I'm excited for this, especially at the possibility of watching the Los Angeles Chargers :D I sure hope we don't get the Rams or Raiders, especially the Raiders, god awful owner and fans. As long as Al Davis is alive, the Raiders will continue to suck.

I'm excited for this, especially at the possibility of watching the Los Angeles Chargers :D I sure hope we don't get the Rams or Raiders, especially the Raiders, god awful owner and fans. As long as Al Davis is alive, the Raiders will continue to suck.

I really really hope LA gets the Rams :D Moving the Chargers north of Anaheim (remember, I'm a season ticket holder) would kill my relationship with the team.

I look at it like this: Football has failed in LA a number of times. I don't really get their whining.

EDIT: But hey, they were the LA Chargers 50 years ago...

I'm hoping the Phillies win the World Series :cool:

A part of me hopes so too, the Rams were started and belong in LA but chances are it's gonna be the Chargers ;) The Chargers rejected a 1 billion dollar proposal to a new stadium in the area surrounding Qualcolmm Stadium, not to a new stadium in San Diego so they could stay, they could move, it's a toss up at the moment. I think the only reason football in LA failed is the cities refusal to renovate/build a new stadium for the teams that were in LA at the time. That's why this new project is ideal, it's privately funded. Another problem was fan interest but I think that isn't a problem now. Also, they were the LA Chargers yes, but for one season.

Now that the Dodgers are knocked out, I hope so too, the only thing I hate more than a Philly is a Yankee.

The issues surrounding the Chargers and whether or not they stay in San Diego county are a lot more complicated than that. To put it bluntly, the city, not the organization, is the reason they don't have a stadium yet. In fact, when the Chargers began exploring the project of building a new stadium, the Mission Valley area was much less developed, and an ideal location for a new stadium. They co-founded a task force with the city to see if San Diego should lease the land to the Chargers. The task force was headed by one Bruce Henderson, who San Diegans know as the most pesky obstacle in developing a new sports complex (see Petco Park). Even Henderson came to the conclusion, though, that the City should lease the land to the Chargers. The location was perfect, the NFL was speaking as if San Diego would see multiple Super Bowls a decade (San Diego makes most of it's revenue through obscene hotel taxes), and Henderson concluded that the renovation to the area would only help other businesses as well.

The thing was, the Chargers weren't all that good at the time. It became REALLY unpopular for politicians to side with the Chargers, especially with the ongoing ticket guarantee debacle (the city would step in and spend millions on unsold tickets so games wouldn't be blacked out on tv). So, the city backed off, even though the deal was supported by the very people they sent out to research the project.

Since that rejection, the Chargers have gone through multiple site possibilities, from Chula Vista (ideal in my opinion) to National City, Oceanside, Escondido, and downtown San Diego. Each time the Chargers are met with seemingly insurmountable obstacles, often dealing with environmental restrictions.

The reason why the City of Industry deal is so important to all California franchises is because it sets a precedent for fast-passing through all of the environmental restrictions. The Forty-Niners, Raiders, and Chargers are all trying to get a stadium deal, so like it or not, this news is great for each franchise.

The reason I think the Rams or Raiders are more likely to end up in the City of Industry is this: the developer in LA is looking to also buy a team, and the Chargers are not on sale. The Rams, on the other hand are. Plus, in order for the Chargers to break their current lease agreement, they would have to pay the city of San Diego somewhere around $55 million this year. That number goes down each year, so in 2011 it will be somewhere around $25 million. Are they willing to pay that? And will the City of Industry be willing to wait for them.

Like it or not, the Chargers are going to end up decent this year. Will they win the West? Probably not with the way the Broncos are playing, but I'd be shocked if they didn't end up above 500. The Rams are, in my humble opinion, the worst team in the league. Therefore, they are unpopular and face even more challenges facing them in their city in developing a new stadium.

I think the Rams actually have the worst chance of coming to LA, their lease has a clause that says the stadium has to be one of the best stadiums in the NFL by 2015 so they can leave only after the 2014 season. So 60% of the team is for sale, Roski would have to find a co-investor of pony up the 20% extra for the team. Not only that, if he wants to move the team after 2015, he would have to break the lease or wait. Not only that, the Rams are awful, who wants to buy an awful team?

I still think the Chargers have a chance of coming here. I can't find it but I heard Roski is willing to pay the annual payments to move the team here. If the Chargers can't get approval even with the relaxed environmental law, there is a chance they could come to LA. It may be highly unlikely but a guy can hope.

The Raiders and 49ers are also a likely choice if they can't get a stadium(The NFL says they have to share a stadium). The Vikings are a possibility if the city doesn't follow with their demands but with their season going the way it is, I think Minnesota wont let them leave. The Bills and Jaguars have the same problem, the population shrinking and a waning fan interest so they could move too. For some reason, I think I left out a team.

EDIT: I forgot, if the Bills do move, I hear the NFL would want them to move to Toronto instead of LA. I hear the commissioner wants to expand football to an international level but I don't think other countries are interested in the sport in my opinion.

(I hate how the commentators are making a big deal out of "Yankee Stadium"... its a totally different stadium.... stats from the old one shouldn't carry over.... etc.) :daze:

I hope the Coyotes stay in Phoenix. And Crosby gets hit in the balls with a one-timer.

I hope the Coyotes and Thrashers move to cities that actually WANT a team.

And I hope Ovechkin gets hit in the face with a cross check to loosen the few teeth he has left.

Listen, Canada: the issue is not that Phoenix and Atlanta don't want teams, it's that the Coyotes and Thrashers have been abysmal and have been mismanaged since day one. I don't know if you're familiar with how they've done, but the yotes have made the playoffs 5 times in 13 years and have never won a round. The Thrashers can't even say that. It's very difficult to get people to spend their hard earned money to see their team lose night in and night out. If you look around the league, you'll see that there have been many teams who the same exact thing has happened to: Boston, NYI, Chicago, Detriot, Buffalo, Pittsburgh, Calgary, Anaheim, Tampa, etc. If Coyotes and Thrashers management would pull their heads out of their asses and try to improve the product, then maybe they could attract more people. Teams with their track record would have a tough time succeeding anywhere, including Canada (yeah, I said it).

Simple solution:

Step 1, Move the Coyotes to the hammer (Hamilton)

Step 2, Move the Thrashers to Winnipeg

Profit $$$$

moving the yotes and thrashers won't change anything about their performance. you believe that winnipeg and hamilton will faithfully support losing teams in the long term? good luck with that. i don't buy the "canada is the hockey-nirvana" theory. the jets weren't selling out every night.

We really need a sports board on here.

Funny, that's the first I heard of that. Do you have a source of is this speculation. It makes sense but I've never read or heard anything stating that the Bills would move to Toronto. If a team moves to LA , it will probably be Jacksonville, their fans don't seem to have the same dedication to the NFL that they have to the NCAA game.
