Demon's Crest is overrated

I don't understand all the good reviews this game gets. It is BORING, BORING BORING! None of the levels have any creativity, all of the levels are just a solid background with enemies placed around it, just like everyother generic platform. Don't expect any spiked ceiling falling on top of you, or being squashed between 2 walls, there's none of that stuff because the backgrounds don't move.

Then there is the bosses. Don't expect to find a boss that will dig holes in the ground over a bottomless pit, or have 4 waterfalls of lava, falling at random times. It's just the basic, move around in pattern and spew out a few projectiles every few seconds.

The only redeaming quality of this game is that it looks good in screenshots and how the music was realistic sounding. Of course, when I listen to music, I pay more attention to the actual music than how many bits there are per sample.

It's got the atmosphere, rock solid game play that's a change up from Ghouls N Ghosts' formula, and very nice graphics and sound.

Expecting to be 'blown away' by a game that never found mainstream success isn't a good way to jump into anything.

It's certainly not overrated.

As a Gargoyle's Quest and Ghouls and Ghosts fan I thoroughly enjoyed it.

As said before, it looks and sounds quite good, and the gameplay is solid enough. I don't understand faulting the game for things you personally believe should be in it, and not what it offers.

It's not the best game of all time, but you could do far worse on the SNES.

I really enjoyed the Gargyole's Quest games (the first one anyway) and was expecting something like that but with more polish and use of the superior hardware. So this was a bit of a letdown for me.
It starts out pretty cool with the zombie dragon fight and being able to fly around the world but after you've been to the first town it loses focus and gets boring.
Also, I didn't like how you could miss some gems and not go back to fetch them.

Compared to Mario, Sonic and Rocket Knight Adventure series it seems to lack depth in level design. Maybe it's just that I spent a lot of time playing New Super Mario Wii, that it made Demon's Crest look pale in comparison.

I dunno, I really like the Gargoyle's Quest series so I may be a bit biased. If anything, this game gets a big plus for looking so nice.

I'm a fan of the game as well. I thought pacing was on par with the other two Gargoyles Quest games.

I liked it. It started out kind of slow, but once you start getting the different transformations it starts getting a lot better.

The music? Great. The graphics? Very nice. The challenge level? Tough, without being unfair. The atmosphere? Wonderfully dark and demonic. The levels? I liked their designs and the way they were laid out. You could rarely just zip through them like in Sonic or Mario. And the fact that there was a "real" ending to be had on top of some lesser ones made the game that much better.

I'm also one of the folks who loved the "Ghosts" games, and the two Gargoyle's Quest games. So Demon's Crest was like a continuation of what I was already a fan of, and I personally found it to be one of the best games on the SNES.

I agree with you. This game looks like they could easily port it to the NES, just with less colors and parallax.

Now you're just being foolish.

You could port God of War to the NES as well. Just without the 3D. And resolution. And color. And sound. But it could be done!

Demon's Crest can be ported without altering the gameplay. Everyone knows the NES pirate of Super Mario World, why do you think they cut out the underground level with the yellow floors and ceilings moving up and down? Because the NES can't handle that kind of gameplay mechanics, due to the way the PPU works. If you port God of War to the NES, all the gameplay will be changed because you went from 3D to 2D.
