with 360 vs. PS3, it basically comes down to how good you are at economics:
you can get the 360, have it break 4 times, pay out the ass for accessories because they all require Microsoft's blessing in order to work, pay out the ass for online play, etc. etc.
OR
you can get a PS3, pay a little more upfront, and get user swappable hard disks, use any USB controller for many games, get a blu-ray player, utilize some features with the PSP, play online for free, play PS1 games, oh, and the damn thing works for more than 6 months without an epic hardware failure.
I did console repair for 9 months, I will NEVER buy an XBOX 360 unless they do substantial revisions to the hardware or I can get it for about $30 with everything I need (controller, hard drive, etc.). If you don't have one or the other at this point, you must have brain damage to buy a 360 when the PS3 now costs about the same. The one exception might be if your friends already made the terrible mistake of getting a 360 and you want to be able to play online with them. If there is one thing I absolutely cannot tolerate, it's shoddy hardware that won't even last if it's taken care of.
