Don't forget about Game Cube compatibility, I'd take the GC library over the Saturn's (especially those readily available). Of course you could go with a GC for a lot less, and they're pretty solid in terms of reliability, though only early models offer the digital out port for component video -and 480p support. (a plus for Wii is it supports component and VGA on all models) Plenty of GC titles still exclusive and without good emulation or ports. (emulation on saturn is pretty iffy, but some of the better games have been ported)

Of course the PS2 is generally a better option if you never got one, but It's a lot more lkely for someone to have passed over the GC than a PS2. (there's DC of course, which is worth getting as well -though a fair number of ports including SA1/2 on GC, Xbox as well, but not as varied of a library as GC -for some reason I favor Xbox and GC over PS2 though, I'm not sure why other than the controllers -I like the duke and the GC controllers don't care for dual shock or s-controller on x-box -some 3rd party PS2 pads are OK)

PS3 games are region free. Unfortunately, PS3 systems still recognize region lockouts for Playstation and PS2 games, as well as DVDs and Blu-ray video (there actually is a mod, at least for the games, but I'm not willing to risk my 60GB PS3 on a mod). There's dust on every single one of my systems, because I don't dust frequently. They still get used in their dusty state.

I've actually never watched a blu-ray. My PS3 has only been used for games. I own 20 PS3 games right now. My want list is pretty big, I just generally don't buy full-price games. PS3 games seem the most difficult to acquire at low prices.

This generation certainly wont go down as the best. The Wii is an absolute joke and Nintendo should be embarassed.....I walked into best buy and there are shelves covered in crap shovelware. Its is sad to see.

I owned a Wii for 2 weeks, about 1 week and 6 days longer than I needed to, and sold it.

I have a ps3 and 360 but the 360 gets more playing time because all my friends own 360s and not ps3s and I hate the dual shock controller for shooters.

Kids today will never know a heated rivalry like Sega vs Nintendo or Sega vs Nintendo vs Sony.

Sega vs. Nintendo was the only one that ever really mattered.

I like the way it's evolved to some people that Sega+Nintendo is perfect.

I hate the other way it's evolved...
Sega = a joke and a failure
Nintendo = a joke and that's what makes them still sell

and IIRC there's another one that has the joystick and d-pad position swapped to look more like an XBOX controller. Fortunately for me, I don't really bother with FPSs anymore because I played more Goldeneye and Perfect Dark than any human should ever play.

Honestly though, this generation is my second favorite, only behind the 16-bit systems. I'm playing way more now than I did with my PS2/Xbox/Gamecube, and I owned all three of those close to launch.

It all comes down to personal preference. I love how nearly every game on the 360 (and PS3) is multiplayer driven, and I fully enjoy playing games with the Wii Remote, not to mention the best current gen game being on the Wii.

In some ways I just see the PS3 as a prettier version of the PS2. Same goes for Xbox to Xbox360. I know... the same can be said for the NES to SNES. But for some reason that was different. I'll never participate in another console war (too many wounds from the great 16-bit war).

First off I can't afford a new console. I could finally afford a Ps2 this past summer. But I'm slightly let down with it and that's what keeps me from making any plunge into a newer console at full price.

DS aside, the sales of their home console are skewered because there is a large portion of people who own that who would otherwise never own another game system. Cutting out all the bowling grannies and fitness "game" people, I'd realistically place that in&around where the 360 and PS3 are.

The same 'skewered' argument holds true against the original NES and Gameboy.

I don't see it being an issue, and more-so reliant on the age old 'stupid fanboy' mentality of 'Being a true gamer'.

This generation is a disaster. Many dev houses became defunct thanks to the complexity of the development cycle. Innovation is another victim. Publishers cling on to their milked franchises like there's no tomorrow. It is my firm belief that the PS2 will be the last Great Console. I couldn't care less about 'core gaming' atm because the charts are simply outrageous.

If you're comfortable playing on a PC get a med-range one. You won't be missing out unless you crave the odd non-PC exclusive. Game bugginess on PCs is overstated. I caved in and got a 360 because DirectX10 proved to be quite a disappointment, and the way things are going I'm not expecting much from DirectX11 either.

If Nintendo didn't make a profit off of every system, they'd probably be deep in the hole from people buying it for Sports and never looking at it again. It's sad to see what people put up with when they don't know any better (meaning the droves of people that never touched a video game before the Wii and don't know how phoned in the shit they're playing is.)

Entertainment medium's were always '99% shit VS 1% great'. Bitching about your lack of faith in the industry is one thing; blaming everybody who doesn't share your cynicism as a problem is ridiculous.

I can always take comfort in that 17days will always respond to one of my posts about Nintendo :) We'll agree on something some day buddy!

As for my post, I wasn't claiming that the Wii is the best console out there. Far from it. I prefer the 360 and DS. I'm going to once again put on my future hat and predict that 17days will call me an idiot for liking a faulty system such as the 360 ;)

All I intended to do by posting the chart is to show that Nintendo is laughing itself all the way to the bank right now. Angry "hardcore" gamers can moan all day about how game shelves are littered with shovelware, and the Nintendo is an embarrassment to the industry all they want.

The truth is Nintendo should be proud of their efforts to expand their audience, and to turn around their fortunes so quickly. After all, people expected Nintendo to go the way of Sega a mere five years ago.
