Sega CD refuses to hold a save.

Hey everybody, I did a search on this topic but was unable to find any results, so sorry if this has already been asked before. Anyway, my Sega CD refuses to hold a save. Whenever I boot up my system I get a message saying the ram needs to be reformatted, and all of my save games are missing. My assumption is that the save battery inside the system is toast, but know next to nothing about replacing one.

Does anyone here on the site perform the service for some extra coin, or are there any workarounds I can use involving the ram cart?

I've been dying to get some Lunar in and this is making things difficult. :?

RAM cart is easiest, but expensive.

The save battery is near impossible to find as it's a mutant 3-legged thru-hole monster. I believe it would be easier to cut out the battery and install a battery seat with some normal AAs or something and wire to the points on the board. I just use the RAM cart, though, but one day I might give it a shot.

I thought that I had read before that you have to manually transfer saves from your system to the cart, is that true? If so, it would be difficult for me to do so as my saves won't stay in the internal memory long enough for that to be an option.

If not though, and I can just save directly to the cart, then I'm all over it.

it depends on the game, most games require a transfer, but fear not, if you simply save it to the internal memory (make sure to let it finish saving! lol) and reset your console (reset button or power off/power on) you're saves will still be there and you can add the saves to the RAM cart in the system BIOS. RPGs typically let you save straight to the cart AFAIK, so if that's what you want to play, I think you've found your solution.
