Haiti Donations Thread (serious)

You've all seen it, by now, so I'll spare the bullshit. These people need help.

I've donated my usual Friday night 'going out' fund, and will lug the change jar out of the cupboard tomorrow and cash it in. Most of these donation links take all kinds of currency, ALL are totally legit, and WILL go towards putting things right.

This is a good thread. I wish I was employed, but hopefully I can scrounge up some funds from somewhere and get a little donatin' on.

They did a recall at work today, to see if any USAF members are in Haiti... USAF-wide, not just my base.

A very worthy thread for the disaster.

CLINTON AND BUSH! Both of the Bushes AND Clinton had a foot on the country’s neck during their presidential terms, supporting the coup against Haiti’s first democratically elected president, Jean-Betrand Aristede. They wanted the man out, because his agenda for his country didn’t match up with US interests. IMO, Clinton and Bush have no great humanitarian interest in seeing Haiti rebuild…but they DO have the power to call shots regarding what gets done, who does it, how it will be done, etc., because they have their hands on the funds!

Without knowing anything about Haiti's history: It is very true that money for humanitarian help can and probably will be used to gain influence, but at the same time I am pretty sure that both Bush and Clinton also do have a humanitarian interest in helping these people.

This whole thing is just retarded like 99% of rescue/aid things. Haiti has been blasted with hurricane after hurricane, is apparently on a major earthquake causing fault THAT IS VISIBLE FROM OUTER SPACE ( http://abcnews.go.com/Technology/Hai...ory?id=9593349 ), and is the poorest country in its region of the world. How about we start a fund to get the people the fuck out of there to somewhere that isn't trying to collapse in on itself? All of these aid funds do is keep the people alive so another disaster can come and kill them or put them right back where they were, they accomplish nothing. When there is a fund to get the people the fuck out of Haiti and give them jobs so they can sustain themselves, then I'll donate.

Assuming our donation even gets utilized in a proper channel and isn't just shoved into the pocket of a government official. I don't trust most of these relief funds, such an easy thing to scam from. Besides, Obama already spent a good chunk of my earnings on it, something to the tune of 100 million (probably more than the total wealth of the country). I hope at least that chunk of change will make its way through the proper channels.

I don't believe in feel-good donations that affect nothing. If I'm gonna contribute, I'm going to be damn sure it's going to make a real difference.

i think that this is the most deplorable, selfish thing i have ever read on these here forums.

while people are dying out there - people being buried in mass graves because they are unable to identify the dead - people are being 'vanished' from existence, their lives snuffed out for the sake of living in the wrong place at the worst possible time. this is beyond politics, this is human misery at its utter bottom.

I think Clinton is genuinely interested in helping people around the world. Bush... I think is more debatable lol.

You'd imagine that donating a few bucks to help people struck by an earthquake wouldn't be such a big deal...

If i had another source of income other than just my college allowance, i likely would have donated around £40.

But still, tragic, tragic, tragic on what happened in Haiti...

I'm really strapped atm with my vehicle crapping out on me and needing repair, but my next couple paychecks should be decent enough that I can donate a little each time.

you think if you donate $10 your going to change something ? that money is going in someone pocket not helping people , this donation crap is a big scam just like the H1N1 , if you want really help find a Haitian family here give them money and make them send it western union to their family in Haiti

No doubt there are con artists working scams right now, but the easy answer to avoiding all of that is to donate directly to an organization with a long, proven track record and low administrative overhead. In my case, I chose Doctors Without Borders.

I think I'll probably donate some shoes to a charity in Washington that's sending the people of Haiti shoes.

It might sound silly, but you'd be surprised how many people in poverty need actually need shoes, and how helpful they actually are.

Relocating 9 million plus people is a logistical nightmare. Even if the funding and manpower somehow became available, people don't like to be told what to do from outsiders, especially "move out of your homeland because its dangerously located on a fault line." Its no secret that Haitians are not fond of the US, but children are suffering which is why I donated. A simple text and confirmation to 90999 donates $10.00 to the Red Cross. That's just one of many ways to donate.
