bit too far)
Hmm, maybe it's just how much I liked Shadow's levels in SA2 that skew my oppinion. I kind of liked the shadow past/patchy memoies part of the stryline in that one. Not so much the angst, just the missing past/memories part.
His character was more annoying in Heros and STH (moreso in the former), and not sure about other more recent games. (haven't played STH06, Secret Rings, or S&tBN)

Ah, good, Sega was trolling as predicted. Though of course we still have to wait and see the quality of the game itself, still. That crab badnik is definitely aBastard CrabShellcracker from Sonic 2, and not a Crabmeat... it's got the same Japanese name.
The comments are overwhelmingly positive on their blog, though I'll share a few particular ones to comment on... mm.

Not bad, but series's like Mega Man, Mario, Zelda, Shinobi and Sparkster disagree with the 'solo isn't fun if it's been done before' comment. Also, Blaze isn't really a Mary Sue, but Shadow is certainly a Gary Stu, at least in his own game.Quote:

It's sort of a given that Dr Ivo 'Eggman' Robotnik will be the villain here, though. When people say they don't want any other characters, they mean Sonic and old Ivo, not just Sonic.Quote:

Without other characters involved, then why is sonic running through stages? If theres no characters, surely then that means no villains (dispite badniks). I mean, its cool, and all, that this is like a sequal to the 1st sonic games, but without anyone other than sonic, wheres the main part of Sonic’s character gone?
Surely Sonic’s personality was affected by his friends a little. I’m not against this game, but i think it should have some other relation to the Sonic series other than the badniks and Sonic.

Isn't Sonic 2 the favourite of the series in general though? Sure you've got Tails there, but he can't fly when you're playing as him in that one, so all the paths are both distinct and accessible by both characters. It still works just fine.Quote:

Why do people keep forgetting that Unleashed alreasy broke that cycle. Sonic as only playable character, little to no recognition for his "freinds" 9even long-held ones like Tails) for the majority of the game, any the only "new freinds" were limited to "chip" who (given the plot) will not (and cannot) be a recurring character. (being part of the planet's soul/life force and all)
I mean, Pimpuigi already brought this up a couple time, right?
Huh, tails can fly, but he's not playable as th emain character, just by a "tag along" as player 2. (and really cheap when used properly as he can't die, so you can rely on him to kill bosses have just have P1 dodge -plus tails can collect rings for sonic as well)Quote:
