How many years have you Genesis/megadrive fans been collecting?

I've been a video game collector since I bought my first gaming system in 1994 (a Model 2 Genesis w/ Sonic 2). I lost almost all interest in video gaming around the spring of 2002 (mainly because of school becoming my first priority), then found my "way" again on april of this year. That's when I became a hardcore gaming collector (namely for the Sega Genesis). The funny thing is, it all happened because I opened a "treasure box" inside my closet. I was on an ebay selling-spree and I had run out of items to sell; my games were next to go. I've been glad ever since that I decided not to post them up for auction. :o

Then I found sega-16...

...and then Youtube...

...and then eBay, again...

...and then garage sales and thrift stores. :D

I've been on and off with all my video game collecting. For the genesis I first start getting into collecting for it around 1999-2000 took a break until now and recently picked up a few more carts for it ironically right in time for the Retrogen's release.

I have Mega Drive since early 1992 and in is live time (until 1997) I have 30 games.

in December 2000 I start collecting and now I have around 650/700 different games.

Only thing I collect these days are dead presidents.

Still have a cache of SEGA paraphernalia in situ and some unmolested games that have never been deflowered... But I've never "collected" sealed anything.

Don't know if I'll begin again but you guys are tickling my why the f*@k not gland.

While I started really getting into gaming in 1997 with the purchase of a Nintendo 64, it wasn't until 2006 that I got into the Sega MegaDrive when I got a batch of broken consoles comprised of 2 Super NESes, 4 NESes and 3 Genesis Model 1s, of which I still have one of those restored in perfect working order(had a SEVERELY corroded cartridge slot and damaged controller port). Since that day, I've been searching everywhere for Genesis/MegaDrive hardware(all I need is a working Genesis 3 and a Nomad) as well as Genesis/MegaDrive cartridges, of which I'm still missing:

-After Burner II
-Thunder Force III
-Contra Hard Corps(Japanese and American versions)
-MegaMan The Wily Wars
-G-LOC Air Battle

But my area is now FLOODED with the usual Sports bullshit that plagues the Genesis and Super NES, and it really PISSES ME OFF! I HATE SPORTS GAMES(well, except for Brett Hull Hockey '95(Super NES version - I think the Genesis one pales in comparison) and NHL '96)! This is what makes me want to buy/build a Flash ROM programmer because not only are those Sports shits widely available, but they're about 3 to 5 bucks a pop. Plus, I've got some Flash ROM chips just waiting to be put into a Genesis cartridge.

I really just started about 4 months ago. It feels like a much longer time. I would have a lot more Genesis stuff if I wasn't being "sidetracked" by Atari, Dreamcast, PS3, and the arcade machine in my basement. My measly collection of 21 Genesis games and 2 Sega CD games is now being blocked by my extra Darth Vader Atari 2600 to make room for my wood-grained Atari 2600. I haven't really been into my Genesis lately because of Fallout 3 and Marvel vs. Capcom 2 and I don't think I'll get back into it because now I'm extremely busy. I haven't found any Genesis games that have really caught my attention (except the copy of Snatcher the local game store has. Too bad I already spent my video game fund on MvC2 and Atari games.)

So, I guess I've been collecting 1/3 of one year. Beat that!;)

I've been collecting Genesis Games for 2 years now. at first I just wanted the Sonic, Phantasy Star, and Toejam & Earl games, but I found other games at the Flea Markets & Pawn shops that looked good and ended up buying those too such as Bonanza Bros, Shining in The Darkness, Comix Zone, and Earthworm Jim, sometime later I Googled Genesis and SEGA-16 was the 1st page to pop up and there were a lot more Genesis games I wanted some of which I eventually got others I'm still working on getting, as of now I have 110 Genesis Games and 5 SEGA CD games, though I haven't had the SEGA CD nearly as long about 6 months now and theres not too many SEGA CD games I want.

I started collecting about 2 months ago, I've owned a Genesis System for years, probably around 1992 or 93, I had quite a few games back then but got rid of all except about 12 of the games I liked at the time. Since my resurgence in Genesis has came around I have probably 50-60 plus games now in the 2 month span, mostly local game shops and a little ebay. I have about 10 or so games to finish my collection now of wants.

I also started my SNES resurgence in the last 2 months and went from 0 systems and 0 games to like 20+ games and 2 systems and like 6 controllers (one a brand new original SNES pad that was sealed! not those knock off pads)

Most of my games are loose in good to acceptable looking range but all play like mint since I've professionally cleaned them!

I now do have Extra copies of Gunstar Heroes and Rocket Knight Adventures to get rid of, lol!

Umm since spring 2009 after being on this site a couple months and then picking up a Model 1 Genesis+ M1 CD off shopgoodwill. (whihc would have been a good deal had shipping not doubled the price from the ~$30 I won it for, and had they not done a crappy shipping job... one of the ribbons in the sega cd had come loose among other things, and both smelled of smoke, better than having bugs in it though)

Well, at least it turned out to be a pre-TMSS model 1, 2 original 3-buttons along with the ac adaptors (one of which had the tip broken from being plugged in while shipping), but no AV cable and only Lethal Enforcers CD (which was a bonus).
Now I've added Sonic 1, 2, Virtua Racing, Ecco The Dolphin, Columns, 688 Attack Sub, Silpheed, BattleCorps, and Stellar Fire. Plus Virtua Racing Delux and Kolibri I recently found at Play & Trade for $.99 each, (no 32x as of yet, but my uncle had a loose one he got with a SMS II, and I'll get both if/when he finds it)

I'd started out with the original Genesis somewhere around 1990, when I'd bought my friend's HDG Genesis he'd bought near launch. I later sold it in 1995, along with my Sega CD and all the games to buy and rent import games for my newly aquired Saturn.

I'm not quite sure when I'd decided to buy another Genesis, but I believe it was somewhere around 97, when I'd snapped back to my senses and started buying Genesis games, while they were still around. It was probably whenever the Nomad was selling for $99.

Luckily, I was able to find complete copies of Herzog Zwei, Shining in the Darkness and my beloved Phantasy Star II (game guide included).


I probably have around 65 complete titles and another 10 or so bare cartridges laying around. You can dig through this list to see what exactly I own for the Genesis and my other systems.

Like most people here I had an MD way back when, circa 1990, and then I was lucky enough to get a Mega CD for Christmas in 1992. Collected games till 1996, at which point I flogged the MD/MCD and around 60 games to Cash Converters for £90 and bought two (!) Playstation games with the money.

I've regretted it ever since so about a year or so ago I bought a Multimega, filed down the cart slot, switch modded it and have been playing it ever since. My collection is around 10 games but, with stuff like Yu Yu Hakusho and Bare Knuckle 2, my collection is more about quality than quantity. I also have around 20 of the very best MCD/SCD games as I'm probably more of a MCD fanboy than MD.
