I heard this was supposed to be for Dreamcast but that version was cancelled and this was ported to XBOX instead. Anyways, I have it. The first few stages so far have been slightly bland and repetitive. Anyone else played it?

Bad ass game. A lot of people bitched about the controls, but I liked them. One of the first Xbox games I bought.. back in '02 (or '03?) and it was awesome!
I've gotten used to the controls. While the first few stages have been somewhat barren, I'm hoping the pace will pick up, as I am starting to like the use of the tractor beam and the jetpack. I'm still trying to give it a chance.
I beat the first couple of levels then quit. I thought it was pretty bland.
Gunvalkyrie requires a ton of patience due to the high learning curve of the controls, my advice is just stick it out and continue to play it.
Once you get the controls down you'll be chaining 200+ hit combos and boosting like crazy through the air without touching the ground like nothing. When you get to the latter stages it really begins to sink in how much sense the control scheme makes.
Oh and the game also has one of the best last bosses you'll ever fight in a video game.
I loved the game myself. Very underrated.
One of my favorite Xbox games.
It just gets better and better.
There's a reason the first few levels are so bland.
Once you finish, it's good to then replay the game and get all the S ranks, since you'll have access to your full power.
Great game.
The only game I regret isn't on the 360 compatibility list.
Otherwise I could have sold my Xbox 1 for a 360.
For now I'll just keep the Xbox and call it a day.
IMHO this game is part of the proof that Xbox is the Dreamcast 2.
Panzer Dragoon Orta, Otogi 1 & 2, Crazy Taxi 3, Shenmue 2, and more.
GC got Super Monkey Ball and Sonic, PS2 got Shinobi (and Altered Beast I guess, but not here) that's it. (feel free to expand my limited list if I missed out)
I think it would've been better as a Dreamcast game, but it's still good.
I bought the game when I had an Xbox but the seller never sent it and I ended up being out 8 bucks or however much I paid for it. Looks interesting though, doubt I'll ever play it though as I got rid of my Xbox a long time ago and don't really have any plans of buying another.
Well, the Otogi games (which are indeed good) were developed by From Software (who did the Armored Core series) but published by SEGA, though I'm not sure how much input SEGA had in the actual production or direction of the game itself.
And people seem to forget that XBOX also had Super Monkey Ball Deluxe which is like an enchanced version of the GC original with some extras. :thumb:
Anyways, yeah, I think I can get in to GV, so I'll keep playing as it is gradually getting better.
Super Monkey Ball Deluxe sucked, that's why people forget about it.
There was no "Dreamcast 2", Sega split themselves pretty cleanly, they just seemed to favor the Xbox a bit early on. But remember that at that point, Sega's developers were independent subsidiaries, who each made their own individual decisions as to what platforms to release their games on. Xbox was the easiest platform to work with. When the Sammy merger occurred, the developers were folded back into the main company, and they exerted more corporate control.
I think the Xbox is kind of like a Dreamcast 2. So many of my favorite games are quirky originals, like with the DC.
Xyanide(shmup), Kingdom Under Fire(epic strategic warfare), Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath(one of a kind FPS), Jet Set Radio Future(needs no introduction), etc.
No kidding, they really messed up the controls.Quote:

Well.. Panzer Dragoon Orta, Jet Set Radio Future, Shenmue 2, SEGA GT, Crazy Taxi High Roller, Toe Jam & Earl III and Gunvalkyrie were the games that sold me on moving to a next gen console after Sony destroyed my beloved Dreamcast.
