most accurate/best NES emulator besides Nestopia

Dude who cares what it's called. NESticle was the first mainstream emulator of all time and the best performing NES emulator of it's day by a LONG shot!

In 1997 is was so advanced I didn't even believe someone when they told me about it. He came it to class and told me that people plug NES ROM chips into these readers to make a computer file and this NESticle program can emulate all the hardware inside an NES allowing you to play almost every NES game on you PC!!! I honestly thought the kid was the biggest liar around! Seriously I thought he was so full of shit! But back in 1997 it was like unheard of! It goes up in my books just for that!

I like using VirtuaNES a lot myself, actually. Easy enough to use and has enough features that I want.

I booted up Nesticle for the first time in ages because of this thread, and I have to say that it hasn't aged well. The sound emulaton is a little off and a good number of games either don't work or are glitched.

Some of my games will only work in NESticle, like the Tengen version of Tetris, or Tetris II. (maybe bad dumps though, and NESticle is more tolerant)
Does it run in a DOS shell?

nesticle was nice but i used genecyst more to play strider and punisher
and callus to play strider and punisher

LOL I forgot all about Genecyst! I think I used it a few times. But... I bet my AMD 80MHZ 80486 couldn't handle the Blast Processing. No seriously it probably couldn't!

must be REALLY bad dumps because Nestopia boots it up just fine. Nestopia is by far the best emulator out there, but it only works once and then if I log out on the school computers and come back, it won't start up and it bogs the computer until I log out again, I have no idea why. The Mac port works like a beast, I love it.

This and JNES. I like them both, with VirtualNES being first. jNES is good for quick plays, VirtualNES for the color settings. I almost always use RGB for things like Pac Mania because it makes everything not washed out looking.

People, for the love of god or whatever, stop fucking using Nesticle. Yes, BITD it was great. But at the same it's also responsible for many bad hacks/translations/dumps. The emulator itself a LUT of game hacks. For those of you that don't understand what game specific hack means = it's bad. No good. In accurate. And it's not future proof, be it new dev, hacks, or translations. Bad, bad, bad. Also, Nesticle has some of the worse NES audio emulation out there (besides my own nes audio emulation code >_> ). Stop. Just stop.

Heh wow it's that bad eh? Truth is I haven't really used NES emulation seriously in so long that it never mattered. I mean I think I downloaded Nestopia a year ago but probably only used it a few times since then. The only emulator I really have used a lot in the past few years is Kega Fusion. Not sure why... just is!

FCE Ultra and Mednafen are the best nes emulators I've ever used.
Nesticle is pretty bad. It was cool back then, but it's aged horribly.

Ehm.. I'm pretty sure 99% of the people here were just joking about Nesticle,
I mean fuck I don't think it even runs in XP or Windows 7 anymore without tinkering with it.

And the only reason I mentioned Nesticle myself is because it was the first one i used in.. 1997?
These days its either MednafenNes on Xbox or the real thing with the PowerPak flashcart for me.

I am running the 32-bit version of Win7. As far as I remember, Nestopia worked fine for me in vista as well, same goes for ZSNES.

Oh, it works alright, just behaves weird while open and makes everything else chug while it's going. (worse than ZSNES, or BSNES which only take a while to open, SNES 9x works fine, so I'm not sure what it is that does that)
Bascily everthing freezes whale it's loading up (same for the others I mentioned though), but also causes a similar problem whenever I try to move or modify the window.

Is jNES still any good?
