I got Sonic (And other games) on my phone!

GameBoy/GBC:
I use MeBoy for GB emulation (http://arktos.se/meboy/). Follow the directions given and use http://pcs.cruz-network.net to upload.
The only games I've played on MeBoy are the Pokemon games, assuming that they were just best for Cellphone. Now all that's needed is a link feature to trade and battle Pokemon.

Follow the directions there and use the same site I use. It should be Javagear ME, FYI.
I loaded the Sonic games (except the Drift series and Labyrinth), Ninja Gaiden, and Megaman. They're playable, but running at like 4 or 5 FPS on my SGH-A767 (gonna get an Erricson next upgrade).

Looking at the benchmarks for the emulators on my phone, I think I can just forget about Doom ME (not Doom RPG), knowing that a J2ME Doom port would make my phone explode.

This is really awesome, but posting links to emulators (I think) is ok on this site. But posting links to roms is a "no no" on this site.

Posting rom locations is a no-no

It's the only Game Gear emu site for phones, but if I happen to find out where the original emulator is I'll replace the link.

Emulators were used to preserve games, not to be an output for freeloaders who don't want to pay shit for the games. You fucking asshole.

Anyone that hates on emulators for systems older than 5~10 years past commercial availability (i.e. DC and older) only does it because:

A) they're scared of emulators/don't want to spend the time to figure them out

B) feel they need to talk down on them to avoid copyright infringement surveillance, as if they care about your ROMs from 1992 when the dude next door is playing a bootleg of Modern Combat 2 on his 360.

C) have a misplaced hatred because they feel ROMs de-value their games, which is a load because most people that pay top dollar for games know damn well where to get ROMs, NWC 1990 isn't worth any less because there is a ROM dump of it

Yes. I highly doubt that many of these GameGear games I linked to are supported by SEGA anymore, but I took the links down to stay within the law of the land. I'll have to find the original emulator and put it up here.

The way I see it, emulating Genesis and SNES games is really no different than buying them on eBay, but people still whine about people using emulators being freeloaders and not supporting the company when they're not supporting Nintendo or Sega buying Sonic and Zelda games on eBay or at Salvation Army for their SNES and Genesis. Stealing Assassin's Creed from Wal-Mart or downloading an ISO of Modern Warfare 2 is a different story, and is definitely illegal. Besides the point, I do buy stuff; I bought a Sega Saturn, 2 controllers, and several games as opposed to downloading off some shady Russian site. I did buy Genesis games and like four Gennys.

Also, I've heard someone say abandonware is illegal. Just...wow. The company's either disbanded or don't give a fuck about the game anymore, it's not like they're gonna send the FBI over to your place just because you download System Shock 2 or Zero Tolerance (both are actually abandonware now) off RapidShare.

So: Emulation and eBay are both OK, Stealing and bootlegging are not, and people who both whine about emulation and use eBay are hypocrites.

Since I started using an emulator a couple of years ago [console classix], I've bought more games than ever. It's nice to try the games, then buy the ones I like.

Exactly. Master System emulation is what drove me to buy a Master System. GameGear emulation is what makes me want a GameGear more badly than I ever did in my childhood. Downloading the Doom series off some site makes me want to buy the Doom Collector's edition....ah you get my point, emulation is not just for freeloaders.

Honestly, I'm so sick of this debate. Especially on this occasion, where it's just ridiculous; teh particular romz in question are GG games (monetarily worthless to everyone, especially Sega, and unplayable on 95% of original hardware) and GB games (where 95% of games aren't worth playing anyway :p)

It's not that it's a sensitive issue and there are a bunch of anti-rom people on here. I love emulators and roms'nsuch, it's just that Melf doesn't want to get in trouble (I think) so he doesn't allow links to roms, emulators are ok though (for some reason).

Same here, and 100% of the time, I enjoy playing games on real hardware much more. I have complete romsets for NES, SNES, Genesis and TG-16, a lot of the time, I'll try a game I'm interested in on an emulator. After that, if I really want said game, I'll buy it, knowing that I will enjoy it so much more on the actual console. I don't see the point of playing SNES Doom if you can play the DOS version, especially with all the new ports out there. The framerate for SNES Doom is atrocious, it makes it almost unplayable. I really liked playing Doom Legacy for single player, and Zdaemon has fantastic multiplayer support. Let me know if you're ever up for a game.

I use Skulltag, so that's another EXE you'll have to download :P.

LOL Yeah. SNES Doom is pointless. At least 32X Doom has good framerate and floor/ceiling textures. And a level selection feature.

I'm pretty sure I've tried Skulltag before, and I'm telling you, Zdaemon is better. You should give it a try. If not, I'll get Skulltag.

It all boils down to what you're interested in, on whether to choose ZDaemon or Skulltag. If you want multiplayer on steroids - new power-ups, weapons, and game modes - Skulltag is for you. If you just want to play old-school Co-op or deathmatch, ZDaemon is a good choice. I'll probably use both ZDaemon and Skulltag as my ports for multiplayer for more people to play against.

I'm down for both, I'm more familiar with zdaemon, I haven't played it in ages. From what I remember, there are sometime graphical issues with it on my laptop. I played skulltag only briefly, and I don't think there were many games going on. Anyway, we should play.

that website is best for school/work computers that might forbid downloads but do have flash, or just the odd occasion where you're at a friend/relative's house and don't want to spend all the time of downloading an emulator and roms. The DOS games are also nice as even alot of DOS frontends aren't that quick and easy to use (though Boxer for Mac OS X fucking ROCKS).

Emulators aren't illegal, plain and simple. Linking to emulators is no different than linking to a Linux download or a free calculator app. It's just emulating the processes of another computer, it's only illegal if you use copyrighted BIOS files.
