my god, it's like a cute Aliens with video game mascot characters!
i got myself a free game then, super mario 3.... then I find it doesnt play with the HD cable...... great! thanks Nintendo :( yey I press the home button it paused and the screen comes up, un pause then its blank again.... i mean WTF!
^ Another happy VC customer............. Sorry about the BS you have to go through man.
Zombies Ate My Neighbors (SNES) hit the VC today as expected. Golden Axe arcade is up for 900pts too.
Aside from price-moaning, the games are irrefutably great. :ok: I can see a lot of kids playing Co-op ZAMN this halloween while hoarding candy.
Japan still gets Castlevania Adventure Rebirth though, & no signs of life for Castlevania:Bloodlines.
Zombies Ate My Neighbors?? If I didn't already have that on the Genny, I'd scoop that game up in a heartbeat!
I guessthe VC still has some life left after all
Probably because these games play in their original native resolutions (240p NTSC in my case), which is great for those using SDTVs (and still OK for others hooked up via YPbPr component, S-Video, or Composite), the only hitch there is that they also play in the original aspect ratio, and sicen we have the Wii set to anampophic 16:9, we have to switch the TV to 4:3 again for most VC games.
We already had SMB3 though, I kind of wanted Life Force and my little brother was considering Final Fantacy, but he ended up getting Excitebike... which I don't think was a particularly good choice.
I want Dragon Warrior 3, bitches.
Someone sacrifice a hedgehog and make it happen!
Why just nes games? They still feel they have to shove their own consoles down out throats?
I wonder how long iPhone users are going to continue to enjoy their dirt cheap games if the piracy rates continue as they are.
If this situation continues unchecked, you're not going to be paying those cheap prices for much longer.Quote:
On day one, according to Neptune Interactive, the number of illegitimate copies of Tap Fu submitting high scores to the game's leaderboards was more than 50%. Two days later, it was more than 90% by Neptune's figures. Worse? Neptune's findings indicate that zero percent of the pirates playing ill-begotten copies of Tap Fu ultimately became legitimate purchasers of the app.
Another article about it on Edge has more from the developer about how they're thinking of combating piracy.
They also talk about not letting pirated games connect to servers for online play, which sounds completely fair for me. The DLC thing screams nickle and dime to me though.Quote:
“Also, the move to DLC seems to be another step in the right direction to combat this. Give away the base app for free and charge for content. This forces the pirates to change their strategy significantly and it might be a while before it becomes feasible to attack this system.
Is PSP any different? Maybe not with in game purchases, but holy fuckballs I don't know anyone that DOESN'T pirate PSP games spare for 10 years olds and younger. I don't know if I like the idea of in game purchases though, that might let them circumvent Apple's current $10 limit for games. At this point though, I don't really care. I'm already about at the limit that my iphone can take as it is, I can't expand to any more pages. After perhaps Earthworm Jim, Asphalt 5, and that Chuck Norris game, I think I may be done.
At any rate, this won't affect cheap prices, the 99¢ games are usually priced as such to promote the game and get some reviews to make it stand out more when they jack the price back up. What they may not be taking into account is that many of those people pirating the game are kids that either don't have access to their parent's credit card to buy it through iTunes. Be it iPhone or iPod Touch, a jailbreak would circumvent that problem. Another thing they aren't considering is people that wouldn't buy the game even if they couldn't pirate it. I think they should just look at sales straight up and see if they're happy with them. If yes, STFU, if no, go do something else.
If pirating on the iPhone reaches PSP levels, then it's really in trouble. The potential consequences (worst case scenario) could be developers leaving the platform, as they've done with the PSP. I don't think you'd see too much of that though, given how cheap the games are.
They are looking at sales too. It seems like virtually no one who's playing it has actually bought it.
no, they're looking at imaginary potential sales versus actual sales and (at least by your insinuation) mistakenly thinking pirated game=lost sale. The truth is, when something is free, more people are willing to jump on it than when it actually costs money. These figures don't account for how many people would simply do without if they couldn't get it for free. Me and my PSP are one such example. I wouldn't pay 1¢ for a VC-style emulation download (I have emulators for retro systems on it) nor a VC-style PSX download (I have EBOOTS as well). As for games, I wouldn't pay more than $10 for anything currently available on PSP, and since games generally premiere at over $40...fuck that. So, I didn't get a PSP until I had confirmed I had access to the proper resources to mod it. And, funny story, I play games I own in cartridge or disc form more than anything else, I just play it on the PSP because it's convenient and I can watch TV as I play.
So, back to the iPhone, I'm not really worried. Like I said, I already have an iPhone full of games anyway, I don't have room for more, and most developers are doing it for fun/publicity for future products anyway, it's a completely different scene from most money whoring game companies of today.
But I thought eliminating, or at least greatly reducing piracy was one of the main factors behind pushing for digital distribution in general. If piracy is just as shitty on the iPhone, and the PSP Go is cracked soon (which is on track to happen, not that anyone even gives a shit about the Go), do developers still want to move away from hard media?
http://www.raphnet-tech.com/products...egory=Adapters
I don't own this, but thought many could use this link.
They also make many more controller adapters.
The reason I like this site is because their adapters always let the mode button work, unlike Retro Zone's (old?) adapters.
Thanks for the link. I might get one of those genny to usb adapters.
I have the 4 in 1 Adapter, the Genesis Part only does 3 buttons
It might come in use if I ever get a Wii
I would like the 4 in 1..but 2 rants
1. the Super NES sides read the Dpad as the Analog Pad, I don't know why they did that
2. Genesis side is only god damn 3 Buttons, even with the 6 Button Pad...WHY
I just want a PS2 to Gamecube adapter. So I can play "Metal Slug Anthology" without stupid fucking controls.
I read the message I got from Nintendo stating that if you bought the Internet Channel for 500 wii points that you'll get a free NES game. I was wondering if this applies if you gave it as a gift to friends because I gifted the Internet channel to two of my friends and I was wondering if I'll get a 2 NES game for free form this and will I get "refunded" for two or just one (if I do).
As far as I know the deal ended on December 31st and you're out of luck entirely if you didn't redeem it yet. What it did do was allow access for the NES shop with every game listed at 0 points.
The link for it was in the shop channel, at the bottom of the screen IIRC. As for multiple refunds, no idea.
I don't feel like creating a thread for this, but it bears mentioning so I'm putting it here.
New Club Nintendo prizes!
I already ordered Game & Watch Collection 2. I cashed out for the first one last year and I've been saving my points ever since in hopes that they'd release the follow-up for us 'Mericans. Finally my wait is over (aside from the 4-6 weeks for delivery part, at any rate).

I recently had the experience of playing some sports games on a Wii and I can't figure out why a "current gen console" has jaggies on all of those sports games? The games 'sure' were fun though... Nintendo got that much right.
Is it a limitation of the Hardware or does it depend on the Game?
I also heard that the box only comes with a Composite cable and ONE freaking controller... wtf... why doesn't it come with at a minimum an S-Video cable and two controllers?
thks;)
Because it's not a PC.
/Thread.
;)
That and consoles haven't come with 2 controllers in... gosh, a decade and a half now? I never understood that.
Anyhoo, yeah, I gotta say, jaggies is something I've noticed with Wii games. There's this device that upscales the Wii's graphics with HDMI upscaling.
http://www.kotaku.com.au/2010/03/wii...gh-definition/
It would be nice to see actual screen shots though, rather than a camera pointed at a TV screen. This device COULD help smooth out the jaggies a bit.
It's probably because of the hardware limitations. Even the PS3 and xbox have games that aren't AA, but the problem that your having is the Wii isn't HD. So your TV scaler upscales it, and most built in scalers are BS.
If I can remember, the N64 had some form of AA in some areas. But the picture was basically all blurry and smudgy looking anyway.
The Wii could of at least have done 2x AA, but it still would look pretty jaggy with that at the resolution it runs at.
^ indeed. Lucky me I have a PCI-E video card (Nvidia GeForce 9600 GSO). ;)
Would be nice if I could find the rest of the parts I need to complete my old game PC. :(
It does have antialiasing... I think every console from the N64 onward had some form of AA... (that's supposed to be one of the DC's strengths over the PS2) I think the GC had pretty good AA for its time, but given the Wii is barely a step above the GC,its AA is pretty outdated.
Not to mention, there's only so much you can do with a 640x480 resolution (not sure if 720x480 is used for anamorphic or not). It might be a bit less noticeable in 480i than 480p though.
Of course, turnign the sharpness on the TV down will also help... In fact, sometimes having sharpness turned high (on an HDTV) will cause jaggies and other artifacts to appear, which aren't even in the native display, but a defect of the "edge enhancement" filtering to make false sharpness.
Try turning sharpness down to 20-30% (possibly 0-10%).
I hate with newer Consoles how the controllers are so expensive, it used to be $50 for an Xbox 360 controller(I'm guessing the Sixaxis was the same). It's ridiculous that a controller can cost nearly 1/4 of the price of the console itself, greedy fucks.
What does "upscaling" have to do with anything? There's either AA or there isn't. Somehow, that 'excuse' doesn't jive in this day and age. ;):|
:( Sorry to hear it...
Could have fooled me... there were Jaggies everywhere. :|
Even 2xAA would suffice... doesn't matter what resolution or size of the tv imo, fixing jaggies is fixing jaggies. The bigger the screen, the more benefit can be seen from higher amounts of AA, i.e. 8 & 16x. 2xAA would be nice though.
Is AA an 'automatic' feature for the PS3 and 360 or does it depend on the Game to support it? AA has been in use since Quake... I don't understand how 'current gen consoles' don't have such a feature other than - the Developers being lazy and not programming for shit (making excuses that enabling AA would hurt framerates/blah) or the hardware (video cards/cpus) in these Consoles is blah.
Second question guys: does the Wii/P3/360 support V-Sync, and is it the same as AA, i.e. specific to the game?
:):|:)
I understand you're only joking, but think about something: it is a computer... too bad it doesn't act like one should though.
I'll stick with the real deal thank you very much. No thanks, Nintendo.
Why would I ever pay them to 'rent' shitty imitations of the real thing when I can simply buy the real thing and have it for life?...
silly that anyone buys into these weird schemes
