dont you find the more you play new games , the more old games kinda suck ?

I have a PS3 and there are some games I've really enjoyed, like MGS4, Little Big Planet, Demon's Souls. There certainly are a lot of crappy games with little new to offer, though.

I find older games have a lot more soul, in general. I think it's because the development teams where much smaller, the industry was still new and everyone had to figure things out their own way. You have so many games being rushed out the door now, all using the same game engines and driven purely by market research. There are new gamer demographics today that didn't exist before...the kind that can relate to X-Treme sports and gamer energy drinks..bleh.

At least indie game development seems to be picking up again thanks to cheap distribution options like PSN and XBOX Live.

I'm 30 (as most of you know) and I think I was the best age growing up with these consoles, the more advanced the games got, the more I need them to be, I was 4 playing Atari, I was 7 playing NES, I was 11 playing SNES, I was 13 playing Sega CD, I was 16 playing N64, I was 17 using and playing PC games (Doom, Quake)... I think all kids at those ages should go thru the same things I did at those ages, so that they could appreciate what we have now...

Actually most of the time.. the more i play new games the more i find old games are just as good if not better in most cases... (not in every situation..)

But then again i could just be an old fool (32).. because i'm getting this way with movies and music as well...

C&C 3 and especially Kane's Wrath are a great example of why games are great when they take the old school fun, and apply new school features, without changing the old school formula at all.

Unfortunately, the games community ranted and raved about the game needing a new school formula, and patches went in the new school formula direction. (which caused the games online population to severely suffer, since it was composed of everyone who loved old school C&C)

Kane's Wrath is still great fun though, and I give props to anyone else who plays it.
Thank God it doesn't have to suffer from what C&C Red Alert 3, and C&C 4 are suffering through right this very moment.



The thing I really like about this generation is the internet. (which, as a PC gamer, has been a huge part of my gaming since about C&C 1 in 1995)
It let me see that Little Big Planet was completely not fun. Not a revitalization of 2D platforming which I love.
I was able to download the demo for free onto my PS3, and it was lengthy enough for me to tell, and get my fill.

I wish DLC and Live's Arcade style games/PSN games/Virtual Console games had the option of getting a disc shipped to you if you pay $3 extra for shipping...because I hate losing that between consoles.
I especially hate not being able to bring HD Remix to my friends house.
But the fact I don't need a working disc drive lets me buy a 360 really cheap without a working drive, and I can play all the games I want, because they're all Live Arcade games.
That's pretty cool.

Most games now suck, they aren't many gems! Most are FPS War Games (Why is that? Here's a new game about WAR, so you will want to join the Military) or Shitty thrown together movie titles that amazingly come out on ALL systems... Not many very original games.... I think the new Batman game might be the exception... Cause it's slightly an original game.. Besides the Batman... But it would be a cool game even without the Batman Nastaglia...

Actually, playing new games makes me want to play old games more. Today, after years of refusing to, I played a RockBand/Guitar Hero game (it was one or the other). After about 15 seconds of it, I stopped playing and started longing for my Atari 2600. Then I thought, "Why the hell does anyone play music games? Why not just spend the couple hundred dollars that you would normally use to buy the game and buy yourself a guitar/bass and some lessons? If you can't afford lessons, teach yourself. If you can't teach yourself, you don't deserve the couple hundred dollars." Now, DJ Hero I can understand because it's much cheaper than buying a DJ set thing, but that's the only exception.

MAME+complete .135 ROM set via bittorrent+X-Arcade Dual Stick=best discovery in the history of video games as far as I'm concerned. Arcades FTW. I also like the iPhone as the developers design them so you can play for a few minutes at a time and come back to where you were when you get a chance later.

The world is not enough (by EA) encorporated many of the added features also in PD that GI lacks. (bots in multiplayer, moer varied weapons, more complex maps) Plus the widescreen modes

Heh, with N64 and GC (which rarely used the c stick in the conventional dual analog sense), that's all we had for 3D games. (acceptablem and better than a d-pad for sure)
Of course on PC, you either had 2-axis analog control plus additional buttons/keys (joystick/single analog gamepad or keyboard+mouse or keyboard+joystick, or keyboard+joystick+mouse)
When I did get a logitech dual analog controller, I hardly ever used the second analog stick. (i'd have prefered a throttle slider personally -Xterminator rocks, too bad the USB ones are hard to come by and have been discontinued)

For me it was NES from birth until the SNS around age 6/7 (in 1995 or '96, I really should check out hom movies ;))
Then N64 christmass of '99 (10 years old)
Game cube in 04 I think (at 15)
but taking a step back to ~2001 (at 11/12) I finally got my parents to set up an old atari VCS my mom had gotten at a garage sale years earlier (and I'd also picked up circuis atari and outlaw at good will recently). I eventually had that set up in my room with my late 60s GE portacolor until the power switch broke in 2002 I think. (I still have to fix that)

Finally the Wii for chrismass of 2007 and a genesis model 1+sega CD this past spring.
The SNES and N64 still get used often (more than Wii for sure) and have been in more or less continual use since they first got set-up. (genesis gets hooked up seraticly, as does SNES and VCS, I'll probably have all 3 st up in my room once I clean it up and get a TV in there -probably not a portacolor though, I plan to fix it, but a 10" screen, rf input and low energy efficiency of vacuum tubes makes it hardly ideal -plus excessive overscan unless I can calibrate that -fine for the VCS though and neat to have around)

Really? I don't mind using one analog stick for Saturn, or N64. I definitely don't like the Playstation setup with the two though.

I'm in the process of buying Burning Rangers as I type this too, lol.

New, old, I like 'em all. Well, the good ones anyway.

But still, it's like my cars. I drive this as a daily driver and it's a great car to drive. Handles well, certainly gets out of its own way, looks okay, has all the creature comforts you would want and gets decent mileage.

One of my other cars is old, handles acceptably due to some moderate modifications but you wouldn't confuse it with a sports car, it's quick for a stocker, looks absolutely stunning but it takes a bit of effort to drive with manual steering, manual drum brakes and a manly-man stickshift that takes some real effort to move around and sometimes seems one gear short after driving the Honda. It's also a fair weather ride, not something I'd even WANT to drive in any kind or rain or snow nor would I if for no other reason than to preserve my investment. BUT, the the "old car" puts a shit-eating grin on my mug the newer stuff could never hope to. Maybe it's style, or history or nostalgia, I just enjoy it a whole lot more.

Game's from the PS1/N64 and PS2/Xbox eras seem dated now because they were the predecessors to the current systems but anything before that is like fine wine.
