Heh... that really got a rise out of you, huh? Way to hold onto your poker face.
Wow, really?
I don't know anything about PCs and I'm calling bullshit on that one. It seems to me that people have been paying for DLC long before gaming consoles were able to connect to the internet. ;)
Hmmm... if memory serves, that's all you've been doing since you joined up here. Why don't you do us all a favor and kick rocks, huh? Tell your story walking, make like a tree/ball/egg, don't let the screen door hit 'ya.
Pick your euphemism and leave. Nobody likes you here.
Why do you care so much? You've made it pretty clear that you have no intention of buying any of these new consoles, so you really have no reason to get worked up about it.
Oh, but seriously: leave, man.
Because it's affecting PC Gaming. Like I said, if it 'only' affected the Console market, I wouldn't care... but since this "renting software" idea has done so well with the Console crowd (you), the Pubs/Devs see the potential for it working for the PC market just as much.
Why do I care... because I prefer to own my software: I want a tangible, hard copy of what I've paid for.
I refuse to pay to rent software, and at the same time agree to a License User Agreement that forbids me from making backup copies of said software because it is illegal and against the Agreement. I refuse to pay for a game that I might not be able to install at my leisure in the future because of having to rely on the Pub/Dev for a means of installing said game.
You can simply say, "don't support it and quit your crying", but if I'm in the minority who doesn't support it, and the majority is what drives the market, then where does that leave me?... it leaves me in the dark when 'at some point in the future' there are ZERO hard copies of Games being sold anymore, and everything is purchased via the Net.
that is why

Oh lawdy!

Okay, you're anti-VC/WiiWare (and, by extension, anti-PSN/XBLA). I also get the impression that you're anti-emulation. That puts you on the opposite side of every argument TheEdge and 17days have ever made on the subject (though still not on my side, exactly).
It's hard to fault you too much, based on that alone...
I'll leave it like this: I see where you're coming from, but the console industry is emulating the PC industry as far as digital distribution goes, not the other way around.
If I were pissed off about how the market goes nowadays to the point,
where I would like to change it, I would not try to change it by posting
angry posts on sega-16. We here don't own the market, we are the minority
ourselves (preffering old games over many newer ones).
The self entitled whining that is the PC gaming market has been heard again and again. The rage is spewed, and inevitably they bend over for it.
Getting angry with one demographic (console gamers) because they get more attention from the source of frustration (some deveopers) is ridiculous.
Boo. Fucking. Hoo.
Digital distribution is the way everything is going. You can't blame console gamers for 'accepting this concept first', it hasn't been implemented until a few years ago. PC's have been doing it for a decade or more.
"RAWR! I NEED TO OWN A BOX! I WANT TO BE ABLE TO PLAY MY CDROM/DVDROM/FLOPPY DISKZ IN FUTURE MACHINES AND BE ABLE TO MOLEST THE ARTWORK ON THE CARDBOARD! RAWR!"
Really though. Games are toys. Play with them, experience them. Don't horde them and shit everywhere because they're not tangible. Don't whine and moan about not being able to play these games in 20 years. Be productive, lobby copyright reform to uphold the shift old games into public domain. If anything, the PC can benefit the most in this approach since it's not as easy to pass off as a proprietary product.
I'm sorry for cursing you, but your opinion that it's ok to not have access to the games you've spent your hard earned money on (later on in life) utterly amazes me. Maybe I do... maybe I do.. dunno.
Fair enough, this is the board I've chosen to be on for my Game related discussions. The main reason I'm throwing my angry thoughts out here in the open is purely for venting purposes... I don't aim to change anything by posting, lol. I can understand that you guys most likely think my posts are simply to evoke some kind of response (i.e. basic trolling), that's not it in the slightest.
It's simply me getting rid of some frustration... it's not the most tactful or positive way of doing it, but it makes me feel better in the end. ;)
I'm sorry if it's a bunch of blah blah (been there done that) for you guys.
I'm not going to lie. I haven't gone through a 10th of what I have, PC and Console wise. It's a big collection and I play games very slowly. I intend on enjoying them at my pace, and with some of these games, I intend on playing them for the rest of my days.
Should I not be able to enjoy Morrowind or Half Life 30 years from now if I so desire and have a PC capable of running them?... I think so.
If the support of purely Digitally sold Games didn't affect my capability of acquiring Games in a box (without a restrictive User License Agreement) then I wouldn't have any beef.
Sound suggestion, honestly I agree... but do you truly think this is worth anyones effort considering how popular DLC is these days and will become in the next 3-5 years:confused:
Hell, there are some PC games that require the user to be online 100% of the time... for Single Player games. Someone please explain to me why that is and how that's acceptable?...
My main gripe is that WE the Gamers are losing control of what we have a right to purchase and play how we see fit... and it's only getting worse.
Guys, I'm just tossing my side out here because y'all came with some points to which I felt the need to address... I said my piece.
Again, apologies for being so venomous today... but this gets me hotter than most things. I don't like being dictated to when it comes to my Hobbies.
