It's only a matter of time until the Jonas Brothers expansion set comes out.
More proof that they peaked in 1995. I used to like Green Day quite a bit. Actually, I still enjoy their earlier material. These days, I couldn't like them less.
Exportable song list = day 1 buy for me
I was wondering why all this crap from 21st Century Breakdown was being released instead of Dookie.
band got pretty awful, wish this music game fad would die already
I am just so happy that some great bands are finally getting the attention they deserve. First, The Beatles, Now, Green Day. I have to say up front that no band will ever top my love for the Beatles, but I have to admit that Green Day is really good. Especially their spin-off albums like Foxboro Hot Tubs and The Network : Money Money 2020.
Isn't Green Day that one band with the really emo lead singer who wears mascara like a girl? I can't think of even one of their songs for the life of me.
I liked them up until Insomniac too. I have to admit I've enjoyed their side project bands as well, especially The Network.
As the one guy here who doesn't understand all of the hate towards current Green Day (I think they sound the same as their early years. Perhaps that's because I never was a huge fan, but that's my opinion), I'll just respond to this:
Are you implying, sir, that the Beatles and Green Day don't already receive attention? Because that would be absurd! Next thing you'll be saying is that there's this interesting guy that we should all know about named Jesus ;)
As a general rule I turn my nose up toward bands that want to sing politics.
That's great.
I always wondered why we had no Green Day songs in earlier games, and I would very much buy this instead of that GH Van Halen crap (no songs from the Hagar era, heresy).
Kurt Cobain was never even that great IMO. Definitely note worthy, but that era was so fucking awesome and very few bands get the respect they deserve. At least Dinosaur Jr. is finally getting some props. I really wish music today was even close to what it was from ~89-95.
especially when they sing it without at least a metaphor. "don't want to be an American idiot" oh wow, did you come up with that all by yourself?
because Van Hagar sucked!
I like Nirvana, I have their CD's, but they are not one of my favorite bands.
I like Smashing Pumpkins way, way more...but really only their first 3 albums.
As for Greenday, never really cared for "Nimrod" quit listening to them after that (aka found better things I was actually interested in to listen to).
The days of good music are gone. There existed days before these electronic hoo-dickies that made William Hung sound like Buddy Holly. Green Day is no different than the screamo bands that populate Hot Topic that suck but nobody admits it. The olden days of rock+the early 90s were the age of good music not this sex, beat your woman and sex lyrics that we hear all the time.
Nasally Vocals + Basic & Predictable Chord Progressions.
Kind of like the Canadian band GOB, They started out wanting to be 'punk', and ended up being creators of soulless pop rock.
The thing about Green Day though is the singer's become a stereotype. A man pushing 40, wearing eye shadow & singing pop songs about being alone or confused.
So you're saying that Green Day hasn't "matured" with age.
They've matured in that they've lost the mindless aggression of youth. All they have left in the gas tank is introspective contradiction with their lyrics & cliche pop rock progressions with their music.
I think half the reason they're popular is the same as Nirvana; Their songs are so basic that any 14 year old n00b guitar player can bang out a half-assed cover over a weekend, and think their shit no longer stinks amongst their peers.
Personally I can only think of about 5 songs from Green Day that I'd want to play in RB. I'll be waiting for it to drop down to nothing and export the songs.
Bring on the rumored Queen: Rock Band!
Needed an excuse to post this.
The only punk band that matters, Vancouver, Canada's D.O.A.... punk before the mohawks, chains and all that commercialized shit.
Yep... seems like the exact same band that every kid in the world loved back when they released "good ridance". Silly me, I thought that nasally vocals + basic and predictable chord progressions was always their thing.
As for the eyeliner etc... That's a problem with rock in general.
Added:
Not all rockers mature as well as my current favorite:

Hell, even Metallica is still screaming about death, pain, and other morbid topics. The industry as a whole is just stuck in a rut.
Okay, examples.
Two of their hits, the former from Dookie, the latter from their new album.
They were never exactly hardcore punk, but I would consider their older stuff to fall under the punk category. Their new stuff, no. I have a pretty inclusive conception of punk; I think punk branches out into many different styles and can take many different influences. It doesn't have to sound like the Sex Pistols to be punk. However, newer Green Day just isn't punk, and neither are most so-called "pop punk" bands that have sprouted up in the last 10 years (not that there's no such thing as pop punk, there is, but most bands these days that are called as such really aren't). For one, it's way overproduced.
But is something worthless because it doesn't fit within a certain genre? Do they even claim that their music is punk anymore? Shit, I like Load and ReLoad by Metallica even though it most certainly isn't "metal".
Green Day certainly doesn't claim to be "punk music" but they claim to be influenced by Punk or have some "Punk mentality" in the music.
Billie Joe has said numerous times Green Day's sound is "Green Day" and they mix punk, power pop, ska and alternative rock.
Mike Dirnt is a great bass player and Tre cool is a great drummer. No one can argue that against them. Billie Joe isn't the best guitar player by any means but he never claimed to be either. He writes all the music and he has a really good voice IMHO. They are a great band live. Always have been one of the best because of their energy on stage, crown interaction and BJ's voice is usually quite good live.
Now if you like their new style or not is easy to understand. Yes they changed their sound after Insomniac. They all agreed after Insomniac that they wanted to change. I personally like the Nimrod sound. I grew up with Green Day and I have every one of their albums from 1,039/Smoothed Out Slappy Hours to 21st Century Breakdown. I truly loved the new sound with Nimrod. But despite the 3rd change with American Idiot I had hoped the black make up was part of the "show" that was American Idiot.
American Idiot was a good album. Over played to hell and back but a good album nevertheless. I have to admit as a long time fan who loved the change from the Dookie era to the Nimrod era... I was kinda upset to see the makeup stay on with 21st Century Breakdown. American Idiot was a show. The album was a show from begging to end and everything from their look that went along with it should have ended when American Idiot ended.
21st Century breakdown is a decent album with some good songs on it. But it feels to me like American Idiot Part 2. Yet I thought American Idiot was just an "experiment" like a one shot deal meant to be a show with an end.
If you like Green Day's Nimrod sound but aren't digging the new stuff you need to check out "Foxboro Hot Tubs" as its just Green Day under another name. Their album "Stop Drop and Roll" is filled with fast, quick punchy songs. I much preferred it to American Idiot part 2!
They also did an album under the name "The Network" called "Money Money 2020" that is a mix of electronic pop/new wave. Check that out if you really want something different!
I like Holiday and American Idiot, but other than that, I don't see why they deserve their own game, especially when this privilege has only been given to the Beatles.
Sadly for me, Nimrod is where they sound the most repetitive. Uptight just isn't enough to save the album. I honestly prefer Warning to it, just for the lack of that pretentious epicness from Nimrod.
After that American idiot was OK, but I only felt some genuine life from the band while hearing to a couple of tracks from Shenanigans.
Don't forget Van Halen, a good band for this would be Dokken, but NOT GREENDAY.
I actually prefered the non-acoustic original version of "Good Riddance" over the more popular acoustic version.
And "Dookie" is an album I'm required to own...because it reminds me of Freshman year of HS.
Foo Fighters "Colour and the Shape" is the other, that reminds me of the summer of 1997.
Isn't U2 supposedly getting a game as well?.... I already can see myself singing and acting like Bono :ok: ...
...
Will the game come with clear tinted glasses and a massive dose of pretentiousness?
I demand Guitar Heroine: Spice Girls now!
Music games are like the platformers of yore, only worse.
