Trickiest/toughest Dr Robotnik battles in Genesis Sonic series?

Which boss battles with Dr Robotnik in the Sega Genesis Sonic series do you think are the trickiest or toughest? Mine would me:

- Labyrinth Zone battle: That ascending up that shaft, with all the various traps, and the water rising, made for some really tricky maneuvering. It's probably the wierdest Robotnik battle, because you don't really attack him.

- Metropolis Zone battle: Oh god, this one is tough. It's near impossible to hit him wihtout taking damage from those spinning spheres around his machine. I can never keep my rings on this battle, unless I used Tails to take him out, and leave Sonic in the corner.

- Marble Garden Zone battle: Ugh, I hate this one. Flying in the sky, trying to bounce off Robotnik's machine.

- Death Egg Zone final battle in S&K: Definitely the toughest final boss battle of the lot. Avoiding the collapsing floor is the trickiest part.

Chemical Plant Zone and Hill Top strike me as being annoying; it's possible to die even after the boss is defeated. CPZ is worse because if Tails hits him, you'll fall through him to your doom thanks to the sliding platforms.

Really? i always felt his pattern was very easy to figure out.

Personally i hate everything water based in Sonic, so probably any underwater boss.

That last Sonic 2 boss always used to irritate me. Mainly due to the fact that you fall through it and die if you hit the wrong way. Quite buggish. The Doomsday Zone used to cause me problems, as I never realised you could hold the buttons to go faster. :roll:

Labyrinth Zone boss is the perfect conclusion to the zone itself - winding, cheap and entirely pointless.

Robotnik in Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine.

I can't even get past the third boss.

The Metropolis Zone battle. It is possible, but really hard to beat it without losing the rings. The toughest thing is jumping over him when he moves horizontally.

Final Boss in Sonic 2 & Knuckles when playing as Knuckles (obviously)

due to the fact that Knuckles can't jump as high as Sonic or Tails you only got a miniscule chance of actually hitting the boss, and the fight drags out very long; miss a hit, and you run out of time (yeah, I know you can jump his butt, but that requires pinpoint accuracy as well).

It's between the final boss of Sonic 2 and that of Sonic 3 & Knuckles. You can master these final fights, though. They become really easy after a while. Every final boss (mainly Dr. Robotnik) can be bypassed with a trick or two. It's just really tough when you play them for the first time.

As far as the other final level Dr. Robotnik battles, they're all a piece of cake. ;)

However, going with Phantar on this one, if you want to up your difficulty level, simply play as Knuckles. 'Nough Said.

Labyrinth Zone in Sonic 3. I hated that stupid battle. Almost there, almost there...SHIT! Got hit by a spike. =/

Oh good god, yes. Knuckles is a pain to use in that battle.

Marble Garden when playing as Tails alone is quite a chore. I also agree with Labyrinth, Metropolis and Death Egg Zone in Sonic 2 as Knuckles.

Chemical Plant can be annoying. Clearing an annoying section, only to make it to a boss where the floors flip? Frustrating, to say the least.

Sonic 2 final boss, especially playing as Knuckles. He's a pretty sadistic boss for what is, up until that point, a fairly forgiving game. I mean, not even one ring? What the eff?

Well I realize this is mainly about the genny games but sonic cd The pinball boss is probably my favorite Robotnik boss, not the toughest but still a little tricky.

The giant robot robotnik on the last level of Sonic 2. I always get poked by his claws.

The most ridiculous Sonic CD boss has to be the underwater one, surrounded by air bubbles. It's my third least favourite moment in the game (after Wacky Workbench - in its entirety - and the part where Metal Sonic is defeated by a bloody door closing in his face).

Marble Garden is an absolute shocker for me using Tails.

...playing it on a DS has NOTHING to do with this.

The most difficulty I've had with any Sonic boss, that I can remember from recently anyway, is the Metropolis Zone boss with Knuckles. Using Sonic, I don't have too much trouble with that boss; just jump over him and his orbs a couple of times, then attack when the orbs fly around horizontally. But Knuckles can't jump high enough to make it cleanly over the orbs, so that strategy just fails. In the end, I just let myself get hit, then damaged Robotnik as much as I could while Knuckles was still blinking. Make sure to grab a couple of rings while doing that and then repeat. It's cheap, but I haven't found any other foolproof alternative yet.

Other than that, Mecha Robotnik at the end of Sonic 2 can be a bitch, not because his pattern is hard to break through, but because one little mistake means you have to start all over again. And yes, whoever thought up the Marble Garden boss needs to be shot.

I hate chasing metal sonic at the end on Sonic CD

Sonic 1's Labyrinth Zone indeed.
Death Egg Zone in Sonic 2, right after metal Sonic.
And (but I seem to be the only person) Sonic 3's Launch Base Zone, since you got at least 3 Robotnik battles following up.
But the flying boss from Marble Garden is a tough one too. Marble Garden itself isn't exactly easy too because of all the traps and other stuff that make you loose all your rings.

Am I the only one who likes the Marble Garden boss?

I wanted to like it, because the concept is cool. Fighting Robotnik while flying in the sky. But the execution of it was just so annoying.

I think I've only played it with Sonic and Tails. This thread has gotten me curious how the battle works using a different character set-up.

The most difficult boss? The only one that comes to mind is the final boss of Sonic 2, which is also probably my favorite one! (Off topic, but I like beating him while the debug mode is on, and then turning into an object when Sonic is running down that exploding hallway, after the fight is over. THEN I like returning to the boss room, while the explosions keep surrounding Sonic, and THEN fighting the boss AGAIN, while Sonic is exploding constantly... When I discovered that trick I flipped out!)

Debug mode is great fun for fighting the final boss in Sonic 2. You can actually have rings :p

Sonic 1: Labyrinth Zone, easily.

Sonic CD: Collision Chaos. I didn't find any of the boss battles to be particularly difficult, but this is by far the trickiest to me, essentially being a pinball machine set-up, and it can take awhile to get to him if you're unlucky.

Sonic 2: Death Egg. I can handle it fine with Sonic, and 'Silver Sonic' is a piece of cake to me by any means, but with Knuckles... yeah. He really suffers with his jumping height.

Sonic 3: Probably Hydro City, not for being hard, but for being more annoying.

Sonic & Knuckles: Probably the final boss, again for being tricky rather than hard. It can be tricky to get the missiles to hit him whilst grabbing all those rings to sustain your Super form. The Death Egg boss comes close, too, what with all the gravity switching.

Sonic 3D: Volcano Valley. Isometric running on pipes above lava with flames going around everywhere isn't my idea of a good time, and I was stuck on this for years as a kid.

I'd always play Sonic and Tails regardless of if I had a friend or not, so I though chemical plant zone was pretty easy; I'd just jump towards Robotnik and land back to my original point causing tails to be the one to hit him. Tails was such a very good scape goat.

I really hated the end boss of Sonic 2 too. I was playing it with save states on Mega Collection Plus and I found it incredibly difficult anyway. Maybe I just suck at games. :P

Basically, you have to attack him with Tails's tails... I am not kidding you.

He barely has the horizontal speed, let alone the vertical speed to pull it off without getting damaged.:|

I gotta agree with everyone else on the Death Egg Zone boss from Sonic 2. I remember waking up at like 5 in the morning as a kid and playing all the way through to the final boss in a desperate attempt to beat it before my parents woke up and made me go to school. I could never quite get past the final final boss though, it really bugged me. Of course now it's fairl easy to clear the whole stage in under a minute but at the time it was a real killer.

Yep. It's almost as bad as trying to battle final Robotnik in Sonic 2 using Knuckles.

Yeah he was real tough when I was younger... Although I didn't get stuck at the boss, as I was usually playing the game on debug mode, and so I never really got stuck anywhere. I must have known all the codes for Sonic 1 and 2 before I got the games. Those codes were just everywhere in gaming magazines at the time.

Annoyingly, Metal Sonic is a pushover compared to Death Egg Robotnik that you face directly afterwards.

Well metal Sonic should be easier than the final boss, right ;)

The first boss in Sonic CD...if you couldn't stand behind him right away, if his arms didn't fall off, and if it took 8 hits to beat him.

Wow, that does sound really difficult! Now I am wondering what the battle is like if you are playing as Sonic alone, or Knuckles... I can only remember going through that stage with Sonic and Tails together...

If you're Sonic alone, Tails turns up anyway. I always assumed they must have some kind of "shining" thing. Knuckles has a different boss altogether.
