Repaired my Saturn, now where do I go from here?
Hello all, aaaaggggggeeesssss ago I got a Sega Saturn for cheap, it came with control pad, Alien 3, RF cable and power lead.
I plugged it in and it didn't work, what a shit...
The power supply was dead and I wasn't motivated to look at it any further. It was going to be binned then I thought I would keep it for parts.
Anyway I got a Saturn from my local Game Traders to look at and one of it's pins for the AC looked damaged, so I thought I would switch the AC socket with the one from mine. I de-soldered one leg of the AC socket in mine and the socket fell off! AH there's the fault the 2nd leg was broken, so adding my own leg to the AC socket had my Saturn up and running! Sweet! I also got the Game Traders one going as well.
Now I am thinking of getting a mod chip for it and an Action Replay thing. I am also considering adding a 50/60Hz switch. If I get the the Action Replay thing is it necessary to do the region switch/es as well or since the Action Replay thing plays other region games this would be unnecessary work?
As usual getting everything from the USA is cheaper than getting it in my own country (Australia)....... :? Which leads to this comment, sorry for asking these questions but I think the Saturn was even less popular here than it was in the States.
I have modded my saturn a bit by fitting my own AV sockets and S-video sockets, which I am more than happy with. The RF lead I found out later (ah well) the plug is not sealed and can be pulled apart, and has the pins for composite video and stereo sound. So I cut the RF lead off and added my own yellow, white, red plug and leads and it works fine. I will keep this as a test set..;)
