I grew up watching Sesame Street, which is actually educational (numbers, letters, etc.), and teaches kids how to socialize in a friendly, healthy way. It shows people and places around the world, and I think I remember the show even having interviews with different diverse people, and learning about their jobs. No comparison! How did people ever give up quality educational programming for absolute shit like Barney!!! My future kids will NEVER watch that shit!!!

Oh and here's a link for Disney offering refunds to parents who raised their kids on Baby Einstein videos, which were marketed as educational. The refunds are because it turns out the program is NOT educational. Woops...

Don't get me started on Dora the Explorer. "Si si! you got it right" as the kids sit there like a coma patient. Blues Clues was the same shit. So awful.

That baby einstein shit was a bit ridiculous, though, both the claim that it was "educational" and the lawsuit asking for refunds because their kids were dumbasses. It takes more than a DVD box set to make someone intelligent.

What if it is a Ken Burns box set? ;)

Thanks, I thought I might be the only one complaining about kids' programming on this Genesis / Megadrive site!

Good points on Dora and Blues Clues. The worst part is that a lot of parents probably just glance at the shows, and assume they are somehow educational, and that their kids are learning something. After all, they see the characters telling their kids to sing, asking their kids questions, and apparently making them think... But nope, they're really just watching TV and zoning out most of the time!!!

You're right that everything is ridiculous with the Baby Einsteins' situation (the false marketing and the subsequent lawsuits.) I guess that show fed off of the overblown hype around classical music being related to better performance in certain situations. Hence my middle-school math teacher used to play classical music during tests, and it was cool. Relaxing during the tests if nothing else, plus it was always good for a laugh b/c it was so ridiculous. So the hype over classical music got overblown, and mothers started playing classical music 24/7 and waiting for their infants to start scribbling math equations, and the show just fed off that overblown hype.

The reason you stopped posting here was because you became a Drama Queen and got a ban hammer shoved up your ass when I was padding responses in the the 'Count to 5000' thread. You took random pictures bumping that thread to it's goal as personal drama and then proceeded to run off on everybody else.

Defends, promotes, whatever. Atheism is just another philosophy, just like all the religions are different philosophies. And who needs videos defending / promoting the different philosophies and religions, plus cutting down the other ones. Sure atheism is seen as unique and different, but all the philosophies / religions are also seen as unique and different!
