You are soooo looking to be banned!!! :)
I still haven't bought Super Castlevania IV on the virtual console, despite getting the others. It's holds no nostalgic value for me whatsoever and never impressed me back in 1991.
Does anybody know if they altered anything in porting it?
That is objectively wrong. Symphony of the Night is a great game. Castlevania 64 is a turd sandwich.

you're a turd sandwich.
SOTN is a confusing item collection catastrophe. CS 64 is pretty damn immersive IMO.
I liked CV 64 and Legacy, I think the reason a lot of people don't like CV64 is because it tends to shift between classic platforming sections and parts that seem Resident Evil inspired like the Villa.
I just like that (at least the first one) maintains the whip whereas SOTN has you using all kinds of other bullshit weaponry. If there's not a whip, it's not Castlevania, period. CV 64 is one of the few "wander around" games I can actually enjoy, probably because it does it right like Mario 64 (find one item, move on, find another item, move on, not sit around collecting 20,000 items and not have a clue what to do).
Hey, to each his own and all that happy horseshit, but what???????
How on earth did you find SotN confusing? I'm starting to wonder how good at video games you can possibly be...
You know to jump over that first goomba in Super Mario Bros, right? In Mega Man 2, repeatedly fire your arm cannon to kill those carrot-shooting rabbits in Wood Man's stage. Try holding the direction pad in the corresponding direction to make turns in Super Mario Kart.
And in Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, quickly check your stats each time you come upon a new weapon or piece of clothing. If your attack and/or defense numbers improve with this new item, equip it!
Exactly. There's really nothing confusing about it. The only way that you could really be confounded by SotN is if you have no idea how a map works. You don't "wander aimlessly," your path is pretty finely delineated.
And there is a whip in the game, so that criticism is moot as well. Symphony of the Night is an excellent game, if you hate it well all I can say is "your loss," really.
Symphony of the Night is probably one of the most perfect games ever created. The graphics, gorgeous. The music, fantastic. The control, impeccable. The gameplay, addictive.
As far as the level design goes, it's slightly less intuitive that the original games, but whenever an item is REQUIRED for progression, you'll never find it too far from where you need it (except for those two rings).
Don't forget its spectacular voice acting :)
Getting back on topic. CV-4 was good, but not even close to as awesome as people made it out to be. I mean 8 way attack is commonly used to define the game, but I found a few issues with the game.
1. The music
The games music is always hailed as being awesome. I didn't find it. There was 1 and ONLY 1 actually memorable song. That was the first song in the game, but it didn't last. Every other song, even the remade classic songs sound like a random compendum of SNES instruments.
2. Gameplay
Same Castlevania we know and love only with 8 way attack. This however is not very impressive since the game actually incorporates this into the gameplay itself. While nice to have, it pretty much might as well have to old whip attack for all anyone cares. So nice to have but not necessary. However it does make the game slightly better.
3. Graphics
CV-4 is noted for having overly excellent graphics. The graphics are pretty decent. However only Simon's sprite is the only one that actually looks good. The other sprites look... wierd. I don't know how to explain it, but all the enemies look skinny or just plain "off". Graphics are good, but the sprites look wierd.
Overall CV-4 is pretty good, but not the Jesus Christ of CV all the SNES fans claim it to be. About as good as the classic castlecania era games. Compares to Bloodlines and Chi no Rondo with its good mechanics, but that's all there is to this incarnation of CV.
As for Symphony of the Night. Taking into account the fluid controls, graphics, music and the fact that it has skeletons with crotch lasers, I have to say that there is no way anyone who has actually played it can say it sucks. As for CV-64... No.
