I'm pretty late to this party, but I just bought a PS2, and I'd like to know what the "must have" games are.
I've done a little digging, but there are just so many games for that system, that I don't know if I can read up on all of them in this lifetime. :)
Try the Metal Gears 2 and 3. Metal Gear 2 was a launch title if i remember..Gamestop use to sell them used for 4.00
Lessee, this is what I would mention from my collection as must-haves:
- Burnout 2 & 3
- Devil May Cry 1 & 3 (Special Edition)
- Final Fantasy X & XII
- ICO
- Katamari Damacy
- Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence
- Resident Evil 4 (if you don't already have it on the GC or Wii)
- Rez (if you can find it... or just go for Rez HD if you have an Xbox 360)
- Shadow of the Colossus
- Twisted Metal Black
What types of games do you like? If you like action games then you might want to try:
Jak and Daxter 1-3
Rachet and Clank (going commando, up your arsenal)
God of War 1 & 2
Can you be more specific? Do you like JRPGs? Driving games? TPS? FPS?

I've had may PS2 since forever and I have around 75 games. Even at that, the guide mentioned above made me aware of at least half a dozen games I'd never heard of which are great games (which I now have).
Absolute must haves include:
-Ico
-Shadow of the Colossus
-Drakkan
-At least one Gran Turismo game (I prefer GT3 A-Spec)
-At least one Metal Gear Solid game
-Silent Hill 2 or 3

I like JRPGs, shooters and action games. I have heard a lot of good things about Ratchet & Clank, so I expect I'll definitely be picking that one up.

Shut up :lol: Yes the reviews are all over the board for them, but I enjoyed them. Beautiful music, very nice graphics, retro gameplay in terms of button mashing simplicity, and not a half bad story. It just just doesn't have much depth (though the 2nd and 3rd games do give you more to do and find than the 1st), and the 3D camera likes to fight you at times (like pretty much every other 3D game that's not a fighter). And if you can find it...
Altered Beast (3D Beat 'em Up) (PAL)
This game it strictly cheese from start to finish. Resident Evil level dialogue, gore everywhere... yet it also has rather nice monster designs at times, and it's a fun mindless "beat the shit out of everything" game. The graphics don't push the PS2, but they are on par with the 3D Castlevanias (characters look better than the backgrounds, but the stages in AB do look a bit nicer than the ones in the 3D Castlevania games). Finding the PAL version's a pain though. Be sure to check the UK version of eBay (make sure the seller ships to you country though).

One more question: Can I use my old Playstation memory card on the PS2 or do I have to get different cards?

Gran Turismo 4 (yeah, I like driving games... and it's the only HD game on the system)

You can use your old cards only for saving PS1 games. You should be able to get a couple of used 8meg official memory cards for cheap.. They do fill up fast too.Quote:
