I made a backup on another part of my primary hard drive, on my backup harddrive, and even uploaded it to my angelfire account for safe keeping. While I see why they would pull the emulator off the app store, I still see Apple as being their own worst enemy with the platform.
Thousands upon thousands of apps flooding them for approval has essentially crippled any incentive for developers to jump on the Apple bandwagon.
The ridiculous profits that 'can' be made is offset by Apple's slowness to respond to 'updating' it's software, and there's almost always a clone app ready to jump up to the task. They really need to overhaul their approval system before more developers end up leaving.
I wouldn't want an app on the appstore, to have some critical bug discovered, and patch it just to have Apple sit on the update for random months, while customers crucify my brand. This is the critical flaw Apple has designed and sticks with; it comes with a sense of favoritism.
The 3GS is already 'Ancient' in terms of hardware, and I don't see it holding up for a half-year run to July without some solid details about it's successor in January. Next month should be awesome. (Apple Tablet?)
how is the 3GS ancient? Hell, it runs the web browser better than a 2 year old desktop. The better games have graphics comparable to a PS2, which is fucking crazy for a phone. Remember as well, it is a phone, I don't think high end 3D capabilities is really the selling point for most people. I find the sound quality very good as well, I guess the people that complain about it just don't have good coverage.
I do agree with the app approval thing, I think it's more about trying to keep buggy/virus ridden/spamming apps out, but bug fixes need to have an express lane IMO. Then again, I think developers should test their shit more before unloading it on Apple only to find out it's buggy later. I have a game right now that I basically can't play because when I load a save file the screen is shifted so far to the right I can't play it. Who knows when an update will come to fix it. Not that I care at the moment, as Driver and the NES emulator are rocking my world.
I do wish, however, that Apple would back off on the emulator torch and pitchforking. There is nothing fundamentally illegal about emulators, especially of patent-expired hardware, and they don't distribute any ROMs. Saying emulators should be illegal because they can play NES games is like saying a PC should be illegal because it can play bootlegged PC games or Air Sharing should be removed because someone could put a PDF of an eBook they didn't pay for. It's the unauthorized use of game files you aren't entitled to that is legally questionable here, and that is nothing the maker of the app nor Apple is responsible for.
It's ancient because Moore's Law is a significant proponent in the mobile device industry today. 6 Month cycles seem to be the standard.
There are 1ghz or better processors in use across all competing platforms right now, and I wouldn't be surprised if the Apple tablet shows up with a dual core atom or something equivilent in a few months.
The iPhone's hardware is ancient, I wouldn't buy one halfway through it's yearly life cycle without significant cost reductions in one form or another. (better contracts, or subsidies)
The likely good thing though, is that if Google does what it 'can and likely will do next year', Apple will probably shuffle their game plan and step-up with some of these ideas to attract consumers.
I own an iphone and really regret getting it. It's my second smartphone (Palm Treo before this) and, while I appreciate the functionality (maps, looking up recipes while at the grocery store, banking, stocks), it's really not worth the cost. With what I pay on monthly fees I could buy a 17" Macbook Pro, and probably broadband and skype account as well.)
With the device itself my biggest complaints are 1) that they break a lot (I'm on my third replacement), and 2) as a *phone* it's really crappy (dropped calls, dropped calls, no service, dropped calls).
My next phone will be a basic pre-paid and nothing more.

C) I know people that beat the hell out of their iPhones and never break them. Crack the screen, sure, but it still works. Sounds like you need either a case or to be more careful or both. Mine has never given me problems a reboot didn't solve aside from an occasional buggy app (the stock apps always work without a hitch). Everyone at work spare one employee has an iPhone, and none of them have broken one, not even being thrown around in a shop (engineering company).
D) I think I've had 1 dropped call, ever, and I was inside a building within several walls. This problem seems to be more that ATT has shitty coverage in your area. My only problem is shitty 3G availability on campus and at peak hours, mostly due to all of the iPhone traffic. Edge has always been there, though.
