Could someonne program all 6 MM games on the Genesis..like what Yuki Naka did with Dr Mario on the MD
But Config the Contoler A=B B=A
I asl bet someone could also program the GB Mega Man Games with the NES version

Yes, if someone created a game engine that could handle all the events of all the games, then you would just have to develop the levels via a script/map editor. Maybe some interpreted logic script for bosses. It's still quite a bit of work, but since there are quite a few megaman fans out there, there's a higher chance that someone might do this. It also means then could create new games using the engine (or even Megaman 7-9). It's not bad idea at all and I'm a Megaman fan... but probably not *that* much of a fan. If ElBarto finishes his Genesis video/sound library for GCC, then this will be much more of a reality (GCC means coding in C for the Genesis). I really like this idea though :)
I mean the NES Mega Man Games..I prolly would be easy for someone who knew the Genesis & NES inside & out
I wonder if somebody can make a program that can converts NES games to Genesis games. That'll be pretty cool.

No Source Code = not an easy job.
There already are three and a half MM games on MD/G. Plus an unofficial port of Megaman X.
In case of Rockman Megaworld aka Wily Wars I disagree. It's an excellent port of the first three MM games with rockin YM2612 music.
A MM/NES emulator for MD/G+SCD would look like this btw:

so you could as well just play it on NES, or Wii, or Dreamcast, or PC.
If somebody really does make an NES emulator on the Genesis, I doubt it will use 40cell mode.
I'm kidding I love all 2D MM games before the PSX
What's 40cell Mode??
A nes emulator would be a very welcome addition to the Sega library,
I mean who wouldn't want all their favorite Nes games on 1 flashcard on their favorite system.
but the Genesis just doesn't have the cpu power to emulate the Nes correctly.
(prove me wrong by writing one guys! :p )
I think you'd be better off by reverse engineering all 6 roms and recreating the source code.
then you could have 1 dedicated interpretor that will run just those 6 roms.
But i'm no programmer, so what do i know.
heh, I'd prefer a GG emulator (that magically remaps the colors to the MD palette) ^ ^
That's all I'm asking..But I think Capcom lost the source codes for the NES versions :(Quote:

Well I hear they lost the GB code..that's why they couldn't do a MM collection for the GBA, or Capcom didn't want to do it for the GBA
What do you mean by "reverse engineering" and "Recreating"
The Sega Genesis VDP has 2 graphic modes.
32cell mode:
resolution: 256x224 or 256x240
maximum sprites: 64
max sprites on scanline: 16
max sprite pixels per scanline 256
40cell mode:
resolution: 320x224 or 320x240
maximum sprites: 80
max sprites on scanline: 20
max sprite pixels per scanline 320
Even if you were to get an emulator running at proper speed, the sound from the NES games would be fucked up beyond belief.
Its never been stated what game Naka got running on his supposed NES emulator for Mega Drive. They just mentioned that he got one running on the MD, nothing more.
I was almost sure I read somewhere that it was Super Mario Bros. he got running on the Genesis. I believe it even had a quote from Naka himself, but I don't remember where I saw it. It would make sense though, as I believe I saw a Sonic retrospective video series where Yuji Naka says he used to play a lot of Super Mario Bros., and that one of his ideas for Sonic was that if you made the character and gameplay faster (going from point A to point B in 10 seconds as opposed to 30), you'd increase the challenge and the reward felt. I'll see if I can find that video.
Edit: Here's the video. At 3:15 he starts talking about Mario and how he wanted to make Sonic a faster paced game. Still trying to find that quote though...
Anyway, I'd love to see Mega Man on Genesis (even through his first three games actually are). I'd also love to see a good port of the Mega Man X series after hearing an awesome Genesis-sounding rendition of X3's intro stage music. But unless someone's got a lot of time and dedication, I don't see it ever happening :(
Back on topic. If someone disassembled the megaman games for NES with source and complete comments, then the subroutines could be easily re-written into 68k assembly. But the problem is, you first have to do that. That's not an easy process. As far as music being converted over, I don't see that as a big problem. Most NES MML style sound systems are fairly easy to understand and are cross compatible with the Genesis sound system - albeit with an FM sound to it. Might even be possible to do a low sound emulation of the PSG unit (software mix some simple waveforms with dividers). I know the NES system in/out pretty well and the I know the Genesis system fairly well too. But that doesn't make it easy. The hard part is taking apart the original game's logic and understanding it. The easier part would be to write the game logic code on the Genesis side.
Then there's the alternate approach. Observe the game in much detail and try to replicate it from that. It's not 100% in gameplay mechanics like the above method would ensure, but it might be close enough. Anyway, like I've say - I like this idea. And like I said previously, you can also make whole new megaman games using that engine (make it an open source project). I have megaman 1 running on the PC-Engine and I have plans to eventually do an SGX version for upgraded graphics. The advantage I have there is, is that I can get the original NES code to run almost 100% with just a few small hooks to the graphic routines. Doing a Genesis project would be more challenging. Maybe a hybrid type system - part 65x emulation and part 68k replacement subroutines. That way you don't have to emulation the video hardware - but just replace the tile/tilemap/sprite routines.
If Super Mario Bros. could be made, Mega Man 1 - 6 can (If someone does it)
Put the Genesis MM1-3 Music n it
the Super Mario Bros port only happened because someone spend a lot of time reverse engineering the Mario rom,
so if you want a Megaman 1/6 port you better start reverse engineering asap.
Seriously, we already told you what was needed to do this, yet you don't seem to want to truly understand how much work that actually is.
So you can bump this post all you want and say that someone should do it,
but that won't make it happen.
Don't get me wrong, i would love to see all six Megaman's on Genesis,
preferably with Wily Wars art, but its a shitload of work.
A SHITLOAD OF WORK AND TIME.
