Sewer Shark is good. I also liked Night Trap... mainly for the lingerie clad college girls. :D
Who Shot Johnny Rock was okay... sorta. I didn't play the FMV that much. I preferred to spend more time playing Ecco or EWJ:SE or Sonic or Battle Corps.
Road Avenger.
Novastorm and MegaRace, but that's because they were the right kind of FMV game, the kind that uses it for good, not evil.
No, those games are evil.
Mansion of Hidden Souls.
Hmm, does Silpheed count?
If you mean on other platforms as well (again, depending on definition), Return to Zork is definitely up there.
Ground Zero Texas was mine as it actually gave the player a false sense of freedom.
Tomcat Alley
BRAM STOKER'S DRACULA! That's a FMV used the right way!
I don't know why it doesn't get more press. The only reason I know about it was because it was one of the few Sega CD games available at Play N Trade when I bought my SCD. The only reason I can think that it didn't get press back in the day was because of its late release (1994).
would mad dog mccree count? not sure of the compete definiton of fmv
Night Trap (easily the best one)
Corpse Killer
Nova Storm
almost Microcosm...
I need to try Sewer Shark again, I remember it as really bad.
If Silpheed counts, then Silpheed (I don't think it counts)
and...Fahrenheit (the first level is super fun...but it gets old after that, I don't know why the rest of the levels couldn't have been as good as the first level, especially on the more difficult skill levels, the game just gets worse. You need to beat the game on the hardest level to get the real ending too. Thank god the insruction book comes with maps of all the levels, on all the difficulties.)
On another note, what do you guys think were the worst FMV games?
I give it to Supreme Warrior.
Full Motion Video: Mad Dog is nothing but video... So I say it counts!
Sewer Sharks is definitely more for a nostalgia game for me... The game DOES get boring... But fun! And I like the characters! And the idea of this great advance over regular Genesis games... And the line in the game where is says "Relax..." (read below!) That's just cool as hell!
I'll have to check out Fahrenheit again... I know there is a 32xCD version somewhere! Never really gave it a chance!
Worst FMV?? Start a new thread!!
Why do you keep putting an "s" at the end of Sewer Shark?
32XCD version came with the vSCD version since the 32X was out already.
They put that relax line in almost all FMV games I have as the 2nd track.
Probably because of this TV show!
Yeah but what games started it?
On a side note... I saw Sewer SHARK! *ahem* at a small Thrift Store in town for $0.50... Almost got it just because, but it was pretty scratched up and no case! I wonder if I buy ALL THE SEWER SHARK GAMES in the world, then burn all but 10! Then my favorite game would be worth MILLIONS!!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!
Heh, funny you mention that, first time I heard the Sewer Shark title, this came to mind: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Street_Sharks Of Of course Sewer Shark predates that swhow... ;)
WHAT? Someone beat Fahrenheit??? HOW???
I'd really love to know. My cousin and I made it thru the 1st level, which was sweet. (I love when you break the window to escape at the end, and that weird guy is in your face: "Doing some window shopping boys?" LOL!!!)
But I thought beating the 2nd level was basically impossible. We spent forever exploring the hotel, and we even started recording what we found in each room. THEN we discovered that the goals were changing their locations, apparently randomly. So I thought beating the level was a matter of dumb luck before the time runs out.
HOW do you beat the 2nd level??? (Is the trick to record the changing locations of the goals, and narrow it down to a few select rooms that they randomly switch to? We thought of this, but didn't go on after realizing the random location changes.)
...wow
I didn't think it was hard or anything, even on hard.
I just developed a system for the 2nd level.
I would walk down each hall, for the first section, check the first door on the right, then the door on the left, then what is now the 3rd door on the right. IMHO there's almost never anything in the middle door on the right, but, you can check it later if you'd like...especially if you're on easy, when there's only two floors.
Then, for the second part of the hall (the three doors on the right, past the intersection) check the first door, then the third door, then the second door, again IMHO the middle door is rarely the one...but certainly more often here, where there is no left side door.
Always check the temperature of the door, and only go in if it's cold.
It's pretty easy.
Every time you find something, like the evil broom closet, or paint cans, whatever, you get oxygen back.
The hard part is not double checking, keeping on top of your steps, but it's completely beatable, if not perfectible every try/every skill level.
The last level I've only done on Easy, and Hard, and if you want to get a perfect on that level, it can be a bit hard on hard.
You really have to look at the manual's map every single step of the way.
I can also tell you from experience, the traps are all out of the way, and all the rats/gold (which give you oxygen) are all along the way (the way to whatever goal you're trying to reach, you'll understand if you still have the book, and have beaten the level already on easy)
You can go up for oxygen only two or three times on hard in this level...and believe me, you'll need every one.
On easy, the level's a cinch, but the real ending is on Hard mode.
It's just not cool, because the last level on hard or normal completely ruins what has been a nice, or even great FMV game that offers what just about no other game has offered.
Maybe the ending is on youtube somewhere, that'd be a better idea.
I'd like to watch all of Supreme Warrior.
lol
It seems interesting enough.
If only it had been an easy FMV game like Power Rangers...
While definatly not the best FMV game.. (or even close), I have a soft spot in my heart for Doubleswitch... something about the wierd characters.. silly premise...
its gameplay is just a Night Trap rip off really..
@PimpUigi: Thanks man! It does sound easy now that you've laid it out. I actually didn't know anyone really COULD get through this game. I mentioned my trouble with the game a couple times, with no responses, and I couldn't find even a single FAQ / walkthrough at the time. Now that you've explained it... "IT'S TIME TO SHAKE AND BAKE!"
Is Novastorm really any good? A friend of mine has that in a pile of shit games that we've never tried (we won a ton of crappy games in a huge SEGA lot a few years back). I guess by the box I just always assumed it was another, run-of-the-mill, fmv title with little to offer in terms of gameplay.
It's pretty good.
The last level is very...scary? Unfair? They just make you crash into a bunch of shit to take away your lives unjustly.
Use the upgrade system to your advantage and you can win anyway though.
Just grab the extra life power up no matter what, (it stacks the lives, even though you can only see yourself having 7)
If there's no extra life, get the main weapon power up (it's like a blue circle)
Get either of the three way shots for your original/main weapon...they're the most powerful. The brown blast shot sucks, and the dual star shots suck.
Use your limited special weapons on the boss enemies, and you'll blow through the game in no time.
Good game IMHO
Novastom on PC, PSX (and 3DO I assume, but not sure) have a slightly different primise, different intro sequence, altered power-up system (collect a number of emblems then hit an action key to select the power up), and starts you off at a check point after you die instead of in th esame place. (I think they may have removed the time limit on the bosses as well)
On top of that, there's streaming music, revised sfx, and higher quality streaming video. (with PC it's only 256 color and not full screen, but still significantly better looking than SCD -with higher framerate as well)
Isn't having a favorite FMV game like having a favorite way to be kicked in the balls? One way might be better or more creative than another, but it's still a kick in the balls.
At one time I've collected every FMV game for the SegaCD i could find, but later I kind of grew tired of them and sold them all, exept for :
Mansion of hidden souls
Dracula Unleashed
Sherlock holmes Consulting Detective
Rise of the Dragon (perhsaps not an FMV as such?)
Monkey island (Perhaps not an FMV as such too?)
Snatcher One of the best Sega CD games ther is.............!
Rise of the Dragon and Monkey Island have NO Full Motion Video at all!!!
Hmm did'nt I say just that more or less?

But grafical adventures is perhaps more appropriate to say?
My favourite FMV game it's Road Avenger. By the way, what do you think about Wirehead?
Road Avenger
Time Gal (prefer JPN version because of opening song not in US version, and of course, better cover art)
I'm with many others in this thread when I say Road Avenger. Seriously, that theme song is a winner, the attention to reflexes is fun, and the ending is just purely epic.
And seriously, who doesn't love driving into choppers? :D
Also, I actually enjoyed Time Gal for the record as well.
So far my favorite FMV game for Sega CD is Fahrenheit. Quite fun to play. :)
