Oh.... My... God... This is the last time I buy anything from Square-Enix especially since Chrono Trigger was the first RPG I ever played.

Square Enix being a dick as usual. Since they can't put out good games and choose re-release and re-hash the same shitty garbage that they usually do, they won't let anyone else make anything with their characters.

Fuck, they're the shittiest company with the most fanboy-ish games in the history of video games. They need to pull their act together...

This already happened with that other Chrono Trigger fangame. If they were going to release it they should've kept it on the dl instead of releasing a trailer onto Youtube before it was completed.

You mean the 3D conversion back in '04? Yeah I heard about that one too

About keeping it on the dl... they took a look at the hit list for the hack's website... it would seem that at several times people using square's network actually visited it... youtube wouldn't of mattered at that point.

On a side note I watched several of the videos they had up on youtube and it would almost seem that Square just got jealous...

True, but there's a ton of other hacks and fangames out there that no other company gives a shit about because no one's making money on it. Square is the only one that does shit like this, they did it with that 3D Chrono Trigger as well.

There's like 6 million different hacks of Sonic the Hedgehog, but I don't see Sega throwing out Cease and Decist orders.

I always hated Square for their shitty policies and for the way they portray a male. A male to them is a chick without boobs, which immediatly turns me off to actually completing a game. And their games get way to much credit for what they are. I mean they aren't bad games, but they aren't "THAT" good.

And Square should be actually honored someone gave a crap enough to make a fangame. Konami doesn't spit in the faces of their fans, and they actually have a series that deserves the accolades it gets coughMetal Gearcough. I don't see what's so great about androgynous(sic) guys wearing too many freakin belts and angsting about how life is so unfair and unknowable, and they're riding a 6-foot chicken and slashing cactus monsters.

And since when does this teach people how to subvert software? For that matter, what is one fangame going to do to them? Cost them one extra after dinner mint? Why even bother to sue?

To my knowledge (which isn't all that much) Derivative works, so long as they are not for profit, are completely legal.

I wonder this myself... more importantly this is not the only Japan based gaming company that has done something like that *looks at the Shadow the Hedgehog and Sonic the Hedgehog(2006)* could it be that the Japanese like it?

Square-Enix is experiencing what I like to call "Near-end-of-life" Syndrome, symptoms are extreme paranoia, unexpressed jealousley, overprotectiveness, and lack of quality. Quite frankly, the only people keeping it alive are the Japanese and the several fanboys and girls here in the U.S. and Europe. They're scared because they can sense their fall, yet they remain in denial, and keep releasing these POS games. Expect Square-Enix to be a fleeting memory in a few years... expect a lot of game companies to be gone in a few years...

After the merger, they destroyed the glory days of the old Final Fantasy. Now, they're doing nothing but FF spinoffs (with a little Kingdom Hearts in the mix and a few other games). If the fans can't do it, then how about you actually pay attention to your franchise that making a new game could bring in more cash than any FF spinoff could.

Chrono Trigger is the best JRPG ever made (IMO). Bring the series back.

And this is why I keep saying to not say a damn thing about a project until it's completely finished. Simply shut up, work on it, finish it, release it, and by the time any company could throw a C&D at it, it'll already be everywhere.

But noooooooo... gotta make a website. Gotta make a trailer. Gotta go to other sites and pimp it. You'd think these groups would learn by now :roll:

Do you realize how many beta testers they needed to bring it to 98%? Unfortunately, the publicity is a necessary evil.

If they really wanted this thing to be done, they'd all agree to keep quiet about it until release. I'm talking about not even bringing it up in slightest, and being careful with what you reveal to potential assistants. Secrecy isn't that hard a thing to stick with... especially when that secrecy could mean the difference between a finished project, and a C&D after years of work.
