I wish Tails had been playable in the Sonic Unleashed day stages, as a Sonic clone, who can fly instead of use the light speed dash.

Would have been awesome boosting as Tails...

I think having Knuckles as the alt for Night stages could have worked out as well.
Have his glide to help with the hard platforming elements of the stages...specifically with the spiked balance beams.

Plus that would mean Knuckles finally would have a deep fighting system, and may actually wind up being cool again.
Probably not though...personally I never liked Knuckles, and then the SA games made me hate him.

Kool Kitty, this isn't the first time they claimed to be breaking the cycle either, when they were just rehashing some Sonic Unleashed stuff.
They also said "Return to speed!" and Sonic Unleashed already did that as well, to the point where it's probably the fastest Sonic game we'll ever have.
So fast, many idiot emo fans complained that Sonic was too fast.
That's...retarded. It doesn't get worse than that. That's how you know the fans have lost touch with what Sonic really is.
People who complain about Sonic Unleashed speed levels being "too fast," and "too hard" are just sad people I can't begin to understand, or empathize with.

Only game sonic has ever been too fast in is SSBB and only then because you end up flying off the side. ;) (picachu is almost as fast though) The really problematic thing about sonic in brawl is the uber cheap final smash.

Huh, that's really good to know. ;) I only knew you could play as sonic alone. (and you can glide with knuckles in sonic 2, I think) The player select screen isn't normally there right, you have to do something to get it to appear? (some button combination, or maybe hitting down on the D-pad a certain number of times, I don't remember)

Umm, no. Just normally cycle through the character options and "Tails Alone" appears. But seriously, how could you have not known that? That's like not knowing how to change a difficulty level.

Hey, I'm new to the genesis (back in the day my only sega stuff was on the PC, and literally a handfull of times at a freind's house)... I probably should have just checked rather than making myself look like an idiot though. :p


What's really weird is my freind, who grew up with his genesis and still plays it, didn't know there was a 2-player vs mode in sonic 2... (he'd seen it in the attract mode, but that's it)

I still want a Tails game where you blast things like in SA2 Tails' stages...

More or less. :) The options aren't shown immediately on the title screen, just keep pressing down until they come up.

And yes, Knuckles can glide in Sonic 2, as it uses Sonic & Knuckles where he can already do so.

Yeah, and fly the Tornado, and not like in SA1 with sonic riding on the wing, but a proper flying/railshooter sequence would be awesome. (but that's my flight/space sim shooter fan showing though ;))

Ah, that's what I was thinking of.

It was similar for me actually; I played Sonic 3 before Sonic 2, so I was surprised that Tails couldn't manually fly like he could in Sonic 3. The only times Tails ever flies is when he's following Sonic, as you've seen. :|

I would have nothing against FPS/3PS shmupping sections either... mech and shmup stuff would be so incredibly kickass, and the bosses must be all these pointless new characters.. there's many so there would be plenty of challenge :P

I am surely hyped. A bit.

I just hope the game will have the gameplay mechanics
of the originals, that is what I missed the most in the
new Sonic incarnations. It should take time to gain speed
but losing it should be very easy.

While I would love to have Knuckles and Tails this does sound to be promising. Who is the fool that wanted SA3? Fuck that Sonic on the Genesis> Sonic on the DC.

Sonic adventure 1/2 feel that way I think, at least before power-ups (the dash attack kind of circumvents it)
Regardless, there's the spin Dash from Sonic 2 (MD/Genesis) onward.

This is stupid...then we wind up with Sonic 2006 (it went off of that idea.)

Sonic Unleashed nailed it.
Got the 2D Sonic formula, in 3D, and without being a snail on rails.

TBH I hated feeling like Sonic was slow as a kid, since he was always hyped up to be fast.

Sonic Unleashed, and the two Sonic Adventure games, Sonic feels fast.
Sonic Unleashed especially...I hope he never goes slower than Sonic Unleashed 360/PS3 ever again.

Sega shouldn't be wondering whether or not to make Sonic fast, his speed should be unquestioned, like Raul Julia giving Cheese Steaks to the poor.

My thoughts exactly.

Unfortunately, that music does not excite me in the least. I appreciate that they're trying to evoke the sound of 16-bit music without restricting themselves to the limitations of the actual hardware, but those synths are just WAY off. If it weren't for the reused drum sample I don't know if they'd even be able to get the message across.

It sounds like Zelda 64 music.

Which, is a total bummer.

I feel like I am starting to buy into the hype. But I don't want to be let down! I hope Sega can get this right.

but a few things bug me
1) the 1992 running sonic sprite is from the beta or alpha version of sonic 2
2) WHY WHY WHY is is that anorexic sonic of today? they couldnt have made him look more like he did back then?
3) WHY doesnt he legs circle like in the old games! I mean seriously

That teaser trailer shows frustratingly little, but it does look, dare I say it, very promising. Much more so than any other recent Sonic game. Looks like Sega might actually have learned their lesson this time! Too bad they're still using that annoying modern look for Sonic himself though.

And of course, someone already put the teaser up on Youtube. ;)

Not bad, but I'll play it before I jump to conclusions.

Looks nice enough so far. :) I was expecting something looking more like Sonic Rush without the boost meter, and it seems there's a bit more of that, though hopefully level-wise it'll feel like the old ones.

I see they added the homing attack in... since it works nicely in some Sonic hacks I've played, I think it could work well.

I can't help feeling ever so slightly disappointed they should have gone the none 3d rendering route... thats just a cheap ass cop out to reduce development costs

I think they've taken a big risk saying its the successor to sonic 3 & knuckles storyline... thats gonna bring some heavy comparison to the two games regarding gameplay...

My first impression is that Sonic does indeed look too slow, and that his running animation seriously needs the circle pattern from the older games.

It looks promising, and the very ideal of them finally releasing a Sonic 4, a follow up to the real Sonic games for Genesis speaks volumes that SEGA is finally listening to it's older fans.

now if only this was exclusive to the next SEGA system. :D

There's something terribly wrong about the sprite... He doesn't look like the classic Sonic from the MD/SMS games nor the redesigned Sonic from the DC/GC games... He looks a lot like Sonic on the Sonic 3D Blast cover...

I think it's early though, they could seriously refine it.

His legs only spin in Sonic Advance 1 though, so that's not a good sign.
