Yet another Play N Trade Thread

Hi folks! David J. here again and today I went to a Play N Trade that I haven't been to in about a year in Virginia, and I noticed they had some nice looking Dreamcast games - nothing I already don't own, so I didn't buy anything. However, I saw the prices where odd compared to another PnT that is closer to me. I saw they wanted $30 for Sonic Adventure 2 when I've seen it a few times at the closer PnT for $8. Again, I got the game at a Goodwill in San Antonio for $5 MINT so who cares?

Just wondering if each store can set up their own prices, or if there is a central system each store goes off of.

Since Play N Trade isn't a franchise, rather it's family-owned (People can buy a Play N Trade store, similar to what Ray Crock Originally did with McDonald's) so they can make up their own prices.

Funny that you mention Goodwill. They are just as varied in their pricing. I have five of their stores within a half hour of my house, and they sell NES carts from $1 a piece all the way up to $5 each. I have seen CIB Genesis games selling for $2 at one store and cart-only games going for $5 at another. Makes no sense either that they are pricing common sports titles like Madden and NHL97 higher than Phantasy Star II in one case. I wrote their headquarters once, but never got an answer back.

I figured... too bad they had nothing else of note that I wanted to buy. I don't make it up to that area often, but oh well.

As for Goodwill, this was back when I was in Tech School, back around March/April of '08. I went one week and they wanted like $10 for a poor condition copy of Pod Speedzone, and then they had a copy of SA 2 MINT for $5.

I remember SA2 being near $30 5-6 years ago.

My trade in took some of the sting out of it as I had something that was worth quite a bit trade-in wise, but nothing could take the sting out of how boring the game got.

I dunno, but it beat the time I went to the goodwill in Class B and this retired guy asked me quite a bit about the Air Force.

San Antonio had a lot of retired Air Force.

You mean, it IS a franchise. ;) Opposed to a chain store. (that's the distinction between franchise and chain, a franchise is independently owned, they just pay a licence and associated fees)

I did a bit of shopping yesterday and picked up 2 Saturn games (Panzer Dragoon and Doom) both with manuals, but in DVD cases for $9.00 each. There is a shop not to far from home called Gamerz. They sell retro stuff, the place was open but no lights on. Had a look around and through the haze of laughing to myself.

All these consoles had a layer of dust on them.

having worked for a Play N Trade, I can kindly tell you all to STFU and stop asserting speculations all over the place.

It is a franchise, meaning you buy the license to be a "Play N Trade" and have to comply with certain format rules and regulations (even down to what kind of coloring is allowed on the logo: they don't want you to print the logo in grayscale if its on a black and white document, lmfao, who cares!?). That said, you kind of have free range with how you set it up and how you price it. Most games have a price in the computer system, though at least 80% of the retro games are generically priced based on what system and whether or not it's a sports game (old sports games are recommended to be 99¢). Rare/valuable/fanboyed games like Mario games, Final Fantasy/Square games, etc. are usually recommended to be sold for more and are somewhat market priced like newer games are. You don't have to use their recommended prices, however, you can slap anything you want on there, it is up to the franchisee to decide. The dipshit owner insisted that Greatest Hits FF VII was worth $70 disc-only when it sold all day for about $50 online. At the same time, he refused to increase the price on a CIB/mint SNES 2 with Yoshi's Island that he was giving away for about $70, even though it was easily worth $100+. I know you're thinking "you idiot, why would you tell him to hike up prices!?" but it's because he was functionally retarded and always tried to cheap me out of my pay because he wasn't making any money, so I figured if I could get his prices right and make it profitable he would be more lenient when it came time to write my check. Long story short, I would never work for that douchemotron ever again, ever.

Why would anyone in their right mind buy a SNES 2 for a $100 or $70dls for that matter?....
First of all, the SNES2 is the rubbish of them all, doesn't have s-video, RGB and it isn't fully compatible with the game genie among other factors...What a Joke :shame: !...

Isn't PS II usually more rare and expensive than that those sports games? Why would write the hQ in regards to that?

I can't understand for the life of me why anyone spends their money that place. There are far cheaper ways of getting games.

I remember how excited I was to see a Play N Trade open up across from my neighborhood.....Its just to bad the owner was an absolute moron and the store was just an epic fail.

Problem was, the idiot was sandwiched in between a wal mart, target, and 3 gamestops on the same road within a 10 mile radius.

The other major problem was that he tried to be gamestop jr. but without the selection or even new releases on release date. One of the disgruntled employees there told me he would actually go to wal mart, buy the games on release date, and then try to sell them for $5 more than everyone else to make a profit......

Needless to say, the store didnt even last a year.....Its a shame, I did find a few decent deals and it was the only place in town that sold classic games....

I said CIB/Mint right before it. It had everything in great condition in the original box with Yoshi's Island (pack-in game). yoshi's island alone is worth like $25 loose (if you compare to online prices+shipping)

maybe where you live, there is never anything remotely worthwhile at goodwills, pawn shops, and there really aren't any flea markets around here. Here, it's either Play N Trade or a mom n pop computer store, and the mom n pop flat prices all of their games so the good ones get snatched and sold on eBay and nothing but super common games remain.
