Heyya! I just tried out the port of Comix Zone for the Game Boy Advance on an e-moo-latah. I figured if it was good I'd buy the actual cartridge. Unfortunately, it isn't. They buggered up the controls, music and animation... the only thing they got right is the sound effects, which sound just like the original. Oh and I guess it was nice of them to put in a save feature. There's also a multiplayer option, but I don't know how that works. http://image.com.com/gamespot/images...2587_front.jpg
The GBA is more powerful than the Mega Drive/Genesis, why did they have to bugger up ports like Sonic 1 and this? :fit:
(Yeah I could just play it on my Nomad but the GBA is my favourite system ever and is somewhat more portable, too. :p)

Damn that music is horrible, but that multiplayer thing sounds interesting.
would have been a cool option to have in the Genny version, could have been done similar to Zero Tolerance's link option. :o

You see, it all boils down to this:
The GBA is mainly a portable version of the SNES.
The SNES did NOT, I repeat did NOT have Blast Processing™.
Therefore, all ports of Genesis games to GBA will SUCK!

The music and Animation in the GBA version suck! must be the lack of blast processing.

That doesn't explain why the port of th eSNES version of Earthworm Jim 2 sucked so badly. :p
And why a fan hacked that pos Sonic Genesis game into a resprctable port. ;)
It's just sloppy, rushed developers...

According to the credits, Howard Drossin, who was also the composer of the original Genesis version, also composed the GBA version's music. But why is it different you might ask? If they used the music from the Genesis version, then it may sound awful, like how the Genesis version of Sonic 1's music being good while the GBA version of them being worse. Using different music sounds okay, in my opinion.
I searched for the GSF file of this version of Comix Zone, but couldn't find it.

Hrm I had no idea this game was ported to the GBA. Its strange that it does seem to be running slow. Not just the animation but the music sounds slow too. This isn't just the emulator slowing it down right?

The GBA has great sound playback capabilities, but it can't generate music in the same way the Genesis does. They could have just put audio files on the GBA cart of recordings of the Genesis game. Perhaps they cheaped out on the cartridge size, or perhaps whoever handled the port were morons.

I doubt Drossin did any additional work for the GBA version. His credit is for his original work on the Genesis. The GBA port uses the same compositions, it just sounds like shit.

The fan hacked version of Sonic GBA souds very close to the original genesis, just a bit scratchy due tot he nature of the GBA's PWM DAC's along with the Genesis instruments being reproduced from digitized samples.

It's a cheap port/remake :p
Let's face it, when you can just grab the original game and play it on a Nomad and it's better than the GBA ports, then you know they cocked it up :p

Being a Comix Zone nut, I'm shocked I've never even heard of this. And yes, that boxart is crap.

Colored text is stupid, just fyi. Are you a furry? If so, you're the second furry I've seen who posted all of his messages in blue text.
Although I guess it makes them easier to ignore when they stand out like that.
