They did publish Grandia III, so that would seem a likeable prospect. They've even published Project Sylpheed as well.
I didn't mind the Taito games under Square/Enix for the record, as Space Invaders Extreme was a lot of fun, and so was Arkanoid DS in my opinion.
The freedom in Final Fantasy XII can get overwhelming at times. I have a difficult time deciding whether or not I should continue with the main storyline, take on some bounties, explore the massive cities, etc...
Worst of all (or best) is the license board. I'm so used to RPGs holding my hand through character stat development. You know, this guy is my warrior, this guy is my long-range archer, this girl is my white mage, this thing is my black mage. In Final Fantasy XII, Square Enix just says: go at it. So even though I want Baltheir to remain a long range shooter, I just can't pass up the possibility of equipping him with that super sweet spear I just found.
Walking in to an item, armor, weapon, magic, or gambit shop has never felt more like being a child in a candy store. There's just soooooo many things I want to try/do, yet I have such a limited amount of Gil. It's truly impressive.
Yes, a truly impressive game and a massive one too, no wonder why its one of the all time greats.
If you play long enough, most of your characters become pretty similar. But that's endgame, and I do like how your characters will retain individual usefulness for the beginning and middle.
they will never create a better ff game then ff9 best rpg i have ever played
Worst of the series 'in principal', it is more playable than some of the older ones or the spin offs.
They threw a simplified skill system, Chibi designs, and a lack of 'anything new' into what's almost an entirely 'stolen' plot. All for a quick cash grab rather than progressing the series in a meaningful direction.
I'm seriously surprised Square got away with the Plagiarism:
Dragon Ball & DBZ: Protagonist is secretly sent to planet to destroy it as a child. Protagonist gets amnesia & is raised to be a good guy & defend the planet against evil. Protagonist also has monkey tail & will one day battle his new-found evil brother sent to finish the job he has failed at doing.
Final Fantasy 9: Protagonist is secretly sent to planet to destroy it as a child. Protagonist gets amnesia & is raised to be a good guy & defend the planet against evil. Protagonist also has monkey tail & will one day battle his new-found evil brother sent to finish the job he has failed at doing.
I thought that most of the original Squaresoft members kinda went to the background (or left) after the merger with Enix. IMO, the question should be Enix then vs now. Since squaresoft pretty much got swept under the rug as we remember it after the merger.
I dont know..I like the older and newer games equal. Really enjoying FF12 been stuck for a while now. just getting back into it.
I think their pre-PSX titles (excepting Chrono Trigger & FFIII/VI) are so antiquated as to be nearly unplayable these days. RPGs as a whole don't tend to age very well. The early games are especially boring, because the gameplay remained exactly the same for 6 titles.
I like most of their SNES games. FF 2/4 is still good, aside from the poor translation. Super Mario RPG is excellent. Secret of Mana and Secret of Evermore are both great. If you count imports (that have since been translated), FF5, Front Mission, Bahamut Lagoon, Live A Live, Seiken Densetsu 3, and the Romancing Saga games are all good. On Game Boy, Final Fantasy Legend II is awesome, and I like Final Fantasy Adventure more than its remake. Mystic Quest isn't so hot, but other than that they had a rather good record. What don't you like?
I think Secret of Evermore is maybe Square's most underrated game. Sure, it's a funny little American game based on the Seiken Densetsu style of play, but I loved the atmosphere. Maybe the reason I liked the game so much was because it was so different from the big three - Secret of Mana, Chrono Trigger, and Final Fantasy III (6).
I just installed FFXI on to my PS3 since I retired my old PS2. I cant believe Playonline still charges to play the game even for PS3 and Xbox360 users. That is so retarded I think that when a game as old as FFXI should be free.
Is there going to be charge for FF13 multiplayer?
