I'm old enough that I don't consider the Genesis to be retro, I've been playing it since it was new. My best friend got a Model 1 with Sonic 1 shortly after that package was released and then bought Streets of Rage and Revenge of Shinobi and we played the hell out of all of them. When the Model 2s came out with the Sonic 2 package, my mom got me one for Christmas, and I've been adding games and systems since then. I didn't get many games since I was still a teenager with no job, and my parents didn't have a lot of money.
When I was 18 I had a crappy job as an assistant manager of a Little Caesars Pizza, and I had a lot of down time. I frequented a local Electronics Boutique and found a Nomad on clearance new for $50. I bought it and that got me into a Genesis collecting frenzy. At this point the stuff was cheap and readily available at used shops, so I bought pretty much every Genesis game I wanted dirt cheap and played for hours a day at the pizza shop. I got kind of burned out after I left the job, and I didn't touch Genesis cartridges for a while. I was still getting into Ebay then for some CD stuff, but I didn't touch carts for several years.
Fast forward to a couple of years ago I start coming here to Sega-16, and I start collecting some carts again and replaying some old stuff. I discover some new games that either I hadn't heard of, or they slipped through the cracks before when I was collecting. I don't buy much stuff now since I have about 95% of everything I ever wanted for the Genesis, but I still get stuff from time to time. I'm probably going to go on another cart buying frenzy when I get the Retrogen in.
