Ya, PAL got the better deal of the 16bits consoles.
You got to keep the real name of SEGA's 16bits wonder, the Mega Drive and you got the SFC look instead of the console that looks the a Skyscraper from a bird's eye view.

We always get the shaft in America.
Yeah the US SNES is one fugly bastard. I'd contemplated geting a broken PAL SNES just to switch out the cases.
But I'd still have to deal with that lame-ass purple/lavender button theme.
Does the Euro SNES has a cart slot like the US system, or the Japanese system?
AMERICA GOT THE SHAFT!
And I don't mean this one:

Well, our games run 20% too slow, so...
I always liked the lavender+gray color scheme more than the rainboy one personally. The NA SNES and Carts are a bit unattractive though, SNES Jr is kind of nice (of course it lacks S-Video or power LED -though the composite is even better). At least the US carts have end labels though. :p
Yeah, and dont the games tend to be even more censored than US versions? (that and a lack of certain releases alltogether, especially RPGs -though I think there were a few that got a EU but not US release)
Getting back on topic, I went to my local flee market today and the guy had SFII (the original) for SFC. I told him that he would never be able to sale this thing because I was probably the only guy in town with a SFC system, so he sold it to me for $10 CAD :)
I also bought the cheapest game he had for SNES (Madden) for $5 CAD. I'll see if I can get those open if not, I'll order some gamebits on ebay.
I'll let you guys know if swapping the boards work and if it doesn't, then I got a working copy of SFII for $10 :p
Fairly sure a Datel Pro Action Replay 2 would work, but they're usually much too expensive. :/
NTSC Snes is an ugly thing. It does bear some resemblance to the head of a dead robot. But I don't really want the head of a dead thing in my house.
Smii speaks the truth, except the US SNES looks like a poorly designed late 70's spaceship.
Someone really should perfect time travel, then we can go back in time and bitch slap the designers for creating something so fugly.
I just re-read your initial post and realized your mistake. If you wanted to play a lot of JP SFC games and some SNES games as well, you should have just gotten a North American SNES and modded it. (removed the tabs in the cart slot; simple, non invasive, and indistingusable externally) I don't think there's any region coding whatsoever. (but iirc there is for PAL games)
Oh well...
You could still sell the SFC and pick up an SNES. (probably for a lot less than you can get for a SFC over here)
Oh, yeah... I read through the thread again.... (already addressed in the first couple posts)
Still, I think a Game Genie would be the most practical route, and also not it won't be destroying the GG, just defacing it. ;) (still fully functional, just ugly)
Unless you could get a Japanese Game Genie (did those exist?), or maybe a EU game genie would work. (same cart size) Then there should be no modding necessary.
Swapping cart cases seems rather cumbersome, particularly if you find other US games you want to play down the road.
