I still don't understand how someone can consider this "phoned in". The fact is, dozens of games are released each year in which their main selling point is their visuals. Nothing else, just visuals. These games garner so much attention that it's sickening, and most of the time they end up just being recycled experiences.
So when a game comes out, in 2009, and can sell well because of the ideas it offers and the polished gameplay it presents, while at the same time deliberately ignoring gamers desire for flashy visuals, that's something special.
