does any one have one ?
I have something like 6 extra Sega Genesis systems; dozens of cords and controllers lying around...I don't think I'll spend the money.
I've got one!
While I have a shitload of Genesis systems and a Japanese MegaDrive Model 1, I'm just waiting for the FireCore, RetroGEN, GENCore and GENMobile to arrive in Canada so I can buy them locally. As much as I hate AtGames' hardware, I'm a big Sega guy, so I have to own at the very least a GENMobile and either the FireCore or GENCore.
Well The RetroGen supports Firecore technology
And I've got a RetroGen and it's the "bee's knee's" !!!!! LOL
Can hardly wait for the SDcard adapter to arrive from god knows where!
The sound is horrible. It's way off key. Doesn't look like it works with the SCD or 32X. I'm definitely sticking with my model 2.
I stopped watching in the first 10 seconds because I didn't want to listen to some mophead talk. It even looks like he has eyeshadow on. More product, less mophead!
Yeah, that's the guy associated with VG central who also did that video at the opening post of the retrogen/"new nomad" thread, I find him rather grating and annoying. (and he gets a lot wrong... "these games didn't use stereo anyway"... and that guy representing the Firebox...) Blek
Almost as bad as those Play Value guys, and they're only worse because they pretend to be experts on gaming history...
You sound like one of the old guys in the mall at 2 o'clock. "Get a damn haircut! When I was your age..."
I am really interested in this console. So it lacks SCD and 32X support, but it is hella tiny and has AV out. For $30 and 20 built in games (which we already own, but that's not the point) you can do worse. The damn Yobo is still a fortune and it is junk.
But I have the same problem as Tanegashima, I have like 5 extra Gennys sitting around. Even the one Model 2 and SCD that is out takes up way too much real estate, and I'm not going to pull the whole thing out every time I want to play Terminator.
Do the AV out and AC work on any of the original consoles? How about controller support?
Why only Genesis clones? Why can't any of these be a CDX clone? I love my Sega CD.
I should probably just get an actual CDX off ebay they're small enough.
Sega CD requires a lot more hardware to be include (not least a CD drive) plus there are already ASICs in use for the genesis/MD clones, but a new one would be needed to encorporated the CD hardware. And if they went the emulation route they'd need a more powerful (and expensive) processor, maybe more RAM, plus the CD drive. 32x would require even more power for emulation, not sure about using an ASIC though, but that would be the smallest market. There's just no money in that for them. (inless they sold the comsoles for around $100, there's no way they could be profitable in the relatively small numbers they'd be producing)
because there are emulators already. While people (and by people I mean Nintendo) piss and moan about people downloading ROMs, using clone hardware lets people play old games on new hardware. A CD-based game can be played off of the original disc on any modern computer, so the same need isn't there. IMO I think we'll start seeing multiple CD system emulator systems start coming out once the processors become cheap enough and patents expire on the PSX, Saturn, and Neo Geo CD.
the only thing i learned from that vid is that the cart slot is too tight :daze:
I wonder if the "development cart" that is coming out.. will work on a regular genesis!?
Quote:
Firecore comes with all hoookups and easily connected to any TV with the included AV connection. The Fire Core will also support soon to be released pseudo 32-bit styled Sega games via a development cart and SD card slot. So now you can keep the classic video games alive.
More than likely it will just be a RAM dump of some sort, to play Roms written specifically for the different CPU. Which I assume as well is stored on SD cards.
The firecore is nothing more than vaporware as far as I know though, I haven't paid attention.
Unless they're reviving a sega channel?
The Firecore SD cartridge will only work on Firecore compatible systems.
AKA:
Firecore Genesis
GEN Core
GEN Mobile
Retrogen
hmmm, well that's a bummer. I wonder if they'll find a way to convert standard ROMs into the firecore format like PSX2PSP converts playstation ISOs to PSP EBOOT.
Still, bummer. Dammit, I don't know why it's so hard to make a relatively cheap flash cart
I predict mediocrity for Firecore, and probable abandonment altogether.
It's a retro pump & dump scheme. I doubt anybody who actually purchased the hardware was an early adopter for 'Firecore Software' and they needed 'something flashy' to tack onto existing clone concepts.
I would much prefer they ditch giving support to whatever processor they're running on, for proper sound emulation efforts.
Ohh well, I don't care.
In that case it'd be best to just use noramal clone ASIC hardware rather than emulation, Yobo got it close to right with the FC3 plus, but that lacks compatibility for a couple games and native controller support. (not sure if it has stereo either, but very clean sound and good video I beleive)
The most practical "high-end" genesis clone would probably be just the standard clone ASIC with better quaity external audio mixing circuitry and balanced, clean video output (some of the cheaper clones have a green tinge to the video), stereo output, virtua racing compatibility, and standard controller ports. (somthing the Firecore did get right) The Genesis hardware natively outputs RGB, so at least providing that for the european market (with an included SCART cable) would probably be a plus, maybe add S-Video and/or YPbPr component output as well. (converting RGB to component uses relatively simple circuitry compared to S-Video or composite, but with composite as a given default, S-Video often isn't far off depending on the video encoder used)
They could even do a 2-in one Master System+Genesis/MD console with little change (compared to an SNES+NES console, which requires a second ASIC), probably not much reason for that in the US, but a good deal for U/Europe with the popularity of the SMS.
Well, I also hope you could put genesis roms on the sd cart (not that I condone it lol)
I want to see what the Gencore can do before I buy one of these clones.
"Details, Details."
I suppose there's comfort in knowing it's new though.
The thought of buying a used handheld is almost as gross as coming across a used TV remote labeled "Master Bedroom" when picking up a satellite receiver.
You just don't want to touch some things in the aftermarket, especially a 'dethroned' PSP. :p
nope i dont have one yet i going get one soon right after i get the genmobile handheld
I don't really get it. Why buy a cheap knockoff that doesn't even use the real hardware when you could buy a model 1 or 2 for $25? I can't stand that off key sound.
They have the Firecore for $50 and the RETRO-BIT ATGAMES Sega Genesis Portable Handheld for $55 at the Vancouver Flea Market for anyone who's interested. Saw them today.
Amen to that, I don't understand why some people here are so fucking happy that they've released yet another horrible clone console.
The handheld love i can kinda understand, but love for a clone console?
Personally i feel if you play Genesis on a clone then you're not a real Genesis fan,
because you are willing to put up with an inferior gaming experience and a horrible looking console.
And we all know the firecore64bit32bitpseudo 32bit SD card games will turn out to be PD like shit.
I pre-ordered the Gencore because I've been meaning to get rid of my Model 1. I hate using the RF adaptor and the wires are all over the place. The Gencore is going to clean up quite a bit of confusion regarding the wires and stuff behind my wall unit. . ;)
I just bought a Sega Genesis Model 1 for 5 dollars. Just need to get the proper cable and power supply, and I should be set.I will not be buying this stupid thing. Why buy an emulator system, or cheap knock off when you can have real hardware.
I understand the portable knock-offs, but not the actual console. I'm currently looking into getting a Genesis Model 2 atm.
