And I got Nights for it. I like it, but it seems that there is almost nothing worth buying for the machine. I bought it as a Christmas gift for the family so this isn't my fault, but if there's a game system in the house I need to play it. So is there anything good for the thing?
You should definitely look into New Super Mario Bros. Wii. I've heard it's really good and I've been wanting to try it out (I don't have a Wii but my brother does). Some other games you should check it are Super Paper Mario, Super Mario Galaxy, Punch-Out, No More Heroes, Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Zack & Wiki.
Super Mario Bros. Wii is astonishingly good. It's mostly Mario 3 with hints of world and the original SMB thrown in. It's everything a Mario game should be. Thus far, it's the only game for the Wii that I found worthwhile (haven't played paper mario or galaxy yet though).
There's tons to enjoy! If you want to stick to the best, there's a ton of Nintendo releases that are worthwhile. ApolloBoy and 17days are right on the money, New Super Mario Bros. Wii is a gift from the gaming heavens, something of a dream game.
Besides New Super Mario Bros. Wii, Super Mario Galaxy is the best game available on the Wii. Yes, it's another Mario game, but it's absolutely excellent and plays, obviously, nothing like New Super Mario Bros. Wii. Two very different experiences.
Metroid Prime Trilogy is an incredible value and plays amazing, SSBBrawl and Mario Kart Wii are fun additions to excellent series' (small steps backwards, but still worthwhile), and Twilight Princess is the most ambitious Zelda yet.
As for third-party stuff, the rail-shooter genre is very well accounted for. If you enjoy the genre, House of the Dead 2 & 3, House of the Dead Overkill, RE Umbrella Chronicles, RE Darkside Chronicles, Ghost Squad, and Dead Space Extraction are all damn fine games. And pretty much all of those can be individually purchased for less than $30.
Resident Evil 4 Wii is by far the best version of one of the best games ever made, Zack & Wiki is way better than it should be, Madworld and No More Heroes are guilty pleasures, and a Boy and His Blob may be the most beautiful sprite based game I've ever played.
The Wii doesn't have everything. There's an embarrassment of riches on the PS3 and 360 in terms of mature games. Arkham Asylum, Gear of War, Modern Warfare 2, Fallout, Mass Effect, God of War, etc... all aren't available on the Wii, and there's little comparable. As a compliment to those other consoles though, the Wii is fantastic. Again, you just don't see games like New Super Mario Bros. Wii anywhere else, and it's worth owning just for that reason.
Hope the purchase works out for you. Remember, NiGHTS isn't a representation of the Wii as a whole.
If you like shmups(especially ones with obscene amount of bullets), look up Castle Shikigami 3.
Geometry Wars Galaxies is also good.

I'll get it, I'm just waiting for the price to drop a little. I'm not as huge on 3D mario games as 2D ones. Mario 64 was pretty cool for its time, but it is hugely overrated, I don't know what people are smoking to give it as much acclaim as it's been getting since being re-released on the VC. Mario is a 2D game just like Sonic is a 2D game and the gameplay needs to stay in that realm. Either keep it hi-res 2D or 2.5D, I don't care, just keep the gameplay flat.Quote:

Yea, not much on the Wii that isn't somewhere else + better, but still actually worth playing.

Oh yea, I now understand about Sonic not speaking.
I've always known speaking in play is bad. IE GBA-LTTP, and GBA-Yoshi's Island; Link screaming every half second, and Yoshi taking a crap in the middle of the air...just doesn't work.
Sonic needs to be silent as he plays, and have cool sound effects. No one minds voices in a video scene, but during play we shouldn't have to listen to "wahoooooo!" over and over again.
Maybe keep the Sonic CD voices. "Yes!" "All right!" and "I'm outta here!"

For those interested, it helps ALOT to have the propeller hat when facing the final castle. It is actually really difficult to run under bowser so you're better off just wall jumping and propeller capping over him. On that note, the Mega Man X style wall jumping was a really cool addition.
