Nintendo DS Multiplayer - "Phantasy Star 0"

Phantasy Star 0 comes out on November 10th.
Not a traditional RPG, it's continuing the PSO/PSU legacy in a new direction.

Anybody buying it day 1?
We should organize a set time w/user info here when it launches. :nod:

I'm more psyched about this than Phantasy Star Portable because it branched out into a more traditional direction with an apparently 'decent' Offline mode.

I assume most will wait until the online connectivity is proven reliable via reviews, but I'm willing to buy it regardless.

I might end up picking this one up. It's more of an "Action RPG," right? Like Summon Night or the Crystal Chronicles titles, right?

It's probably an Action RPG as much as Final Fantasy 12 was an Action RPG, but maybe it's a little more "real-time" I don't know, I don't have a flashcart handy to play the import. :huh:

Similar to Crystal Chronicles, only probably more complex in execution.

I would however, compare the gameplay of Phantasy Star Portable on the PSP to the original "Kingdom Hearts", where you have a menu command you spam or move through to make different selections.

I haven't played Summon Night past the unending generic anime intros so I'm not sure about it, I happened to be playing The World Ends with You at the time too, so I didn't care as much. :lol:

From the hands-on preview, it sounded like it uses real-time combat, so without having played any of the PSO games, I automatically imagine dungeon-crawling, Diablo-like gameplay.

Man and here I was hoping with a name like that that it would have anything to do with the original games.

While it is real-time, "Knights of the Old Republic-esque" is the best description. Your success in landing an attack all has to do with stats, rather than just pressing a button like Zelda. The gameplay is actually a bit frustrating when you start up, there's a rhythm to the action that you'll need to get accustomed to, but even with its flaws, PSO is insanely addictive.

We'll all have to do a FC trade when this comes out :D How about FFCC Echoes of Time? Has anyone tried that one?

It's on my "to buy" list.

But as long as we're dancing around the subject of multiplayer DS games in general, now seems like a good opportunity to mention other games that I'm sure many of us have. Like, I don't know... Advance Wars? Mario Kart? I'm sure I have a few other big ones I'm forgetting, as well.

Tetris!!! Best version of Tetris ever.

I'll compile a list of my online games in a bit.

The only 2 DS games I own that have basic Wifi is Heroes of Mana, & FF3. :( Two games I can't be bothered to give a damn about.

I just checked out the DS wifi tunneling scene, not much hope on that front.

I only have had a few DS games, but I can recommend almost all of them. The only mediocre game I own is Star Fox Command.:

Elite Beat Agents
Mario Kart DS
Nintendogs: Labrador (used to own)
Animal Crossing: Wild World (used to own)
Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon
Mario Party DS

I also recommend New Super Mario Bros. and Tetris DS.

I've never really been into the Phantasy Star series but I'm thinking I'll pick it up. Novembers release schedule for the DS is pretty weak so, that gives me somewhat of an excuse.

For November, I've already got my sights on four games:

COP: The Recruit
Star Wars Battlefront: Elite Squadron
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
TMNT: Arcade Attack

And the next Zelda game is coming out in November, I believe. I think it's going to be a pretty good month.

Edit: early Dec for Zelda. That's still five games I'm waiting for over the period of about a month.

I'm 'eyeballing' Nostalgia & Phantasy Star 0 with great interest.

I only own 12 games for the DS since I got a DSLite in 2007.
I'm a slacker, but I bought:

Castlevania Dawn of Sorrow, Chrono Trigger, Contra 4, Dragon Quest IV, Dragon Quest V, Etrian Odyssey, Final Fantasy III, Heroes of Mana, Lunar Dragon Song, Lunar Knights, Magical Starsign, Yoshi's Island DS.

I was skulking around on ebay trying to find a decent deal on some games I played & want via flashcart, but ended up getting sidetracked by reporting the army of bootleggers that plague it. :lol:

It sucks having to buy shit online from the publisher directly, not all of them have stores or they go OOP too quickly.

I need a DSi to check out my already owned games, I'm paranoid. :huh:
