Eh. I'm not worried yet, I'd imagine that any screens we're seeing right now are still very much WIP shots.
Looks like it could be fun, and I loved the originals, but the graphics are pretty charmless at the moment.
The only good Sparkster game was Rocket Knight Adventures. Looks like that's not going to change anytime soon.
So, has anyone picked this up yet?
It's good. It's not a classic or even particularly memorable, but it's good. Fun little platformer with good gameplay, but a little on the short side and not all that varied.
I checked out the demo. I didn't think it sucked, but I didn't really like it much. It doesn't look very good. I mean, I like the way the PSP Ghouls N' Ghosts looks, so i'm not against sprites going polygonal. It just looks...eh.
Gameplay-wise, it's OK. It's no RKA or Sparkster(SNES). So, it didn't leave much of an impression on me.
I liked Sparkster on the MD over the Snes....surprisingly.
I downloaded the demo, but I don't have enough points to buy it. Once I get a points card, I'll grab it. I liked the demo, and the art wasn't so bad once you get used to it. It plays like RKA, which is the most important thing.
I haven't tried the demo yet but honestly I really don't like the new art style at all. the new art style just reminds me of a cheaply produced poorly drawn cartoon.
I just don't like the graphics... it looks so bland... and blocky...
It's a shame you're all writing it off based on (presumably) the demo; the in-engine cutscenes are fantastically animated, with the controller in hand it's like playing a Saturday morning kids' show. The remixed RKA 1-1 level theme and the environmental effects on your rocket pack were nice touches, too.
I'm not a fan of how the developers hooked his sword to his rocket pack, and then did nothing with it; it just felt like one of those 'videogame logic' things that didn't NEED explaining. The controls seemed rather stiff, as well, particularly in later levels where you're aiming to fly through spaces only a few inches wide.
