Well N64 aside, all of my retro systems look pretty great on my Samsung LCD. Mind you, I only have a 32", so I don't know how well they would look on anything bigger.
Burn in is pretty much impossible unless you leave it on a static image for a week or more on any Plasma made in the last 2-3 years.Quote:

Wierdest thing, my LCD TV rolls a lot with a solid background if my Mega Drive is outputting a PAL signal - it's particularly noticeable on the first level of Flashback, for example.
I can switch it to NTSC and have no problems, but it's still bizarre.

Got a 32" Hitachi 32LD30U B HDTV for Christmas and it handles 480i and up beautifully. Handles sub HD resolutions even better than our 47" LG60000 TV in the living room. Was surprised how sharp and clean the PS2 looked on it. Burnout Revenge looks like HD! Really wows me how the PS2 can churn out that kind of graphics. Heck Composite video looks quite decent from 480i and above. Maybe it has a decent comb filter. Can't exactly say the same for 288p (240p NTSC) from the SNES, Mega Drive and PS1 games though. Looks blockly with horizontal scanlines. :|
Are there any dedicated Videogame marketed Scalers that can handle incoming 288p/240p signals? :confused:

Scanline and filtering still isn't equal to a real SD CRT display though, and putting PC video on an SDTV is no good as that involves scaling and interlacing, so less accurate in that respect than Virtual Console. (which even causes some problems on HDTVs I think, if VC games don't upscale in 480p mode -I'm pretty sure they don't as even in SD it completely changes the video mode when starting a VC game -disables anamorphic)
I personally prefer the true immage one could get via RGB (or next best YUV), though S-video is pretty close on SNES and good on Genesis. Of course, real NES/FCs output only composite from the PPU. Although ZSNES even has emulation of RF noise if you want it. ;)
Another issue is aspect ratio, having the option for square pixels is nice for games improperly programmed to the true display resoltions (or PAL games not corrected from NTSC res), but nevertheless the games won't have the same PAR as on a TV, and fusion removes the horizontal overscan boarder. (though keeps the vertical)
The sound is the bigger issue for some and ZSNES and Fusion are great there. (with various filtering options)
I still like emulatios though, but there are definitely noticeable differences. (DOSBox/VDMSound;s sound emulation is off as well, but more importantly it's much clearer than real SB cards, and many later SB compatibles, so that's a plus)
Too bad ZSNES takes a long time to boot in 32-bit Vista, even worse for Nestopia. (almost unusable as it lags when you use any menue otopns in the window)
And SNES 9x has pooer sound emulation than ZSNES (very noticable in star fox) although there's also weird poping noises (like cut-off) in vista I didn't notice in XP. (and the bug where the desktop resolution gets reset if you close it while in fullscreen.
Edit: The popping is only present when sync audio is enabled on 9x, however, I just noticed the old 1.41 version has the correct sound in Star Fox while 1.51 disn't. (correct like real hardware and ZSNES, particularly the sound of the lasers firing and laser hitting stone/buildings) The speed is all wrong in the old 9x though, way faster than Star Fox should be, practially unplayable. (it's meant to peak at 15 FPS)
