Just the cart (beat to shit) is about $64 on Amazon; a CIB copy is $200+...

Demon's Crest didn't used to be that expensive. I already own it and I didn't pay that much. That's why I don't buy a Super Everdrive.
I know, I know. I just really prefer to own the cartridge. I'm an eclectic collector of all things good, crisp, and 16-bit.
I try and play all the games i have as well 1-2 times as well. there is just something about looking a line of games and going hmm what do I want to play today? Yes it does take up a lot of space but I don't mind and think it looks cool. I do use emulation to try out a lot of games before I buy them tho. I like going after games I think are fun first then go after the ones that play one time haha
I love rom carts (flash too), they're the most durable form of media.
Oh heck even from an "experience" perspective emulating something is never the same, unless you're just not very sensitive to the small changes.
For me it's more like "knowing that I have the actual card on my shelf is awesome. But knowing that I have a flash cart that I can load the same game on, get 100% the same experience, and never have to worry about it ever not working, is even more awesome". Of course playing something off of a flash cart and not having the actual copy on my shelf wouldn't make me feel complete.
I agree, emulation is an excellent tool for testing out the gameplay. However emulation as a substitute for the real thing is only great if you're broke or seriously can't tell the difference.
I don't know who you are....by my name is Drakon, and I approve of this person.
Youtube is good for a quick peek. But you don't know what the gameplay is like from a youtube video. You can use youtube to judge the "atmosphere" of a game but that's only part of the experience.
Yeah, I was surprised a few years ago to win an eBay auction for the loose cart for $11.98. Of course, the average price for the cart at that time was probably $30 - $40, not $70 like today. Still a pretty good deal, though .
